An interesting battle between two battle ready combatants. I really liked the usage of the gravity grenades from Azler, especially in his final post. Titius never fails to deliver on some self deprecating humor, and I enjoyed it as always. Lets get to the score breakdown. For Syntax, I marked you both as 3. You both had some issues that were very noticeable to me. Titius' issues revolved mostly around misspelled words, especially early in his final post. For Azler, it was more related to run on sentences and tense/structure issues that made me go over a few parts of his posts a few times to make sure I understood the intent correctly. I gave Azler the edge in Story, as I felt like there was more there and that the story from his side was more engaging. For Realism and Creativity, I gave you each 4s. No major stick out issues, but areas where there that I felt could have used better clarity or more of a twist to keep the story fresh. Ultimately, Story wins the day in this battle, and Azler moves on to the next round.

dagobah

Located on the Rimma Trade Route within the Outer Rim territories, Dagobah could very well be the best place in the Galaxy to hide. The remote location of the planet in combination with the lack of any kind of advanced civilization made it a system of little value to any kind of galactic government. The planet is hot, humid, and mostly filled with foggy, swamp-like jungles.

Dragonsnake Bog is a murky lagoon on the surface of the planet. Fog covers the cloudy waters of the bog. The waters ranged in depth, but at its deepest the bog was roughly 4 meters deep. Even in the shallow areas, the floor of the bog was thick with mud, making it easy for something or someone to get stuck within the lagoon.

True to its name, Dragonsnake Bog was the home of the large, snake-like creature known as the dragonsnake. The beast had an average length of 7 meters and weight of roughly 200 kilograms, though some fully grown dragonsnakes were much larger. It had large, venomous fangs that could help it to subdue prey and a hunger that was nearly unmatched. The dragonsnake usually hid just below the surface of the water, waiting for an opportunity to find its next meal. Once the creature spotted a snack, it would quickly lunge out to attack it.

Rivulets of moisture rolled down Titius both outside and inside his suit. The muggy air clung to him like a slimy embrace and sweat kept going in his eyes. Blinking furiously, he flipped to thermals to try to find his opponent. Seeing a signature, he stepped forward...

...right into a root. Titius went over like a felled log. His landing sent a pronounced wave into the bog and smeared mud across his visor. Planting a hand to each side, the mercenary pushed his face out and shook his head. The mud remained across his vision. A low groan leaked out as a muddy glove came up to clear the visor, its passage only smearing the scene even worst. After a few swipes he gave up, opting to crawl a few steps forward and dunk the helmet back into the muddy water. Water splashed from side to side as he shook furiously. The scene went from smeared mud to cavitating swamp water but the agitation proved fruitful. Climbing to his feet, Titius drained the swamp water over his chest as he tried to get his bearings. The swamp was alive with ripples from his thrashing. The fog swirled from the dancing water and silence crept back in.

Mere meters away, Kindle just watched his prey bumble around. To his ears, he was making a substantial amount of noise but the swamp seemed to swallow sound like its deep pools would swallow everything else. With a flick, he summoned a lance of flame to burn a copse of vines between himself and Titius. "May as well make this a straight shot if they insist on being so visible."

Lowering himself down close to the water for a moment, Kindle took a breath to steady himself before Amplifying his legs, then shoving hard to get himself as much out of the muck as he could and then igniting his jetpack to clear the rest of the way. The combined boost rocketed the large Hybrid towards his foe, halberd gripped tight and ready to swing as he soared through the opening in the vines and towards Titius.

With the roar of the Sith’s equipment giving away his location finally, the Mercenary snapped one of his knees upwards and extended a hand, his Relby bouncing out of the water and snapping to his magnetic glove as he quickly trained his weapon on the approaching Proconsul and fired off a canister.

The combined speed of both Kindle’s own charge and Titius’ prepared trap left no time for anything beside a slight change in direction, but the Specialist had timed his shot well and with trained accuracy in not relying on his scope, the sound of metal on metal rang out, confirming the impact just a split second before the detonation occurred.

Green gas erupted out of the canister and spread around the immediate area of the swamp, Titius himself disappearing within it as he ensured his helmet was secured. Once again he flipped on his thermals, though knew the chemical composition of the gas would hinder him at least a bit.

