Regent Report #27

Noobis Regent

Hello there.GIF

This report is pretty straightforward, and revolves mostly around the first baby steps of our crafting system.

Crafting System

As I stated last month (sorry for the delay, thank you everyone for your immense patience) and as everyone who logs in regularly has observed, James finished coding the trophy that makes our implementation of crafting possible: I Said No Power Tools!. This trophy is explicitly tied to your current and future XP, and provides a special crafting material (Carbon Nanofiber) that is required to craft any item. Today the Crafting System takes its first baby steps with the launch of both craftable Lightsabers and Member Corvettes, with Droids, Armor, Weapons, Space Vehicles, and Land Vehicles to follow at a later date.

We've prepared two handy primers for the Crafting System, Crafting 101: The Basics and Crafting 102: Member Corvettes, which should tell you all the basics you need to know in order to craft and disassemble Masterwork-rarity items. This information will also be posted to the wiki in the next few days for ease-of-access. Crafting materials (for now) are going into existing stores, with Lightsaber crafting materials making their way into the Eos Exotic Kyber Bazaar and Member Corvette crafting materials and upgrades having been dropped into Synergy Starship Outfitters. At a later date once additional crafting materials have been added for Armor, Droids, Weapons, Space Vehicles, and Land Vehicles it is possible they'll find their way into their own stores, but no guarantee.

Because of the way lightsaber requirements are handled with the HRLD/RGT staffs and how I Said No Power Tools! has been laid out, today's launch of craftable Lightsabers and Member Corvettes (along with their upgrades!) is exclusively for those that have attained the rank of Equite 2 and have enough Carbon Nanofiber to craft a weapon-type item. I realise that this is a bit of a bummer for those under that rank who were hoping to utilize the new system upon initial launch, but rest assured that the next item on our docket are Droids and Armor-type items, which will be craftable at Equite 1.

Important notes on Member Corvettes:

  • Yes, they cost a lot and are by and far the biggest credit investment you can make. Rightfully so.
  • While the Corvettes that typically have hangars do have hangars, the size of the Hangar sub-item slot is set to 4, so you will only be able to slot up to 4 different space vehicles. This is to prevent abuse (like, say, trying to slot twelve 30-meter long ships inside a 200-meter long Corvette. An additional expanded hangar bay upgrade is being offered for purchase.
  • Partially as a little test, but really because we feel it's the best implementation, Member Corvette Upgrades differ from those used by Land and Space Vehicles. Each upgrade type does not have a specific slot you need to slot it into. Instead, there is a single Upgraded Components slot that will accept up to six different Member Corvette Upgrades of any upgrade type.

Many of you might be disappointed that the Crafting System isn't more robust with options, especially for lightsabers ("Where are my ten different types of Lighstaber emitters?"). The reality of the situation is that we work with what we got, what is going to provide the best experience for membership in terms of access, usage, and understanding, and what implementation makes the most sense or is easiest for our resident CodeGod James to implement into the website. We did our best to strike a balance with granularity in order to make the Crafting System something people will hopefully want to use and enjoy.

In total, hundreds of different things from crafting materials, upgrades, items, and crafting recipes have made their way into the possessions system just for Lightsabers and Corvettes. There will be hundreds upon hundreds more as we expand into the other craftable item-types. I can't thank my team enough for their massive amounts of dedication to the Regent Staff and Brotherhood at large, ensuring that we try to put out the best product we can. While we do our best, it's important to remember that we're only human and sometimes mistakes are made - but can always be rectified, as far as the possessions system goes.

The Regent Staff will be releasing a public survey in #db-general on the DB Discord server within the coming days to gather whatever feedback the membership may have, positive or negative, regarding; the crafting system itself (how everything is laid out, the process of crafting an item, etc), options provided (which we are always able to expand, although I stand by my statement that not every item will be craftable and not every item will be purchasable), the way we implemented Member Corvette Upgrades, the possibility of craftable upgrades, etc.

Other Stuff

We continue to occasionally plug away at other stuff (for a little break, here and there) from the Crafting System to work on other things. We'd go mad if we didn't. As such, we're continuing to work on booster releases, possessions required for societies, possessions rewards, and last but not least have begun working with our newest Emissary on recruitment possessions. I personally have been mulling changes to the way upgrades work for Armor, Droids, and Weapons, and have been gathering (at random) occasional member feedback from various members.

Our next item booster release, which I will tell you right now has been dubbed Racers! is about to go through the preliminary review stage, at which point we'll tweak it as needed and eliminate the things we need to.

It has arrived! Great work Regent team on getting this out.

WOOOO!

Now I have to decide if I want to sell my ship and sync everything into a Corvette.

What is there to sync? Your music?

It's syncing, Vynn! IT'S SYNCING!

Is the Capital Ship Authorization License supposed to be purchasable?

What an insane amount of work and time must’ve gone into this. I appreciate it very much.

I’ll be taking a thorough look at things. Do we get to make our custom functional aspects again with those yellow/gold items? I lost some custom aspects I cared about with the upgrade system back then (I’m guessing armor/robes come later?). Or is that not coming back?

A sweet lot. Started pouring resources into my first corvette and super excited.

I have no words other than to say how impressive this is. Bravo!
