You had arrived on Arx after hearing word of a fighting tournament. It had been set up by the Combat Master and had been advertised as a Revival of the long held tradition of naming a Champion of the Antei Combat Center. As you had arrived at the signup table after waiting in line, you were met by a Trandoshan who looked you up and down, said nothing, and slid a form attached to a clipboard to you. A cheap chain linked a pen to the clipboard.

You read it over and it was a standard legal waiver noting that you could not hold the Combat Master or the Brotherhood liable for any injuries or even potential death that occurred during the tournament. You were entering this tournament of your own free will. Any and all repercussions of doing so were at no one’s fault but your own.

You signed, and the Trandoshan hissed with delight as he pointed to a door behind the table. A cheap paper sign was taped to the door that read “ACC Championship Introductory Meeting” in what looked to be felt-tipped black marker. You stepped inside the dark room and that is the last thing you remember until you woke up just now.

The world around you was dark… and soft. The area that you lay on felt just a bit more firm than a standard pillow. A quick check of yourself revealed that you still wore and carried everything you had when you had signed the waiver. While vision was extremely limited, you could tell that someone else was in the room with you. Four ceiling lights clicked on, one at a time, giving the room a bright glow beneath the four lights, but an eerie darkness outside of their radiance. You were in a padded room with a barred and sealed door. Every surface of the room was covered in thick, firm padded square tiles. You lay on a bed made of the same material in one corner of the room, while someone laid in another bed in the opposite corner. It was too dark to make out their figure well.

A holoprojection dropped from the ceiling, giving the room a pale blue glow. It was Combat Master Vincent Brujah. The Sith smirked as he began speaking.

“So, you’ve signed up for the tournament? Where I come from, that makes you a little crazy. I’ve taken you to a more appropriate environment for someone with your condition.”

As he smiled, pink mist began spraying from the ceiling at the same location as the lights. Slowly, what little you could see of the full room began to tint pink. The Combat Master’s smile grew wider.

“And if you weren’t crazy before… well… we can fix that. The effects of this drug will be pleasant… at first. You must be careful, though. Take too big of a dose and things can get downright terrifying, or so I’ve heard. Prolonged exposure will result in death.”

He shrugged slightly.

“The only way out of this room and into safe air is when I tell my crew to open the door, and I’m only going to do that when there is one of you left capable of walking away. Until then, enjoy the ride.”

The holoprojection blinked away. There was no starting whistle. No horn. No audience. Just silence, dim light, and the realization that the longer you sit there, the closer you would come to death.

Cassandra looked through the room, examining the walls, the door, everything around the dimly lit room as best she could. There was little she could spot, granted she wasn't that skilled at it, but she had to try.

Out of the corner of her eye however, she kept an eye on the Zabrak who was with her. She didn't recognize him, he was completely quiet, and already he had placed his helmet back on his head. Instead of looking around himself for other options than the two fighting, he was looking straight...at her. No sooner than he had been in his helmet for barely a minute did he suddenly and rapidly disengage the seals and throw it from his head.

"The kriff!?" he yelled out as he gasped for air, his droid watching him curiously. Cassandra was now as well with full attention.

"What's wrong?"

"The air from my helmet filters...it's worse than the air in here." he cursed as he suddenly punched the wall. "There goes my idea of a simple 'coast until the tall chick passes out' idea."

"Then help me find another way out of here." Cassandra replied with a slight bit of amusement to her voice as she turned her attention to the door specifically now. A tingle crossed the back of her mind for the briefest of moments. She knew what that meant. "Or...you can go that route."

She turned around to face the Zabrak, who now held his Synergy Particle Magnum pointed straight at her. He just gave a light shrug before he pulled the trigger. The bolt curved off to the side as Cassandra subtly twitched her fingers. He fired several more shots, the other bolts doing exactly the same. From the suit she was wearing, twin lightsabers fell from both cuffs into her hands and brilliant white light emitted as the blades ignited.

The Zabrak cursed under his breath as he brought out his own lightsaber at this point. "Ken, deal with her while I-"

He couldn't even finish his sentence. Ken had raised his arm and twisted his fist to sequence his built-in blaster but already was in the air ascending towards the ceiling with a loud crunch against the padding. It then was thrown side to side before suddenly being thrown at the solid door and was broken into several pieces. Cassandra turned her gaze towards it and let go of the lightsaber in her right hand. It sailed straight at the droid before spinning in several circles, disembodying the core of it to ensure it was pacified. It's head was off, arms were off, legs were off, everything off.

"Well kriff." the Zabrak said as he ignited his own lightsaber and charged in, the bottom few inches of the room filled with the thick mist at this point that was steadily raising up as more and more was pumped into the room. "Seems I have to do this myself, huh?"

"You will try." Cassandra mused as the lightsaber returned to her hand. She twisted and spun her arms, lightsabers following suit, before the left one was facing behind her back and the right one was straight up in front of her. Both herself and the lightsabers were in a graceful duelist pose. "If you truly feel you must, then come."