“Good trap,” called out the Barabel/Feeorin mix. “Sadly, I’m not quite the preferred intended target.”

As the gas continued to descend and spread, the stylized draconic helmet emerged. Luckily for Singean, this time his gear was unaltered by the Combat Master.

“Ah, Mandalorian. Unfortunate,” stated the Human as he was already changing the settings on his weapon. “Yet noted.”

Within a second of his last word, a blaster shot slammed into the side of the pressurized helmet and the taller fighter stumbled back, sinking once more into the gas while he could.

“Not one for chatter, huh?” muttered the Sith. “Come on, this tournament is supposed to be fun, trash talk a little.”

“Just here for the win.”

Another shot impacted Beskar before a snarl of frustration escaped the area, but it was quickly overwhelmed by a different sound as Titius quickly ran out of the gas before this time purposefully jumping into the water, the sloshing hard to ignore. Or it would have been, save for the immediate explosion that scattered and cleared the remaining gas.

A roar of pain was the sound that let out after that as well as another torrent of water that indicated a large object landing in it. As Kindle clenched his eyes shut in pain and pulled himself back onto his feet, he could feel a portion of his chest plate dented inward from the air pressure that slammed into him and additionally bits of metal shards logged into the vulnerable joints of the Hybrid.

Clearly the strategy of getting your opponent talking his master had taught him wasn’t going to work here…

Opening his golden eyes and looking around, he noted the lack of a standing foe and brought his halberd to his side once more. He kept a tight grip and a watchful eye, waiting for the right moment, coming up with his own plan in hopes of countering his enemy’s. The warrior was done playing his enemy’s game.

Another explosion, though much softer, went off behind him and resulted in the warrior spinning round to see the commotion, only to see that the water displacement was followed by a small amount of black smoke rising - a smoke grenade, a diversion.

As Titius erupted from the water far closer to Singean than he had initial suspected within the swamp’s water, having taken advantage of its murkiness to hide himself, he found that indeed the Proconsul had formed his own plan independent of whatever he had done; as Darkness itself enveloped the area around the two and hid them both, though the sounds of the Mercenary’s blaster fire echoed in the area in an attempt to land anything.

Osseus scoffed, mildly entertained that both of them had gone for vision-blocking diversions, but he continued to step backwards, blaster at the ready, trying to make some distance.

Unfortunately for him, the Hybrid was not blinded thanks to his Darksight training.

Taking the few moments he could, Kindle focused on the Human’s mind and searched before finally he found what he was after. Mentally pulling the trigger as he leapt into the air, the Sith’s Darkness faded and instead a lightning-fast infliction of Debilitating Fear was spiked into his enemy’s mind. Just one moment of hesitation, that’s all he needed as he brought his halberd over his head with the intention of using his full might to slam it down and end this battle in one blow.

The Proconsul got his wish, as Titius indeed did not fire his blaster at the sudden appearance of the airborne reptilian man dropping onto him. Rather, he instead quickly moved his hand down to his belt and activated the gravity grenade at his side.

Blue energy wrapped around the two combatants and held them tight; Kindle slammed his feet-first down onto the ground with his halberd poisoned to separate the human’s arm from the rest of him and Titius with his gun aimed for the neck of his armored foe, ready to blast at what few weak points he could.

Both stared into one another's eyes as they anxiously awaited the end of the grenade’s battery life and the following handful of seconds that would tell how this battle would also meet its conclusion.

The grenade sparked as it finally relinquished its hold on the duo. Kindle sent his halberd in a wide arc, its length closing the meager distance in a blink. The sudden release made the swing to long alowing Titius to catch the haft behind the blade. A dull crunch still sent the mercenary sideways but failed to cleave him twain. Kindle reversed his power to pull the weapon back but Titius grabbed hold with both hands. The added weight drove Kindle into the mud as he heaved. Titius held on like a rabid canine and went overhead as pure might sent the halberd upward. A heavy spray washed accross Kindle's shoulders as halberd and its passenger hit the water behind.

