Proconsul Report #1

Hello everyone and welcome to my first official report as Proconsul of Clan Taldryan! I’ve been in the position for a few months now, and I’ve had sections in Ood’s reports since then, so I will spare you all the introductions.

First, the big news: our next Clan event!

Thankful In Thanadris

Interitus Cairn is not the violent, chaotic, dying world we thought it was. It has recovered from the turmoil that almost destroyed it and become a bountiful paradise. Through the connection established by the former Lady Second, the Taldryan Republic has turned its hungry eye toward the resource-rich planet. But our Clan is not the only faction interested in exploiting Interitus Cairn, and some may already have a head start.

Excerpts from the Memoirs of Lady Second Cassandra Oriana Taldrya:

“Entry 341. It’s hard to believe that it has been nearly a year since I came to Interitus Cairn in my self-exile. While I originally planned to remain here by myself for some time, it was fate that I came across the Proto-Jedi of the Thanadris ruins. While apprehensive at first, it wasn’t long before we became friends and I was invited to join them as an ally. Despite that, I still choose to live by myself…just, much closer to Thanadris now.”

“In just this short year it’s incredible how far along things have come. Together we have expanded the village four-fold into a decent small-sized city and trade hub, with more people coming from all across the area to live here and work. That isn’t even counting the Dalicron refugees that are being funneled here quietly under the Supreme Chancellor’s nose using the Drake. Though with the size of the village quickly evolving into a town, I doubt we can keep it hidden from space much longer.”

This small event will be the first proper introduction to Interitus Cairn and specifically the settlement of Thanadris, which through the efforts of you all(good and bad) will grow and evolve over time. Use the information on the wiki and in the fiction, but don’t be afraid to be bold. We are building this world together!

Updates

As I’ve stated before, my goal as Proconsul is to ensure that everyone feels like they have the opportunities to contribute to the story of the Clan in a meaningful way. For example, I have repurposed the popular #TalQuestion into a new, weekly format. The questions are now centered around a different region of Clan territory and the members vote on the suggestions to decide which ones get added to the wiki and become official Clan canon. The winning answers from August are:

Dotting the landscape of the Arreat Mountains are Dei’moon plants, a small shrubbery that will spread across large spans of ground, with crevice-seeking tendrils. Once it has located a suitable spot for water, wind protection, and shaded sun exposure, the plant will grow there for a number of years until a short, spiky shrub forms and exhausts its space. When this happens, another vine will venture forth. Once a shrub is half-way grown, the vine can be broken; however, adventurers will often be careful to not break any lone vines strewn across the mountain, just in case. These shrubs produce tiny berries twice a year, they are edible and arguably delicious. Birds and insects will often be found eating them.

Due to the extreme conditions across much of the mountain range, there are vast expanses that go unmonitored for weeks or months. Some intelligence reports indicate that illicit drug manufacturers have taken advantage of these lapses in surveillance and set up operations at various locations hidden within the range. One should be cautious when approaching one of these “farms”, as there likely be significant security present.

If you're extremely lucky, you may come across a rare feline species with a body full of scales ranging in colors of ashen black to smokey grey. Named Magmili, this species was thought to be extinct, killed off for their scales that help protect them from the magma. After the Cloudhaven Defense Platform fell, a hidden subspecies emerged from the depths of the crater. Their glands produce a slime that provides a protective layer on their scales from the melting heat. Their paws are rather large in proportion to their body for fast climbing and their long tail helps balance them as they can be seen walking and hopping on magma, solid rocks, and even steep cliff faces. They can swim in the magma but only for a short time, as the heat wears off the protective slime on the scales. Their eyes are onyx with reflective membrane to protect them from the heat and the brightness of the magma, with the benefit of not limiting their sight in dark environments.

Another animal venturing out of the crater were Magma Skippers. Similar to the common mud skipper, these small creatures move along the surface of magma flows. They eat fungus, bacteria, and small insects that typically manage to grow in the high temperature environments, staying close to the heat zone and preying on any top-side bugs that dare approach the edge. They are very strong swimmers, lending to being able to jump powerfully on hard ground; however, their high internal temperature means they cannot go far from the magma flows without risking hypothermia.

Thank you to Zuza, Vodo, and Jenni for their submissions and everyone who voted. These will be added to the wiki soon!

I have also taken over running the Clan roleplays, having run a successful one over the summer. Thanks again to my wonderful players! Planning the right time for the next one has been tough, but stay tuned for an announcement on when it will be! A clue about its subject may be found in a brief exchange between an OSI analyst and their supervisor.

Closing

And that is the end of my first report! Thank you for sticking it out until the end. See you soon!

Great report!!
