With the heartwarming and sometimes heartstopping comps out and about and the competitions heating up we’ve certainly got activity rearing!

Fiction

Governers Office, Tythas City

A gloved hand stared blankly at the papers as she scattered them in front of her with about as much enthusiasm as anyone could muster while the conversation continued between her Aedile and ProConsul.

“That’s barely enough for one capital-class,” Jon said. “Come on, Len; this project has Miho’s personal stamp of approval on it. We both know you can do better than this.” Jon insisted.

Len’s holographic shoulders shrugged in defeat. “In better times, maybe; but with the situation on Kiast, Miho doesn’t want to divert resources that might be needed for,” he paused searching for the proper words. “Emergency situations.”

A polite way of saying ‘brewing civil war,’ Asani thought as she listened to the two banter back and forth for a while longer while she stared out to the city for a moment before focusing on the conversation once more. Jon had a mind like quicksilver and spun words like a poet, but the Proconsul was the stone even he couldn’t draw blood from.

“I’m sorry Jon,” Len said diplomatically. “Maybe once this situation with the Vatali is resolved we can re-visit the issue.” he stated with finality.

With that, the line disconnected, and the office was plunged into the dim-lights of the ceiling lamps.

“Well that went about as well as could be expected,” Asani said, rising from her chair. “Honestly I’m surprised we managed to get as much from them as we did.”

Jon frowned. “I thought you said you wanted this plan to go thorough; you seem a little calm for someone whose plans just got dashed.”

Asani met Jon’s gaze with a devilish smirk as she walked towards the chamber exit; Jon rose to follow behind her, observing as the lagomorph placed her helmet back on.

“I am. Project: Pathfinder is just the kind of thing House Sunrider was founded for, before the war on Quermia through everything off kilter.” She turned to him. “If things go as well as your plan predicts, Tythas could become the biggest free-port in Kiast, maybe the whole sector. Yes, I am very invested in that.”

Project: Pathfinder had grown out of an idea the summit had bounced around; a whole exploratory fleet, based out of Tythas and dedicated to charting new hyperspace lanes to and from Kiast, all with the goal of bringing in resources for Clan Odan-Urr.

It was bold. Ambitious. Just a little greedy. Sunrider to the core.

“Then how do you propose we build a whole exploratory fleet with a half-dozen bulk freighters and barely enough credits to fuel them?” Jon asked, concerned, without any proper funding they might as well be without assistance.

“I thought you were used to scrounging something from nothing. Out here on the frontier, we’re old hats at it.” The shorter woman stated, her tone doing a poor job at hiding her smirk.

“My methods of scrounging,” he replied smoothly, “Were a little less than legal.”

“So were ours, but I’m not talking about smuggling or piracy. But you need to stop thinking like a broker or a middle-man and start thinking like a leader, Jon. You’re an Aedile now, and you have a lot more resources to draw on then one ship and your wits.”

Jon’s eyebrows rose in understanding.

“You want the people to fund it.” he stated as realization dawned on him.

Asani nodded. “If there’s one thing Sunrider is good at, it’s competing with itself. We’ll make a race out of it, and once you put bragging rights on the line, I promise you the credits will simply flow in.” she made a motion with her hand almost as if a ship were flying by.

She handed him a datapad. “Now, get to work. Project: Pathfinder has a lot of work to do.”
