The Fourteenth Great Jedi War left deep wounds across the surface of Arx. One such victim, unnoticed by the Brotherhood at large, was the Corrino Research Laboratory on the marshy continent of Uskil. The Collective had assaulted the Shadow Academy's Nesolat platform to gain access to the surface of Arx, its strategic importance dwarfing its role as an isolated research facility. When the battle moved to the planet's surface, the Nesolat was discarded like so much chaff, and debris from the disintegrating station was scattered across the planet.

Some of that debris struck the specimen habitat, damaging them enough for the specimens contained within to escape into Uskil’s swampy wilderness. In the aftermath of the invasion, playing animal control was a low priority for the Iron Throne, but the beasts became more of a nuisance—and even a danger—as time went on. Their exposure to the maelstrom of Force energies around Uskil, stirred up by the Grand Master’s ritual during the invasion, has made the creatures aggressive and unpredictable.

Rather than wandering Uskil’s swampy, storm-soaked wildlands, many of the escaped beasts have since returned to their ruined habitats, finding the climate more to their liking; it was designed for them, after all. They’ve since become extremely territorial, attacking any Shadow Academy staff who try to remove them so the habitats can be rebuilt. Rather than continue to delay the Academy’s research and sacrifice hapless construction workers and lab technicians, the Headmistress has put out a call to any members of the Brotherhood who are willing to help with the problem.

Your goal in this scenario is to subdue and capture the hostile creature so that it can be transported to a different facility for further testing. As the creature has been modified by the Academy’s scientists, the Headmistress would strongly prefer that you capture it alive, rather than killing it and forcing the researchers to make do with data from a dead specimen.

The sky above the Uskil continent was a steel blue with heavy storm clouds moving rapidly. The Sheathipede-class transport shuttle landed on the edge of the southwest coast, home to one of many artificial environments designed for creatures hosted by the Corrino Research Laboratory.

A young girl dressed in dark green robes exited the shuttle. She scanned the habitat and understood the aura of its nature from the colors. There was a forest nearby full of tall trees and low vegetation. She wondered for a moment about what creatures dwell in this environment. The sudden noise of engines above her snapped her out of her thinking. It was Jon Silvon, the man who had chosen her for this mission.

She watched as The Grand Carnivale came closer to the ground and landed next to her shuttle. Jon walked up to her, “Greetings, Elyon!” He said with enthusiasm in his voice.

"Greetings, Captain" Elyon replied with a smile.

"I'm sure you already know the task." Jon stated.

"Of course. The only thing I don't know is what kind of creature we'll catch," she answered and looked again at the habitat in front of them.

“Does the name Nexu mean anything to you?” Jon asked, following her gaze.

"I'm afraid not, but I worry for our safety" Elyon said and stepped forward.

The pair entered the Nexu’s natural terrain silently. The sky was still pitch dark, making it difficult to see their steps. Elyon unbuckled her lightsaber from her belt and ignited it to use its glow to help them see.

"So what's in store for us?" Elyon asked, lifting the blade so she could see Jon's face. Before Jon could answer, a large shadow jumped on Jon's back. He dropped to the ground under his weight. It was strange because Elyon wasn't aware of its presence in the Force. Elyon raised her hand and with the help of the Force she lifted the creature and pushed it away.

The creature crashed into the trunk of a tall tree. It took a moment to pick itself up and recover, and then fled away from them.. "Are you okay?" Elyon asked, giving Jon a helping hand to help him to his feet.

“Believe it or not, El,” Jon gasped as she pulled him to his feet. “I have, in fact, been hit harder. Now come one, we need to go after that thing.”

“Wait!” Elyon said, gripping Jon’s wrist and stopping him. “Something not right here. I couldn’t sense that creature’s presence in the Force. Not at all.”

“Like… at all, at all?” Jon asked, with a frown.

“I don’t… what does that even mean?” Elyon shook her head. “Jon, I’m saying that thing is a blind spot for me.”

Jon sighed deeply, leaning back against a tree, though his eyes continued scanning the shadows for any glimpse of the nexu. “Naturally. Because why would Ciara’s guys stop at just making an alpha predator into a super alpha predator, when they can also make it an anti-space magic super alpha predator.”

Elyon had no idea what to say to that, so she held her lightsaber aloft and tried to catch a glimpse of the nexu with her eyes.

“And douse that thing,” Jon said quickly. “It’s probably how that thing found us so fast.”

“Oh, sorry,” she said, deactivating her lightsaber, and plunging them back into darkness. “We’re going to need a new plan though,” she whispered. “If I can’t track it with the Force...:”

“Then yes, we’re gonna have to trap it the old fashioned way…” Jon tilted his head. “Elyon, what’s the old fashioned way?”

“What, you’ve never gone camping before?” Elyone teased.

“El, I grew up on Coruscant,” Jon said, pushing himself off the tree. “The closest I ever came to the wilderness was wandering into the lower levels.”

“Well,” Elyon said. “The first thing we’re going to need is bait.” She looked at Jon in the darkness.

“...I can’t see you, Elyon, but I can feel the look your giving me.” Jon groaned in resignation. “Alright, I see where this is going. What’s the second thing?”

“To dig,” Elyon said. “Got any shovels on the Grand Carnivale?”
