Voice Report #7: Built by Nations

Magistrate Madness:

We've come to the end of an era; today Reiden has left the Voice staff after five long years of service. An ever-committed member of the community, his vigil certainly hasn't ended here, and those in need will certainly find plenty of answers coming from a midnight Reiden drive-by.

Stepping into the void left by Reiden is none other than the former Envoy (Exarch-staffer) and Quaestor of House Galeres, Bril Teg Erinos through the 31JUNE2027 term! Please join me in welcoming the newest member of our team, and be gentle with them. They've still got a lot to learn about operations before we turn them loose on your character sheets.

Further Positions on the Horizon:

Another Magistrate to the Voice term will be wrapping up on 30SEPT2026, so to anyone who did not apply this term, and again to those who were not selected this term, if you want to try your hand at joining the Voice of the Brotherhood's staff, check back then. Expect openings each quarter, save Q4 (no one goes out during the holidays), as we cycle staff for the opportunities to learn, address community input, and tackle various new projects with fresh eyes, as well as lead new community events such as Lorefest (which is getting a new coat of paint).

Festivals of Lore:

I mentioned previously that I had wanted to address and change how I was running Lorefest, now that War is over and major projects are either underway or in planning, we've got the freed up bandwidth to start throwing more energy at Lorefest. Each month the staff and I will each be responsible for a variety of different competitions, including a Social and/or Objective-based RP, Fiction Competitions, and word-based puzzles or games. I meant to spearhead this last month, but a series of delays, plans, and gathering materials for one of our larger projects took a bit more time than anticipated.

Something Is Coming:

I recently made a comment about this in #fiction-chat in the DB Discord, but remember the old days, where those of you stuck in the backwaters confusion of Imperial versus Metric measurements would have to go offsite to find a converter, or throw yourself at the mercy of a potential remand for out of place decimals?

Thanks to recent collaborations between the Office of the Voice of the Brotherhood and the Seneschal, we've launched an update that shows the conversions in real-time within the Character Sheet Wizard.

That's not the only change on the horizon. Another we wanted to address was stealth dropped before we could even begin on this project. James got ahead of Orv and me, addressing an issue with the Drag and Drop on mobile, fixing the Force Powers/Skill assignment. Whereas before, we relied on the up and down arrows to adjust them, now you just momentarily hold and drag them to place (same as on desktop!).

We've also got some further updates and clarifications for the Character Sheet and the CS Wizard on the way, currently pending review. I'll release a supplemental report once they're released, but as always, please look forward to it.

Six Months as Voice:

And. How!

Nine years ago I joined this club, and immediately after, GJW XII began, wherein I was introduced to The Collective for the first time. Unfortunately, real life took me away from the club after about a year, and I wouldn't return in full until 2023. The few times I came back, I saw the Collective continued to be the big threat on the board, but life dictated that much less of my time be spent online for some time. During the short time since I've returned, I have shot through the club, BTL in Arcona, PCON and CON of Odan-Urr, Magistrate to the Emissary, Praetor to the Headmaster, before landing as Voice of the Brotherhood, wherein I was thrust into my first War as an organizer instead of a participant and got to be the narrative voice behind killing off the enemy I was first introduced to within the club. I couldn't have been honored more by the trust placed in me to take on this role.

Since I've taken this post, I've done my best to roll out content, policy updates, hotfixes for errors within the Character Sheet Resources and Wiki (when it wants to cooperate), and updating and renovating our background systems (Rest in Power C-D4WG, C-SIR will remember you fondly). This is the kind of work I enjoy best: delivering stories, making things for the community, and delivering the best user experience I can.

I look forward to the time ahead, delivering quality content, system updates, and community building with all of you. The first six months have been a ride; here's to the next!
