Voice of the Brotherhood: Report 4

Insert fancy Voice of the Brotherhood banner here

I am sure by now you have all read the latest Grand Master’s report that sets a roadmap through the start of next year and the next Great Jedi War. Everything is on track towards those objectives, at least as far as I can tell, but I wanted to go into a few more Voice related matters in service of the membership to clarify some things, go over some project updates, and some help that could be offered.

Updates

Some things that happened over the past month that need to be addressed....

Clusters of Ice

From my last report you saw an update to the Cluster of Ice wiki page that included some improved formatting under requirements to earn the medals through Fiction. It became apparent during the subsequent discussions on the change that the Wiki had never been updated to properly reflect how Clusters of Ice are awarded for participation in a Run On competition. Wiki is now updated.

Lightsaber Forms

It came to my attention recently after an email from Arron Saylos, that the Ligthsaber Forms Wiki page does not properly reflect what the site uses are prerequisites for using the different forms. I need to find out everywhere the site mentions this prerequisite, and make sure that this gets updated. In the meantime based on what James sent this is what it should be.

  • No Prerequisite: Form 0, Shii-Cho, Makashi, Soresu, Ataru, Djem So, Niman
  • Equite 2: Dun Moch, Vapaad
  • Equite 3: Jar'Kai Niman, Sokan, Juyo, Shien
  • Elder: Trakata

Character Sheets

Approval and management of the entire Character Sheet process is something I am very passionate about, but admittedly still understanding common pitfalls and helping members utilize such a great tool. Aspects in particular are something that someone can invest a significant amount of energy into trying to make their character unique and exactly to their vision. However these Character Sheets fall under some specific guidelines for approval. If you ever aren’t sure or need help developing Aspects, please send an email to myself, my staff, and to the Combat Master Wally to get some help. We love developing characters and are always willing to talk through it.

Projects

  • Fiction Society: The initial framework is proposed. James has done some initial coding to see where everyone would land in the society if launched. Fictional background has been drafted up. First pass of proposed awards has been put together and is in discussion. Data cleanup and availability of information to reflect contributions of past members has been cracked open. The whole thing keeps moving.

  • Plot Updates & GJW Development: There are small teams in place to discuss these things. Many more than even I’m a part of. If you look at the desired state of the DJB from the Grand Master’s latest report you’ll get an idea of the work that lay ahead. I have an initial draft of a Fiction update already in Sarin’s hands and am working on getting something out as quickly as possible so you can all get a sense of what things are like in the Brotherhood recently.

  • CS 2.0: I hope you all ready Wally’s great update on this. He has said it better than I could. I’ve had an opportunity to join the team late and see the work they’ve done and the passion and dedication shows through in the work. There isn’t a lot of individual comments I can make because it’s really an entire overhaul of improved content and consistency that is coming.

Staff

Now that I have a good grasp on the projects that lay ahead. Looking at some of the data projects for the Fiction Society, the content to be created as the DJB plot expands and preparation for the next GJW, I have decided that while Arden and I could easily overload ourselves to do everything some delegation might make more sense. I will structure the staff depending on the skills and talents of those who apply. So please apply and give examples of work that you have done, writing, wiki, character creation, ACC, work on the CS 2.0 system and anything to help me see what you can do as well as some background on yourself and what you’re passionate about and interested in. I want everyone on the Voice staff focused on specific projects, while also able to review and approve Character Sheets and fiction competitions. I’ll leave it open till July 17th, and send your applications to me and put “Voice staff” somewhere in the subject.

Competitions

  • Keeping it together: This open ended competition is still running for another week until July 10th. So check it out if you haven’t already, or polish up your entries, and take your shot at a diamond crescent.

  • An Objective History: Andrelious from Clan Arcona is still running a DJB wide competition focused on different items your character has owned that will run for the rest of the month until July 28th.

  • Boarding the Zephyr: Bentre Stahoes from Clan Naga Sadow is running a DJB wide competition starting next week and running to the middle of the month. You come across a floating ship, and write about what awaits inside.

  • Chaos Ensues: Mayda from Clan Scholae Palatinae is running a DJB wide co-op fiction competition that is rather unique, and short. It runs another couple days.

  • My JW Experience: Mayda from Clan Scholae Palatinae, in keeping with the Judecca World theme is running another short 200-800 word fiction competition including dinosaurs. It runs another couple days.

  • Hear Me Roar!: Mayda from Clan Scholae Palatinae, also in her cluster of Judecca World competitions on dinosaurs has a unique one based more on entertainment than writing skill but it may appeal to the more creative among the membership. It runs another couple days.

Clusters of Ice

Reminder again: Organizers must send their pins and word counts to me, for Clusters of Ice to be awarded. ‘’’Format: Pin#wordcount.’’’

Conclusion

I’ve been sticking most my attention on top priority number one, delivering an awesome Fiction Society to everyone. There are some inconsistencies that as they come up I’ll try and report on, and keep up with the day to day. It’s been a fast first month as Voice and looking forward to seeing some of these projects I’ve taken on to completion.

If you ever have any questions, ideas, feel free to let me know. I do my best to reply quickly.
