Regent Report #6: Let There Be (Weapon) Upgrades

Noobis Regent

I'm tired, it's late, I'll try to keep this brief. And if anyone has any questions that this news post doesn't answer, feel free to email the Regent Staff at [Log in to view e-mail addresses] and we'll address it when our fingers stop bleeding.

Weapon Upgrades

Are here! This is by far one of the biggest updates the Regent Staff has ever deployed, partially because of the multitude of weapons we have in possessions across Uncommon, Rare, Epic, and Legendary rarities. Before I get started, I'd like to straight up thank my Praetor Thran Palpatine for suffering through tonight's update with me. He was a massive help, and without him this would have taken many hours longer.

In total, there are over three hundred upgrades added to the system today, replacing modification aspects on weapons. On some weapons you will notice you have extra slots to play with using upgrades than with the previous modification aspects, while some weapons will remain the same. I'm not going to break down the multitude of upgrades, however I have here a list of the new upgrade types that are joining the system to replace modification aspects. There's a lot of them.

Like droid upgrades, these upgrades won't cost anything (except for Lightsaber Focusing Crystals). You simply go into your item's admin page, and select them like you would a feat. There are no written drawbacks to these upgrades, they're just meant to improve your stuff. If you want to write a drawback into your fiction for a little extra realism, that's up to you!

At the time of deployment, while they support them, there are not very many tier IV upgrades for Legendary-rarity weapons. We are always open to ideas for a future release of additional weapon upgrades though, and have opened up the Suggestion Box (found in a link at the end of this news post) to accept suggestions for additional weapon upgrades.

Eos Exotic Kyber Bazaar

The Bazaar is now open! All lightsabers have been de-stocked from Antei Armaments, and can now be found stocked in the Bazaar. Joining our regular lightsaber items in this store are a total of 17 new kyber crystals that you can slot into your lightsaber as a Lightsaber Focusing Crystal, and one new type of lightsaber weapon! Here's the breakdown, and a little blurb on each..

Lightsaber Crystals

  • Available at JM4
    • Obsidian Crystal
    • Synthetic Kyber Crystal
  • Available at EQ1
    • Adegan Crystal
    • Christophsis Crystal
    • Dragite Gem
    • Krayt Dragon Pearl
    • Nishalorite Stone
    • Solari Crystal
    • Tainted Nightsister Crystal
    • Varpeline Crystal
  • Available at EQ3 (to mirror a few lightsaber blade effects offered by the Herald on custom saber requests)
    • Barab Ingot
    • Pontite Crystal
    • Sorian Crystal
    • Zophis Crystal
  • Available at EL1
    • Black Kyber Crystal
    • Dantari Crystal
    • Ghostfire Crystal

An important note on these crystals: Some have special effects, others don't. Some modify the appearance of the blade with a blade effect, and are locked to higher ranks. The purpose of these crystals is to allow yet another level of customization in your lightsaber in addition to lightsaber upgrades, making it personal to you. The chances of someone having the same crystal and same lightsaber upgrades as you are low. It'll happen, but they're low.

From a possessions standpoint, it is not mandatory to have these crystals slotted in order to achieve the blade effect on your displayed dossier art, nor request it. This is simply something to help lightsabers more closely link with dossier art, as has been their intention since inception. If the Herald decides to institute a policy requiring these crystals for a blade effect, that is entirely his call.

New Lightsaber Weapon
Added to the Bazaar effective immediately is a new class of lightsaber. It's been canon for a while, but I wanted to wait for upgrades to launch. A super specalized and modified lightsaber, the single mode Lightwhip is now available for purchase. Additionally, elders have the option of selecting a dual phase mode for their Elder Lightsabers that allows it to switch between a regular blade and Lightwhip mode.

New Feat: Whip It Good
**This is very important
: As noted on the weapon, you require the Whip It Good feat in order to use this weapon effectively, without harming yourself. Additionally, after a discussion with the Voice, we've come to the conclusion that you will only be able to wield ONE of these weapons at a time due to the immense danger they pose to one's health and the effort it takes to keep track of so many tendrils of limb-cutting energy. Don't attempt to write yourself using two, it's not realistic.

Regent Seperator

That's all for tonight, folks. The Regent Staff is going to take a well deserved break for a little bit, but I have a special treat making it's way to you guys around Sithmas time. :D

Regent Signature

Great stuff! Thank you!

Beautiful. Already swapping and tweaking my stuff. :)

Yeaaaah lightwhip!

Is there anywhere we can see a complete list of the new upgrade options or is the only way to buy an item and then look at what's available for it?

So cool! Thank you!!!!

Looking forward to seeing all the new stuff. Great job by the Regent staff.

This is slick. Incredible work you've done!

Interesting new stuff...

Shame that Knight's sabers become kinda overshadowed by bought ones, though. When I got my JM4 saber, I was really excited, even if it was by all means exactly as useful/capable as the Armory version. But now, a purple Lightsaber has actually more cosmetic and functional improvement possibilities compared to my trusty Knight's saber and it makes me kinda sad that I will have to customize a generic store-bought saber into representing the weapon Tali has so much history with, rather than adapting my existing possession with the new elements to flesh it out mechanically to what it already is fictionally.

On a second note: How is the Double-Off upgrade different from the Lock-On switch?

If the double-off requires two taps of the button to shut the saber off and a tap implies you stop pressing it, then a double-off saber cannot be one which requires the user to constantly hold the button pressed to keep the balde lit (otherwise the upgrade wouldn't make sense as the blade would shut off when the button is released).

Requiring 2 pushes vs requiring a push to deactivate a lightsaber seems like a veeeeery minor change not worthy of a custom upgrade (IMHO). The "lock-on" upgrade seems far more generically useful. The double-off upgrade just seems to open up a can of worms, like say if I'd prefer there to be a keycode or a sequence of button pressing "tap-taptap-tap" which is required to ignite/turn off the lightsaber? Would seem like a "Custom Engagement Sequence" upgrade would make more sense and be more utilitarian than a singular way of turning the blade on and off.

But overall, I'm quite excited to customize my saber(s)! Woo, credit drains!

@Zen no, there is no list available for you guys to view.

@Tali the entire point is that after going up in rank beyond JM4, you have the ability to buy a higher quality saber, which then comes with additional upgrades.

And that makes sense, but I can't even slot in a yellow lightsaber crystal into my Knight saber. ^^"

"There are no written drawbacks to these upgrades, they're just meant to improve your stuff. If you want to write a drawback into your fiction for a little extra realism, that's up to you!"

Drawbacks

They took away the option to make custom aspects? Por Que?!

@Tali you don't need to. Crystals are just for extra flair and to help more closely mirror/tie in to dossier art. That aren't mandatory, and you lose nothing including blade color choice by not using them.

@Creon Custom aspects were never supposed to be a thing for functional modifications to items. They were used as a stop-gap measure because upgrades weren't ready when possessions launched. It has been the goal since launch to eliminate that stop-gap and replace it with the system that was supposed to be there in the first place. We started with starships. Then droids and weapons. Next is armor, and finally following that land vehicles.
