Panda Praise

Recently, my close associate and Praetor Evant wholly earned his appointment to the Dark Council via Voice of the Brotherhood. Congratulations, Evant; the fictional future of this club is in solid hands.

I have a clear idea of what I want out of my Praetor and did not see myself electing anyone I have not already worked with. Thus, I offered the position to Howlader. Howie has served as P:MAA before and has been doing a bang up job in his ambiguous Special Magistrate role (a position I will not refill). He knows the office and knows no nonsense. Here’s to the future.

Steady…Steady…

There have not been any major announcements out of the Master at Arms office because things have been, by and large, running the course. Our turnaround remains stellar with a few notable exceptions being worked on. Kordath and Landon continue to perform excellently in their capacities as Magistrates. Here’s a short list of small accomplishments that add up:

  • We worked with Shadow to update the Sith Lords Wiki pages (of which there were five) and collapse them into a single page. Another example is “Shadow Hand” excited as its own page but has been collapsed into the “Fictional Role” section of “Deputy Grand Master.”
  • The hard coded list of names that bounce a new join (you can’t be named Skywalker) was updated and drastically reduced for simplicity. There use to be an old Wiki page with tons of examples never followed. We deleted that and are just watching for hard abuses.
  • Crescents upgrade above ten participants, not at ten; the policy wording was updated to reflect this.
  • The Clan Title Census is regularly checked for accuracy (such as the addition of Urr a few months back), but leaders are encouraged to take a look and let me know if anyone is missing.

As always, we love being emailed about requests beforehand and are happy to field questions and offer explanations. I try to keep discussions that yield interesting or thoughtful results in my inbox until I can summarize them here for the record. Let’s run through a few:

  • Promotions will always be built around recent activity. If I work tirelessly for two years but go Rogue for one, I will not be granted an EQ2 promotion as soon as I return. It is a hard truth that people are sometimes overlooked for recognition, but it is not fair to justify failures in the past with standards set today. A promotion does not have to be entirely earned within the last six months, but when we check a member’s dossier and see nothing since April, we’re skeptical.
  • Unit to unit transfer requests typically have a cool down applied, but this is primarily for rage quits. It will always be the member’s prerogative to go where they please. That said, we attempt to hold requests for at least six hours to make sure leaders on both sides are aware. In my opinion, most everything happening can wait six hours.
  • On the subject of transfers, remember when changing paths you should first go Rogue, then change paths, then transfer to the appropriate unit. The transfer and path change forms include colorful tool tips with more details. These steps will change when the neutral-favor system is wholly implemented.
  • I always link the MAA Wiki Category at the bottom of my reports, but here’s the link again. Check these pages. They receive regular tweaks as we adjust policies and fine tune wording. Many questions can be answered here.

The Good Book

I implemented a GM-style “recc of the month” competition at the beginning of this year to award crescents to recommendations we deem good examples. Each is meant to signify different things: a good Equite walkthrough, a to-the-point Dark Cross, so on. We will collect these on a Wiki page, but for now here is a list of what has been awarded thus far, excluding Halcyon's crescent in my previous report.

We highly encourage leaders to take a look, particularly if you are looking to award a similar medal or promotion, but remember these are examples, not templates. Guidelines, not rules.

There remain a slew of policy and Wiki page updates currently in the works, but things progress smoothly. Contact me privately if desired or you can reach the entire staff at [Log in to view e-mail addresses] with questions, concerns, complaints, or suggestions.

In non-MAA news, I recently preordered Battlefront for Xbox One (though I will cancel should I purchase a PS4 before December). Message me if you’re looking for Xbox friends — gamer tag is Dexter Pax.

Nice, I appreciate the examples. Always like to see information!

A clarification on unit to unit transfers: we "hold" transfer requests until the respective leaders acknowledge receipt of it. If this acknowledgement happens within 30 minutes, we will approve the transfer. If we hear nothing after six-ish hours and deem the request of sane mind, we approve the transfer. The goal is to maintain a member's ability to transfer anywhere while also keeping everyone on the same page with why.

Yaaay for the Panda!

Congratulations, Howie! Approve all things (that meet MAA policy standards)!

Yay Howie!

What's the point in transfering to rogue first if you request a path change? You will automatically be transfered to rogues when a path change is approved.

I can say for certain from a screw up I made earlier today (which I did fix, of course :P), you do NOT get kicked to rogues anymore, so...no :P

I think we are in an in between state as James works on incorporating new path system elements into the website. So for now, it's easiest to go Rogue first.

The Reccomendation awards is a nice little read. Adds a bit of life to what was almost always a dull DC report (MAA reports were never the most intriguing). Good work Aabs.

And congrats Howie!

So what you're saying is that James broke the site? :P

Nope, works as intended :)

Congratulations Howie!

(James breaking the site and it working as intended are not mutually exclusive? :P)

and thanks!

I think Taig simultaneously complimented and dissed my reports...?

Just saying that your format is a lot cooler to read than say...Korras' or Kaek's (love you both).

Worst Howie ever, taking all the jobs and making a brilliant performance of them!
