Competition: Daybreak- Who is Running? Union NPC Creation

Finished
Daybreak- Who is Running? Union NPC Creation

With the Shipwrights Guilds attempted assassination of the governor of Hoth, and the temporary ban placed on the organization, the union of Shipwrights was formed in Kaal to keep those workers employed and in good health. The Union has grown to cover all those civilians doing any work relating to starships in Kaal, from running freight, to repair, to maintenance of the Starport, to actual ship construction. As a result, the Union managed to make it on to the council. With the arrival of the Shipwrights Guild into Kaal's politics, the two organizations have found themselves clashing in heated debate and occasional bouts of violence.

With all that, who did the Union of Shipwrights chose to represent their interests on the Council? It is your job as a member of Hoth to provide a dossier on this individual so we know who we are working with moving on.

The Details-

  • The NPC you design, while sitting on the Hoth Council, must be an “average” member of the faction, and their skills should reflect that. In Brotherhood rank terms, they would be considered Journeymen, or possibly low-level Equites.

  • Your entry must include a name, apparent age, physical description, and a description of the character’s skills and abilities. The total length of the submission must be fewer than 500 words. You may not use your own characters for this competition, even those who aren’t technically “Brotherhood members”.

  • You may submit your entry as a .doc or .pdf file, or via the website text box. Google Docs links will not be accepted. Do NOT submit CS sandbox codes.

  • Character images are allowed but not required, and if included, must be sourced according to the Brotherhood’s Fair Use Policy.

  • Entries will be graded on the competition’s prompt and rules, creativity, and realism. Ties will be broken by judge preference.

Calla Dorne – The Efficient Advocate
Physical Description: Calla Dorne is a lean and sharp-featured human with a cybernetic ocular implant that enhances her vision. She looks to be in her early 40s. She wears a navy-blue jacket with the emblem of the Union on her sleeve, and is typically found carrying a datapad and employing a calculating gaze that often puts others on edge.
Skills & Abilities: An expert in logistics and supply chain management, Calla strives to ensure that shipbuilders, haulers, and maintenance crews get what they need on time—and without excess cost. As a demonstrated dealmaker, Calla has a history of smoothing tensions between rival factions while at the same time advancing the Union’s goals. She is a former freighter captain who understands the grind of the industry and the razor-thin margins that many in her field are forced to work under. She relies heavily on a network of droids for real-time logistical maneuvering, fleet tracking, and contract analysis—an efficiency that gives her the edge in business but unsettles many traditional haulers who distrust automation in decision-making.
Calla is diplomatic but calculating, at all times thinking several moves ahead. She’s practical, preferring efficiency over sentiment, and as such has little patience for outdated methods or resistance to technological advancements. While she genuinely fights for workers’ rights and fair pay, her reliance on droid-driven logistics makes her a controversial figure. Some see her as an inevitable or even necessary symbol of modernization; others fear that she might be operating under a hidden agenda that pushes the industry towards overautomation at the expense of sentient jobs.
In council meetings Calla presents herself as unflappable and pragmatic, quick to fall back on data to support her arguments. While she rarely raises her voice, there’s a quiet steel in her demeanor that makes people think twice before attempting to push her around. Those who earn her trust find her a powerful ally—if they can keep track of her longhaul political strategies.