"Right." The Zabrak said as he did just that. From the get-go, he realized his mistake. Her athletic ability in how quickly she evaded strike after strike with ease, her strength in how she parried and blocked his blows as if he were striking a solid object that couldn't be cut, and the fact she was able to do so with incredible speed yet seemed to show no signs of slowing. Yet, she did not strike him back.

She was more interested in finding a way for the both of them to get out of this if she could. Though the drug within the mist was already starting to have an effect, and she was getting irritated at this...pest. With one final strike against her, she countered by slashing against his blade while keeping her feet planted and augmenting the strength in her arms. The Zabrak was thrown off balance and fell backward to strike the wall before falling to the floor where he laid face down. Inadvertently he breathed in, cursing under his breath as he realized what had just happened.

He stood back up and with lightsaber in hand, he was now angry as well. "Alright. That's how you want to play it, fine. I'm content with actually killing you now."

And with that, he extended his left arm and struck out with a powerful bolt of force lightning to which Cassandra simply raised her lightsaber to channel it inside and disperse it. She smiled a bit.

"Child's play."

She disengaged her left lightsaber and let it telekinetically return to the cuff of her suit before extending her arm towards him. "Let me show you what real lightning is."

Solid white arcs of power shot forth, each with a solid black thin core to them. It was a strange form of force lightning compared to the typical styles known about. The Zabrak's eyes widened as the bolts struck the walls, ceiling, floor, everywhere except the area he was at. She was deliberately avoiding striking him in the hope that he would just back the kriff off.

"Last chance. Help me get us out of here, together, or I'll give them a show and leave you incapacitated and out of this competition." Cassandra said with a stern voice, with an edge of finality to it. This would be his last chance before she started taking this seriously. If she waited too long, she worried she might end up killing him. She outclassed him, and she knew it. Mercy would be the word of the day, but since the drug was already starting to increase her anger and aggression, she knew that time was about up.

What would happen next was up to him.

Itzo maintained eye contact with his Epicanthix opponent, struggling to keep from having a reaction to her display of power. She had effortlessly blocked his attack and then immediately one-upped him. He could already feel a bead of sweat trickling down his face from between his horns, though he wasn’t particularly tired yet. The drug wasn’t just affecting their mental capabilities; he could feel his actual body temperature rising. This fight needed to end one way or another, and soon. He felt his lightsaber arm twitch.

Residual smoke that still lingered from the lightning strikes drifted between them. Cassandra watched semi-patiently, waiting for the Zabrak to make a move. She held only one of her lightsabers in her hand now, but that would be enough for him. Her skin was bristling with energy. He knew any one of those directed beams could have been the one that ended him, or at least incapacitated him. However, her desire for mercy was quickly fading.

“Say we do work together, how do you ‘spose we get out of here?” Itzo asked cautiously, breaking eye contact to steal a glance around the room. Other than the barred door, it was all just padding. He didn’t even know where to start looking for a secondary exit. “The same folks who knocked us out and put us in here are waitin’ on the other side of that door. You think they’ll let us leave here together?”

“What other choice do you have? You can’t beat me.” The Zabrak couldn’t contain his chuckle at Cassandra’s retort.

“Frak me, you are a scary wom-” A sharp exhale broke the sentence as Itzo’s yellow eyes went wide in shock, focused on something over the Elder Jedi’s shoulder.

‘Surely a trick.’ She thought to herself, as the Force was sending no warnings to her of danger. Still, Itzo quickly redrew his blaster pistol and fired off two shots past her. They crashed into the wall, dissipating into large, black, smoking smudges.

“I thought…I thought I saw…” The Zabrak looked genuinely confused as he lowered the barrel of the pistol. Cassandra narrowed her eyes at him and took a step forward.

“You thought you saw what?”

“I thought I saw one of the men who murdered my father,” Itzo clicked the blaster pistol back into its holster and shook his head. “ But that doesn’t make any sense, since I killed him already."

“Hallucinations?” Cassandra said aloud rhetorically. It made sense that they would begin to affect him much more quickly. Whatever cocktail of a drug mixture, now past her knees and still rising, that was being pumped into the room must have been intentionally designed for spectacle; raise the aggression levels of the combatants and then tap into their individual fears. She needed to get out before they began to affect her. Her fears were better left in her mind.

The lights flickered temporarily and Itzo looked around frantically, panic beginning to set in. He spun around with his orange blade swinging out in front of him, turning his back to the Epicanthix momentarily in the process. He was making precise and skilled strikes, but the targets were ghosts. The drug was fully taking over his mind. Cassandra watched from a few feet away, seriously considering just letting him tire himself out. He was still a threat though, inebriation or not. She took a few tentative steps forward, lightsaber still out in front of her, watching his movements carefully to time her strike.

Once the Jedi had closed within five feet, Itzo whirled around quickly and spun his lightsaber toward her. The two blades collided into a shower of sparks, brightly illuminating the Zabrak’s face. His normally vibrant yellow eyes were instead glazed over with a dull grey and he wore a somewhat sinister smile on his face. Though he was clearly reacting to her, he didn’t seem to be looking at Cassandra.

“I should have killed you a long time ago, Marco. Don’t fight me.” Itzo droned, lost in a memory.

“Okay, I tried.” Cassandra sighed as the mist drifted up to her hips.
