Wiki Tribune Report - You Only Wiki Twice

WikiHeader

The title is actually a lie… you should Wiki as much as possible. But, seeing as this is my second Wiki Report, the "Twice" bit seemed somewhat fitting. These past two weeks have seen some progress in the Wiki realm. I've asked for applications for Staff, made some cosmetic enhancements, and did my general minor edits. More importantly, I've gotten things set up for future projects and will now have a Staff to help me out with them.

So, without further ado…

Wiki Staff

First of all, I received quite a few applications from members interested in becoming Wiki Staff—honestly; I was surprised by the response. For the time being, I have decided to accept Halcyon Taldrya, Solari (Windos), and Meleu Karthdo as part of staff. These three bring a number of skills to the table that are essential to my initial wiki plans. So congratulations to these three, and thank you to everyone else who applied.

Now, as you may have noticed, I said "for the time being". By that, I mean that as projects begin to ramp up, I will likely add more staff as necessary. I'm starting small because I tend to lose focus if I start a large number of projects at once. There will be future opportunities to apply for Staff. And remember, the Wiki can be edited by anyone—so if you didn't get chosen for staff this time, it in no way impacts your ability to work on your own articles, your unit's articles, or any articles that need updating or fixing.

Journeymen Requirements

As part of the current list of journeymen promotion requirements, there are a few Wiki-based tasks that have, in the past, been ill defined and confusing for both new members and their masters/Summits. To make it easier on all parties, and to increase the general quality of Character Pages, I've created an explanation page and template that can easily be copied and pasted into a new Character Page.

Character Page Template

First thing you'll see is that it's a wall of text… I apologize for that, but I wanted to provide as much information as possible. There is a list of requirements under the "Character Wiki Checklist", which is how the Wiki Staff will judge articles being used for the promotion requirement. If you look at the Table of Contents, you can click on the "Character Page Template" heading to get right to the part you need to copy and paste. The rest of the article offers explanations on various aspects of the page and details how you should fill out the sections.

Now, when you need to have your article approved, you can email my staff and me directly and link the article in question and we'll respond as soon as we can. I'll be in contact with Aabsdu and the MAA Staff to get the promotion requirements updated with more info and a link to the Template. Hopefully this will help members who have been struggling with that DJK/JK wiki requirement.

Wiki Facelift

If you've been paying attention to the Recent Changes page lately, you'll notice a lot of changes have been made to our Infobox Templates (the fancy tables on the right side of most pages). This is thanks to James, who provided us with a way to edit the wiki's styling directly in the wiki, rather than through backend coding. Also, I'd like to thank Gryffon for his invaluable help in setting up all the CSS for our Infoboxes to make them look all sexy on the updated layout. I'm still in the process of changing the last few over, but the main templates (Characters, Units, Military, etc.) have already been updated.

Following the Infobox update, I plan to give our Main wiki page an overhaul. Currently, there's a lot of unnecessary information and wasted space that I'd like to fill with more useful information and, hopefully, DB and SW news.

The next order of business for the Wiki is a project to update all our important pages (anyone remember the Codex?). These are seriously out of date… some haven't been touched since 2006 and, suffice it to say, the Brotherhood has changed A LOT since then. The Wiki Staff will start by going through the core pages (ones relating to the DC, the DB site, events, rules, information, etc.) and give them a thorough audit. After that, we'll begin contacting the people in charge to get a list of updates to make.

Ideas, Suggestions, and Help

In some of the Staff applications I received, there were a few members who had suggestions about various aspects of the Wiki that could be improved, changed, or expanded on. As I've said (a lot), the Wiki is a community project. If you have an idea or suggestion about some aspect of the Wiki, send me an email and I'll look into it. By its very nature, the Wiki will never be a "finished product", so we'll always be tweaking and improving it, and it will be a big help if you all give us your opinions on this stuff.

I mentioned this last time, but for anyone who requires assistance with their wiki, whether for content or format, please feel free to contact me via email or by leaving a comment on my Wiki Talk page . You can also ask general questions on the Discourse Wiki Q&A Thread.

That's it for now. More exciting Wiki news whenever I have some!

#InWhoresWeTrust

Apparently my application, which was the best application ever, didn't make me wiki staff, I am le sad.

Obviously. A single image is hardly enough to get a rise out of me :P
