Dathomir Desolate Swamp

Once, it was the home to the witches of Dathomir, otherwise known as the Nightsisters. Tucked away in from the rest of the galaxy in an isolated cluster, the Nightsisters were able to draw energy from the planet itself, and pursued a type of ritualistic magic. They ruled over the population of Zabarak—Nightbrothers—and used them as a warrior caste to serve their purposes.

Then, the Clone Wars. The Nightsisters were pulled into the conflict due to the machinations of Mother Talzin and her rival Darth Sidious. This ultimately lead to the eradication of the Dathomarians and their settlements. The desolation was claimed by the Confederacy of Independent Systems after the last Nightsiser fell.

Now, the planet known as Dathomir is a haunted skeleton of its former greatness. A perpetual crimson glow coats the planet. The bleak world has become an amalgamation of ruined forest, decrepit swamplands, and withered mountains worn to the sands of time.

In the desolate swamps, faint echoes haunt the graves of the long-dead witches, infusing the green fog that spreads above the damp ground. Dreadful whispers rumoured to be lingering incantations defend the world from intruders. Tall tales and rumors of zombies and ritual sacrifice alluding to grisly flashes of imagery.

The trees, large and misshapen, promise misery to those who touch their tortured bark and open themselves to the memories of the place. Eerie as the voices over the wind, the water beneath the fog appears red and bubbling, as if the land itself were pockmarked in cauldrons of blood to keep the incantations alive.

Creatures unaffected by the purge of the Nightsisters still remain. Snakes, reptiles and insects of varying lethality wander the wasteland. Reports have even said that rancor still roam freely.

This is Dathomir.

Tisto blazed across the red covered expanse of the planet, having hit his top speed of 700 kilometers per hour over an hour ago. He smiled as Raiju flew right behind him, though the Nautolan seemed to be far less capable a swoop pilot than Tisto. The Kiffar hit the breaks and gave a sharp turn, slowing to a halt. Raiju instead slowed himself, not trusting himself enough to try out what Tisto was doing.

"Tisto," the Vangaurd started, "we need to talk."

Tisto hopped off from his swoop, giving a small half smile. "I figured that. You are one of the newest Knights, and one of the only few not already on Nar Shaddaa. If this is about me not following my own orders, I will be on the smugglers moon in a few days. Just..."

"That is not what I mean," Raiju said sharply. "I know what its like living with criminals Tisto. Do you really think you are ready to lead the team?"

"Zoso and Liam put their faith in me to do this job," Tisto replied, his arms crossed over his chest. "I pulled us through the war on Florrum, and the Battle of Tanduran. I am more than qualified."

"Stop lying to yourself," Raiju said fiercely, his anger at everything that had happened recently getting to him. "Zoso died, and Liam is missing. As is Gui. The girl you seem to be with all the time, she lost her right hand on your watch. We lost the war, and what do you do? You send us to Nar Shaddaa."

"Leave Bell out of this!" Tisto said, his arms unfolding and lightsaber suddenly in hand.

Raiju pulled his saber into his hand using the Force. He ignited it, its orange blade flaring to life with a hiss. Tisto gave a cocky smile, and ignited his blade. His saber came to life, roaring like a swoop engine. Raiju stepped back, his anger giving way to confusion, lightsabers didn't sound like that.

"Get in line Raiju," Tisto said, his voice barely loud enough for the Nautolan to hear. "Or I will make you."

Raiju charged, yelling. Tisto met the Nautolan head on, lashing out with a quick series of strikes. The Vangaurd dodged two, then slammed his blade into the incoming crimson saber. Tisto's attack was sent wide, giving way to his far stronger opponent. Then, two close to bring his saber to bear, Raiju elbowed Tisto in the throat. The Kiffar fell to his knees.

"Step down from Knight Commander and hand the job over to someone competent," Raiju said furiously, his saber at Tisto's throat.

Tisto called on the Force, pushing Raiju's saber to the side, and threw himself forward, his head smacking into the Nautolans chest. Raiju prepared to knock the Kiffar away when the ground shook. The combatant paused, and looked behind Raiju.

It was the Rancor they had heard about when they arrived on the planet.
