Exarch Report 20: We Continue

Planet Murrex
Khor-Vala System
44 ABY - Prior to the Events of Great Jedi War - Animus

In the mess hall of the *Aethersong, Marick sat among a prepared set of meals from Oodles of Noodles, which had also special order created some wraps of meat from a skewer into a bread-like called a pita. Tinfoil wrapped around it to hold it tight as the Envoys from the mission gathered around.*

“It seems that there is much to unpack about the Khor-Vala system. This planet is actually not formally part of the star system, but has been cited as being largely responsible for why transport in and out of the system has been impossible for nearly thirty years,” the Exarch explained while the Envoys ate.

Marick recalled the rescue of the Envoys after their first entry into the system that had been lost to time and space. Evelyn had been in recovery, but as the rest of the Envoys from that fateful mission shared a meal that, when looking back, was a representation of everything Marick had been working towards with the Corps. Alethia had been less convinced when reading over his reports, but both former Councilors knew that the Brotherhood was changing and the Envoys were a large part of it.

There was still work to be done.

ec-report

Welcome to another Exarch Report. I've been writing this for what seems like months, so this will blend the usual metrics with some updates to RP competitions, the Envoy Corps wiki, and incorporate the newest NPC members. So, for those that don't care about the fictional side to the RP Society, feel free to skip ahead.

The Story Continues

Arx Minor
Envoy Corps Headquarters
Memorial Wall

In the lobby of the Envoy Corps headquarters on Arx Minor was a moonstone wall attended to by dedicated maintenance droids that bore the names of all fallen Envoys. While there was still plenty of space to fill, it was notable that an entire section had already been filled.

Many lives had been lost in the attempts to enter the Khor-Vala system. And with the Collective finally no longer nipping at his heels, the Exarch's focus was returned fully to attempting to bridge an alliance with the new system...and to exact revenge against their alleged mutual enemy for taking the lives of so many of his people.

The Exarch's fingers ran across the letters. He was no stranger to sending soldiers to die. He just hoped that after all these years, he was managing to spend their lives well.

"We continue," Marick murmured as he turned and left the memorial behind, footfalls echoing as he made his way towards the Aetherson.

Aethersong
Adventure-class Exploration Cruiser
Arx Minor

Everyone had gathered following the ceremony for Envoy Treen. The Runner, one of their own, had given her life to protect her team. Her loss hung heavy on the shoulders of the gathered Envoys. Yet even in the face of despair, her defiance rekindled the hope and optimism of what the Envoy Corps mission continued to be.

Which likely explained all the "new" faces the Exarch was greeted by.

Penna Maddox towered over the Hapan, but smiled through the crows feet at her knowing eyes. "She's a fine vessel, sir. We have enough space, provisions, armory, and medical facilities to run a tight operation. Usually we get a closet with some training swords, but you really went all out for this."

Marick offered a faint smile. Maddox had helped train Inquisitors under Director Ohnaka, who had graciously offered her to Marick as a gesture of good will between the Inquisitorius and Envoy Corps. Her patience and experience was already helping take some of the weight off Charon's duty so he could better focus on the management of the Flitz locations and their diplomatic efforts. Especially now.

The Concierge was not present, but Marick was not concerned. Steve Jerryson, Captain of Vax squadron, stood off to the side chatting with a few other pilots. Mousa was off on their own, as usual, but was working on establishing relations with Kyo, the Givin astrogator that had led them to Khor-Vala in the first place.

Marick knew the names and dossiers of the others that had gathered. He had committed each of their files to memory, of course, but seeing them in person was important to, and letting himself be seen.

'Six was talking quietly with a white-furred Lurmen named Tae. Next to them was Runner Tamsin, whose heavily freckled features carried a mischievous glint as they elbowed the Field Medic next to her. Nynaeve al’Meara pulled at her long braid, obviously a bit nervous because Tamsin was known for preferring droids over organics. Xuho Zo, the Kel Dor seemed to be studying the Exarch alongside the Trandoshan, Lawgriffari Grif and Johu Troos, a Duros.

For the former Voice that had been largely responsible for phasing out the Undesirables purge, it was empowering to see such diversity among the Envoy Ranks as the Brotherhood matured past its darker origins.

The Envoy that stood out the most, of course, was Meldrass. The Gen-Dai were not a species Marick had encountered often, but from reading her reports, he was glad that she seemed committed to the Envoy Corps. She waved a hand at the Exarch, towering over the Hapan just as the Epicanthix wizened leader of the Runners did.

"So." Penna asked patiently, folding her arms behind her back at a seasoned and practiced parade rest. When do we get back at those bastards that sealed off that system and killed our comrades?"

The gathered Envoys all saluted, ready and willing to continue the mission.

You can follow along with the Khor-Vala system storyline on the Envoy Corps: Mission Log page under "Recurring Storylines".

TL;DR

  • A memorial was held for Treen, who fell during the initial mission into the Khor-Vala system.
  • After reflecting on the mission and the debut of the Aetherson, the new Envoy Corps Flagship, Marick meets up with the new additions to the Envoy Corps ranks.
  • A brief introduction to the existing and new characters all made by member-submitted entries.

New NPCs Who Dis?

