This will be a quick one, but I wanted to highlight a simple tool for working out your character’s own timeline, as well as several competitions that are running without delay.

Character Timeline Development

While talking with Xenmordin he brought to my attention a gdoc spreadsheet he was using to work out the details. This included setting up multiple timelines to look at to map events across. He created a blank one and left out his real life (OOC doings) and own character (IC doings) and set it to start in 0 ABY but I felt with some modifications and filled out it could be of benefit to anyone trying to reset their character into the current Brotherhood timeline. As such, I am sharing it here for everyone else if it can be of use.

Blade Ta’var is running a Brotherhood wide competition, named as a play on the concept of the movie Inside Out, which will actually be a trilogy of three competitions running over the next three months that will specifically look at defining moments (memories) that define who your character is. Keep an eye on the parent competition and as you spend some time thinking over your character’s timeline (see above) spend a little more time giving deeper thought and writing out some stories of these important memories.

The first of these competitions early childhood will run until the end of April.

The Magical 1%

Wuntila Arconae is running a competition where you write a story from the perspective of an everyman, or normal character within the Brotherhood that relates to and explores the concept of the magical 1% which are all of our important powerful and otherwise meaningful characters. It’s an interesting concept and I’ve personally enjoyed writing for some competition prompts where the opportunity presented itself to explore how a soldier may feel being in the presence of Evant and seeing him in action. I’m co-organizing for a chance at 1st level crescents, and it’s running until the end of April as well.

A New Order's Rending

Still running is the Voice staff run competition that takes place immediately following the latest fiction update, giving your character a chance to take sides and do what they think is right. There are still 9 more days until this closes, for a chance at 1st level crescents and double Clusters of Ice for the first 2k words written.

Conclusion

As I, and many others, take the time to fully re-evaluate our characters so their timelines fit with the new Canon and Brotherhood, I wanted to share the immediate tool and highlight some great competitions that I think look at both the past and present to develop their backstories.
