You had arrived on Arx after hearing word of a fighting tournament. It had been set up by the Combat Master and had been advertised as a Revival of the long held tradition of naming a Champion of the Antei Combat Center. As you had arrived at the signup table after waiting in line, you were met by a Trandoshan who looked you up and down, said nothing, and slid a form attached to a clipboard to you. A cheap chain linked a pen to the clipboard.

You read it over and it was a standard legal waiver noting that you could not hold the Combat Master or the Brotherhood liable for any injuries or even potential death that occurred during the tournament. You were entering this tournament of your own free will. Any and all repercussions of doing so were at no one’s fault but your own.

You signed, and the Trandoshan hissed with delight as he pointed to a door behind the table. A cheap paper sign was taped to the door that read “ACC Championship Introductory Meeting” in what looked to be felt-tipped black marker. You stepped inside the dark room and that is the last thing you remember until you woke up just now.

The world around you was dark… and soft. The area that you lay on felt just a bit more firm than a standard pillow. A quick check of yourself revealed that you still wore and carried everything you had when you had signed the waiver. While vision was extremely limited, you could tell that someone else was in the room with you. Four ceiling lights clicked on, one at a time, giving the room a bright glow beneath the four lights, but an eerie darkness outside of their radiance. You were in a padded room with a barred and sealed door. Every surface of the room was covered in thick, firm padded square tiles. You lay on a bed made of the same material in one corner of the room, while someone laid in another bed in the opposite corner. It was too dark to make out their figure well.

A holoprojection dropped from the ceiling, giving the room a pale blue glow. It was Combat Master Vincent Brujah. The Sith smirked as he began speaking.

“So, you’ve signed up for the tournament? Where I come from, that makes you a little crazy. I’ve taken you to a more appropriate environment for someone with your condition.”

As he smiled, pink mist began spraying from the ceiling at the same location as the lights. Slowly, what little you could see of the full room began to tint pink. The Combat Master’s smile grew wider.

“And if you weren’t crazy before… well… we can fix that. The effects of this drug will be pleasant… at first. You must be careful, though. Take too big of a dose and things can get downright terrifying, or so I’ve heard. Prolonged exposure will result in death.”

He shrugged slightly.

“The only way out of this room and into safe air is when I tell my crew to open the door, and I’m only going to do that when there is one of you left capable of walking away. Until then, enjoy the ride.”

The holoprojection blinked away. There was no starting whistle. No horn. No audience. Just silence, dim light, and the realization that the longer you sit there, the closer you would come to death.

Stres'tron'garmis shook his head as he stood up from the bed and checked his belongings. The normally well-prepared Chiss silently cursed the fact that he did not pack an antidote kit with his medical supplies. The pink mist and lack of lighting on the far side of the room made it difficult to discern his opponent's identity.

Strong activated his trusty seeker droid, “Skitters see if you can do something about this dreadful gas.

The droid dutifully obeyed its master’s command and floated up to the ceiling to start probing where the gas was filtering in. This situation was less than ideal, but the noble son of Garmis was not one to back down in the face of a challenge. He readied his electrohammer and riot shield and began advancing toward the light when a low growl emanated from the opposite side of the room.

“Curse you Brujah! Let me face my opponent in honorable combat without intoxicants!”

Strong didn’t recognize the voice shouting in frustration at the Combat Master, but the mention of honorable combat did give him some sense of relief. At least his opponent would be a kindred warrior spirit and not some tricksy backstabber.

Hail, warrior!” the Arconan beckoned to his opponent, “Step into the light and let us engage in honorable combat despite these dreadful circumstances.

A stout-looking Togorian, exactly Stres'tron'garmis’ height, stepped into the light at the center of the room, brandishing a Sith Sword. The warrior’s fur was orange with black stripes and white accents, reminiscent of a tiger and they wore almost tribal looking leather armor. The face seemed familiar but Strong couldn’t place exactly who it was.

The Togorian flashed his canines with a toothy grin, “I see you wear the armor of the Royal Guard. Would you do me the honor of telling me who I am facing today? I am Rajhin Cindertail.”

The realization of his opponent’s identity struck Strong like a bolt of lightning. He would face a former Fist of the Brotherhood; it would be a glorious battle. “You honor me, Master Cindertail. I am Stres'tron'garmis, proud son and bearer of the legacy of House Garmis, warrior of Clan Arcona!” The Chiss pounded his shield to his chest to punctuate his declaration.

Rajhin brought his sword across his chest in a salutatory gesture. “Your deeds and strength are legendary, noble son of Garmis. I shall revel in this contest.”

Then let us begin!” Strong declared as he took up a wide stance and activated his riot shield with a buzz sound and amber glow.

The Togorian leaped forward, as much as he could in the relatively tight quarters of the padded room, bringing his sword above his head in a two-handed grip for a vertical slash. The old tiger moved faster than Strong would have expected him to, but the son of Garmis had enough time to raise his shield. Alchemical steel collided with the energy shield in a bright flash that sent sparks drifting down to the padded floor. Rajhin grimaced as the energy from the shield discharged into his weapon. The blow was powerful and Strong almost felt like his arm would be taken off despite the Chiss’ own considerable strength. He tried to follow up with a horizontal swing of his electrohammer but the Togorian hopped backward to dodge it and brought his right elbow up to point the tip of the sword toward Strong in an attempt to maintain distance.

Rajhin blinked and shook his head for a moment. The gas must have been starting to kick in. “You are as strong as your namesake Stres'tron'garmis!”

Strong could feel his head throb and his vision start to blur; the gas was starting to hit him as well. Time was not on his side. He gave no verbal reply and charged toward Rajhin shield first.
