Pro Bowl VI: And so it begins...

probowl

Clans of the Brotherhood, I bid you greetings. I come before you in the wake of recent events to issue an offer. Let none deny the perils of our times. While we battle one another, divided by the petty strife of our common history, the tide of a greater conflict is turning against us, threatening to destroy all that each of us has built. It is time for us as clans and as individuals to set aside our long-standing feuds and vendettas. The Children of Mortis are upon us, and we must find a way to stand against them or risk being swept away.

The Council stood by as we weathered the worst of the Children's blows. Whatever promise of protection and defense they promised is a phantom; a memory. They were absent until they could ensure their victory, maintaining their strength as we grew weaker. The devastation wrought by the recent invasions of our systems is self-evident. We have seen our planets smashed by the hammer blows of their asteroid dreadnoughts. We have seen first-hand our armies corrupted by the nightmarish crystals of the Children. Unprecedented and unimaginable though they may be, these are the signs of our time.

As such, I extend an invitation to you all to attend a summit in the city of Canto Bight on Cantonica. A neutral site, Canto Bight offers the security and blind eye of the galaxy's wealthy elite. Bring whomever you wish as part of your delegation, each Clan is allowed to bring one, and only one, vessel from their navy as escort. As a show of good faith, Plagueis will limit itself to one cruiser, the Resolution.

Whomever else you bring with you, know this: the summit will be amongst the Consuls alone. We must find a path to stand together against this threat, or at the very least set aside our differences to not work at cross purposes until the current emergency is resolved. It is my hope that each of you will attend.

I await your replies.

Pro Bowl VI: 2022

The Pro Bowl is officially upon us. The prologue event is already off and running, and can be found here. This initial puzzle will be used by the team captains to determine who picks first in each clan for team selections, and offers the first event to get everyone started on earning points for the Pro Bowl.

This year's attendees are Clans Vizsla, Scholae Palatinae, Naga Sadow, Taldryan, Odan-Urr as well as the Council. The 2022 Pro Bowl will once again pit two teams, the Frog-dogs and Rotworms (titans of the Huttball court) led by leaders from each clan and made up of equal parts of each clan's roster. The Pro Bowl will be hosted by the six sitting Consuls of each of the participating clans. The team captains will be a mix of the summit and senior members of all four clans, as such:

Team Frog-dogs:

  • Sanguinius Tsucyra Entar, Naga Sadow
  • Aurora "Aura" Ta'var, Odan-Urr
  • Alaris Jinn, Plagueis
  • Talon Jade, Scholae Palatinae
  • Koda Kendis, Taldryan
  • Juda Graves, Vizsla
  • Rajhin Cindertail, The Council

Team Rotworms:

  • Bentre Stahoes, Naga Sadow
  • Randyrumrnr, Odan-Urr
  • Qormus Aquila, Plagueis
  • Thran Occasus-Palpatine, Scholae Palatinae
  • Valkyrie, Taldryan
  • Kanal O'neill, Vizsla
  • Zxyl Bes'uliik Taldrya, The Council

We hope to have all the clan drafts completed ASAP so we can get those team rosters released quickly.

Overview

Pro Bowl 2022 is a three-week, multi-event competition designed to test each and every member of the attending units. An opening event will determine which order our teams will have in a Draft-style event led by the Pro Bowl organizers. The teams will alternate their selections until the entire roster of all attending units are split between them, with equal parts of each clan ending up on each team. Once the roster is set, the teams will battle it out in a series of events spread over the course of three weeks. Events will include the standard fare of Fiction, Graphics, Gaming, and Trivia, along with some less common events designed to help test each member participating. We're aiming to provide a nicely rounded field when it comes to the competitions on offer, with nearly all of the events set for individual entrants aside from one small group fiction.

Schedule:

The Pro Bowl will be running on a very similar schedule to last year, with our prologue week event starting September 26th. Then, we will have three single week rounds following that with the entire event ending October 23rd. Full week by week breakdowns are as follows:

Communications:

Much as we had last year, Discord support for the Pro Bowl teams will be making their return. DGM Dacien Victae and he has been gracious enough to set up a Pro Bowl chat area on Discord for the event once more, and will be handling the herculean task of assigning everyone to their teams. Team members will all be assigned roles for their team channels, so be on the look out for when your team channel shows up!

Scoring:

Something that has been carried over from Pro Bowls past, is an emphasis on showing up. Every member, every entry will contribute to the overall score of each team, and lead one of them to victory. Contributions big and small up and down the roster, just like the 53 man roster of an American football team, are meaningful! This can be seen in the Pro Bowl scoring system:

Each individual will earn five points per event they participate in. Participation is defined as a valid submission for an event. Simply signing up for an event or uploading an unqualified submission will not count. You have to put in the effort in order to receive the reward. Participation will earn 5 points.

Additionally, the top three individuals in each event will earn placement modifier points. First place will earn 4 points, second place will earn 3 points, and third place will earn 2 points, and all other entries will earn 1 point. Events themselves will have modifiers based on their perceived difficulty/level of effort required. For example: the modifier for fiction will be 3, the modifier for gaming/graphics/poetry will be 2, and no modifier will be added to puzzle/trivia/flash events.

Grading formula: (Placement Score * Event Modifier) + Participation = Event Score

At the end of the competition, the individual scores for all three weeks will be added up, and the top three individuals will earn crescents for the overall competition. Total scores for both teams, including the Prologue Week event, will determine the victorious team.

Members will get more points for placing, but the biggest way you can contribute to your team's victory (and bragging rights over your opponents, be they from other Clans or your fellow Clan-mates) is just being active. So, to quote Theodore Roosevelt: "Get Action!"