"Geeeeet OFF." howled the hybrid, his irritation turning to rage at the insignificant fart desecrating his weapon. The halberd heaved overhead and Titius came back into view. Mud splattered the surroundings as the now biological mace hit the ground again. Still the mercenary held on. Kindle was starting to shake from his anger and heaved faster.

Back. Splash Forth. Splat Back. Splash Forth. Splat Back. Splash Forth. Splat Back. Splash Forth. Splat

Finally, Titius relinquished his hold and lay in the mud. Kindle was heaving in air, his energy depleted from hauling around extra cargo. He pulled on the halberd to deal a killing blow and...

The halberd slid pathetically across the mud. Titius rolled his head to watch the blade dig a trench away from him. Kindle brought the halberd behind, drew a large breath and...

CRUNCH

Titius tried to scream as his entire ribcage collapsed under the weight of the hybrid falling on him. There was no air left as Kindle huffed, "Wow, I need a nap after that."

Kindle’s breath turned ragged as he struggled against the gravity grenade’s forces. It was taking all his strength to keep the halberd held aloft, as he knew with its current positioning that it would miss if it slammed down now. His one consolidation was that his opponent also was fighting against it; his blaster shaking in his grip as he attempted to keep it on target.

After what felt like an eternity, suddenly Titius’ left leg gave way and the man dropped to his knee. Beneath Kindle’s helmet his brow furrowed, immediately calculating in his head the new change in angle, but then the blue energy flickered for just a moment and in that moment, the rest of Titius’ body fell to the left with increased speed right before the effect ended.

Utilizing that speed, the Human tumbled to the side faster than Kindle's swing, a loud splash of water the Sith's only reward for the calculated attack.

Taking no time to gloat about his calculated timing, Titius shot several blaster bolts in succession at the Mando, the hits slamming into him like repeated punches and knocking him to his knees within the swamp water. Quickly adjusting his aim, he continued firing, but this time into a shield as Kindle activated the one he had equipped.

Grabbing his halberd, the Hybrid turned to dash out of the water and backed towards the nearby foliage, ducking behind a nearby tree as his shield deactivated.

Stepping forward to follow Singean's movements, Titius' own helmet gave none of his thoughts or emotions away. For better or worse, the direction he was looking and the turn of his blaster was Kindle's only indicator of what he was planning next - and he had learned the hard way that the weapon's scope wasn't as helpful an indicator as it would be for most.

"I'll give you credit, doing pretty good handling the up close and personal stuff for a guy with only ranged weapons," complimented the Proconsol from a distance.

"Oh I've got some on me, I just haven't needed them yet. Gotta say, not smart bringing nothing ranged."

Titius stopped his tracking of Kindle's original path, the new direction of the sound making it clear his target had moved more. His helmet shifted as he tried to pin down the enemy's location. Clearly the man was bad at stealth and couldn't keep his mouth shut, the Human needed him to keep talking.

"I'm just a firm believer in looking your enemy in the eye, what can I say," Kindle responded to the taunt, giving Titius another clue to his direction. "Honestly, I give you that you're smarter than me. Personally, I do better learning from others."

Abruptly a wave of familiar blue energy erupted from the water around Titius and once more the gravity increased, a grunt escaping the man's lips as he fought to remain standing within the field. Clearly at some point during the Hybrid's loud run, he had dropped his own surprise into the water.

"Like your idea of using the water to hide your main weapon and using the gravity grenade once I had gotten too close. Sometimes I forget I carry one, but I've never been great at explosives, I just set the timer and let it do its thing, never really thought about activating it early."

Once again the roar of a jetpack scared away any chance of curious creatures from approaching the pair and Kindle launched himself into the air, halberd raised then quickly dropping down as he closed the distance. Amplifying his already great strength, determined to win if only not to indulge this cat and mouse game anymore, he slammed the flat side of the blade into the Human's helmet and sent him collapsing into the murky depths as his own form slammed hard into the mud.

After a minute, his grenade also ran out of energy and he felt himself able to move normally. Reaching into the water, he grabbed his unconscious foe and hoisted him out as he looked around. He could have just left him floating there for the officials to get ahold of, but Kindle had heard of the kind of things that lurked within this swamp and while they may have been scared away temporarily by the fight's noises and lights, he wasn't going to leave easy prey for any who came to investigate now that it was quieting down.