So, that's a lot of new names to take in all at once. I wanted to again thank everyone that put effort into the Create an NPC competition I ran. Props to Corinna for designing Penna Madox, who is now the new head Runner aboard the Aethersong. Also thank you to Techie, TR, Niko, Raeken, Koda, Blackhawk, Kalen, and Eeno for their entries!

I hope that these characters will have more meaning when they show up in future RPs or story events. Part of that means I need help from all of you to use and interact with them. They were created communally so don't be shy.

New Ship Who Dis?

You'll also probably notice I've mentioned a certain ship a bunch of times. That's right, after Wally totally didn't intentionally losing the Urbane in the last Envoy Mission, our benevolent Regent was able to hook us up with a custom new ship that I'm really excited for.

Meet the Aethersong!

This vessel features an Envoy Guild hall, cantina/lounge, training facilities, research labs and diplomatic offices. It is also capable of carrying any necessary vehicles that would be required for an Envoy Corps mission deployment. Advanced automation has reduced the necessary crew to minimal levels. Hyperdrive capable, this vessel has average maneuverability and great speed, with light armor and shielding.

spaceship

My hope is to expand on the Aethersong as a "living" mobile base for the Envoy Corps, meaning I want input from all of you, the members, with helping building and developing it. So, if you like worldbuilding and/or space ship design, just drop me a DM (@w4lly) or email ([Log in to view e-mail addresses]). This project is open to anyone interested!

Wiki Updates

Speaking of Wiki work, thanks to some awesome new updates from Bograt (who I have to share with Jenni) we now have the ability to utilize tabs on the Wiki. This lets you create paginated (side by side) views to cut down on long-scrolls of information. It makes the Wiki behave more like a modern website, and I hope what we've done here helps with all the information we keep on the Wiki.

Envoy Corps Page Updates

tabs

The biggest change is that the Envoy Corps page now has tabs instead of ToC/long scroll. Arch said he might still be able to get the ToC to work, but for now I think this works much better. You can now find the Personnel, Mission Log, Trophy and Rank Progress, and Leaderboard at the top of the page in the paginated tabs!

If you scroll down a bit, you'll see also used tabber to sort the Envoy Corps assets into tabs.

Let me know what you guys think! Open to feedback on if this is cool, readable, or did I make it harder to read and find information?!

Roleplaying Handbook Updates

I've also made some updates to the Roleplaying Handbook page.

rp

You'll see now that there are tabs for: Roleplaying Policy, Creating an RP, Ruleset and Systems, and Exarch Resources. If you have any questions about how to RP, how to create them, how to run them, what tools can you use to help, it's all found in the Roleplaying Handbook.

I've also added a template that can be used for Team RP Competition Grading.

Solo RP Competition Grading

This came up after talking with Azler and a few others who asked me about how to grade an RP competition where a whole unit was taking part. Kind of similar to how Run Ons used to be, I figured it would be helpful to have a template competition organizers could use to easily and fairly score these events. You do not have to use this for a competition or RP you want to run, it's just something I designed to try and help with the logistics and to make it easier for you.

You can find the Solo RP Grading Rubric here on the Roleplaying Handbook wiki.

I've also broken this out into two possible types of RPs with different rules guiding their desired activity type to appeal to a broader swathe of members.

Limited Post RP Type

This was a popular format used during the GJW that allowed for people who have trouble keeping up in RPs to be able to not stress too much and post quicker thanks to the short word cap per post.

Here is an example of shorter posts (capped at 30 words), but still a driven narrative, which feedback showed made it easier to keep up with what was going on.

example

With a low barrier of entry (100 words are all that's needed to qualify/place...which, consequentially are all you need for an Envoy Mark wink) and shorter posts, it makes it very easy to get writers who might not be as comfortable able to write and post better.

Thank you to Wun for helping me beta test this format out, but I believe it gives us another instance of being able to use RPs as a competition type beyond the Small Team format we use in Vendettas or Bounty competitions.

Standard RP Type

This is the more conventional "Unit Run-On" format that was used in the past prior to the move to RP/Discord platform usage.

You can use the same rubric I shared above for Solo RP Grading Rubric here on the [Roleplaying Handbook wiki.]

I also made a Google Doc Template you can use to Copy/Paste Markdown into the Competition Admin.

Projects

Right now, the main project I have is my proposal for Voice Based RP in the Brotherhood. If you're interested in this, or what I've been doing to those efforts, please feel free to reach to me however you're comfortable doing so.

I am also looking into possibly scaling Golden Envoy Marks to award more frequently to encourage more members to DM and run RPs (thanks unpaid intern Teebu for the data crunch).

Helpful Resources

You can find everything you need in Roleplaying Handbook Wiki. This page hosts links to Exarch Resources such as maps, rulesets, system types, and information about Role Playing activities the Brotherhood.

Some useful pages to bookmark:

Don't forget, if you want to see a list of running RPs that have been advertised, there are two ways to do that.

  1. In the #rp-lobby type /rp list
  2. On the main DB page, you can see them here in one of the cards

Closing

Thanks for sticking it through the long report, hopefully. I will be posting these more frequently, there was just a lot going on with the War and other changes to the DB that came up since my last one. Appreciate all of you.

Please smash that like/subscribe button comment below if you liked this report or want to see anything different in the future.

MarickSignature

Arcona members being in the top envoy? Pff... didn't see that coming

I would like to see a Marick image with a big goofy smile and an empty cup of kaf.

Atty is weird and breaks my metrics, not my fault.
