Herald Supplemental - May 4th Edition

header

Greetings all,

As you may know, this is a special year for our club. Indeed, we are celebrating our 30th anniversary of existence which is no small feat in the wild space that is the internet. We kicked off the year with a fresh new logo, one to open up a new chapter and, as one can hope, another 30 years of our crazy experiment. Today, I am happy to release a new batch of accessories available now starting at the rank of Journeyman 1, accessories tied both to the 30th Anniversary and to the recent release of Nightsisters content. I want to take a moment to thank Alaisy, Rhylance, and Syrena for stepping up and pitching in to make this a reality. The DB is lucky to have artists such as you.

As the Grand Master mentioned in his own report, this is but one project currently in motion. There is more to come from the Herald’s office concerning the celebration of our 30th anniversary, which you can look forward to in the coming months and through the rest of the year.

This isn’t a regular report and so I’m foregoing the usual showcases and member spotlights, but I’m going to use this opportunity to open up a magistrate slot for application. The rest will return in a future report, which I’m looking forward to writing.

May the 4th be with you all.

Staff Reshuffle

I wish to take a moment to thank Aylin, Sivall and Aphotis(Alaisy) for their work as part of the Herald’s staff. The functionality of the Herald’s office relies heavily on its staff for productivity and it is needless to say that these three played an instrumental role in keeping the day-to-day of the office running, each in their own way. I truly and greatly appreciate the support you three offered me during your tenures. An extra THANK YOU to Alaisy for stepping in during my prolonged absence last fall and for offering support and counsel through what has been a rather trying six months IRL. It cannot be overstated just how invaluable your help has been.

With their departures, we’ve seen Syrena, Cassandra(Teebs!), and Vailhanz(Bruno) join our staff as magistrates, and the ever-talented Vyr moved up to the position of Praetor. To allow me to focus on a pair of larger upcoming projects, Vyr has agreed to oversee the day to day of member requests, a help that is not only needed but greatly appreciated.

This does leave us with one open slot and thus an opportunity to add a new member to this outstanding team of artists. Read below for more on the matter.

Magistrate Open for Application

As mentioned earlier, I will now be accepting applications for the position of Magistrate to the Herald. Below you will find information concerning expectations for the role as well as the due date and key points you should include in your applications.

We have many budding and experienced artists in this club. I would love to see some of you take a crack at Herald-based art. There's something truly gratifying about creating artwork for your fellow members and our new team-based approach is an opportunity to collaborate directly with fellow artists and even learn from them.

Expectations for Magistrate

The person who is selected for the position of Magistrate must have access to and possess a basic understanding of graphic design software. They will be trained and expected to handle Warbanner requests as well as participate in the creation of other dossier images. They will work as part of a team and collaborate with their fellow staff members on membership requests as well as other projects dictated by the Herald. This may include doing sketches, laying down flat colors, and more.

This is a learning position. You do not need exceptional skills, you simply need a rudimentary understanding of art, access to suitable software (free options included), and the willingness to collaborate with and learn from your fellow staff members.

Deadline and How to Apply

You have until midnight (site time) on May 18th to send your applications to my personal DB email.

Your application should include the following points:

  • Why you are interested in the position
  • Name of graphics/art software of preference
  • Past DB experience/roles applicable to the desired position
  • Any applicable ideas or specific interests
  • Portfolio containing examples of your work Thank you for your interest! I look forward to reading your applications.

One thing that I need to get off my back. Please don't take the art made for granted and be nice to these artists. I hope some take appreciation in a website not completely covered in AI slop. (AI is not art, it can never be)

The Herald office is a nice place where you can learn a lot, even if you're an absolute beginner it's absolutely worth applying to.

Incredible work.

You are 100% correct, Alaisy. We are lucky to have devoted artists willing to produce free, high quality art for this club. There is no denying that. An AI-drenched website would be a sad thing to witness.

Great stuff!

My teefs! Lol

100% agreed with Alaisy and Bale and I'm really appreciative of the high quality artwork made by real, human people. I'm seeing a lot of the internet go towards AI slop nowadays and I'm very glad the DB isn't going that direction with its official artwork.

Thanks for all the work you do.

Absolutely love all this! Thanks to ALL members of the Herald Staff, whether you're coming, staying, or going, for the immense amount of work you put in to make the Brotherhood a better place!

Wonderful work!! Those illustrations are truly beautiful and inspiring!!
