CNS Consul Report #24 - December 30th, 2006

I've always thought the "New Year" frenzy that people go through is kinda stupid. People are under the impression that because one arbitrarily determined day has passed, somehow they're born anew. I'm pretty sure 2007 will be no different than 2006. Ironically, I play down the end of the year, and yet in my blog I do a "End of Year" entry. Meh.

Total CON Emails: 35

  1. Kat Pridemore stepping down

It is with a heavy heart that we learn that Kat Pridemore is stepping down. It does make me sad, because it just won't be the same without her. I was very comfortable with her as the Proconsul, and now there's going to be a void.

I am not going to make any immediate decisions regarding Proconsul. This is very complicated business, and there's a lot I have to think through. In fact, I might go without a Proconsul for a while.

  1. House Feud Over

I already mentioned this last week, but as you can see from the emails, House Ludo Kressh has essentially won. It was a fairly close result, which is the one thing I was hoping for. Early on in this House Feud, people seemed to be becoming divisive over the House Feud, and that was the LAST thing I wanted out of this. However, towards the end it didn't seem to be so bad.

The fact of the matter is, if you look at the participation, it was one of those situations where one person might have delivered 500 points here or there, wildly swinging the results. It's like how CNS did with the Great Jedi War, "If X and done Y, things would have been different." In the end, HLK might have won the feud, but what kind of victory is it? It goes both ways. You're both decent houses, and that is that.

I still have to grade the runons, and I'm about a quarter of the way through the HLK one. I'm sure that right after I submit this report, a flood of crescents and things will arrive.

  1. Promotions

Oran Gootan has been promoted to Guardian! yay!

  1. Medals

I was awarded a Steel Cross for awesome participation in the Inter-Club Training Event for 2006.

Vladek was awarded an Anteian Cross for being super-active lately. Don't worry Vladek, you'll become a DJK soon enough. Enjoy your "three vowels in a row" award for now. Very hard to spell.

  1. Gaming

Well, the big news was that I finally crossed my 1000 Cluster of Fire goal for 2006. I already wrote an email about this, so let's talk about the rest of gaming.

In last Saturday's ICTE, I got 163 CFs, Aticus got 22 CFs, Ylith got 17 CFs, Xayun got 15 CFs, Vladek got 10 CFs, and Schisca got 3 CFs. I took second in the ICTE and got an Amethyst Crescent because of it.

In Tuesday and Thursday gaming, PRT Naga Magnus got a combined 5 CFs. Nice to see the new members participating in gaming nights.

  1. Conclusion

I was thinking about the past year. In January I was just an ordinary member like you guys, and here I am today. I can't say it was the smoothest ride ever, and there were situations that made me wonder why I even bother in this club. I still don't think everything has been solved. There are still lingering issues.

Obviously this clan put forward its strongest effort ever, and its best performance ever in a Great Jedi War this summer. Will we top that, or will we even perform as well during the next Great Jedi War? I don't know. We might have peaked. Nothing lasts forever. Forgive me, I just watched that spielberg "Artificial Intelligence" movie, which is quite depressing.

I'd be quite content if CNS continued to get at least 3rd in DB competitions. The thing is, our performance in such competitions really depends on whether or not the right people happen to be in the clan at the time of the competition. There's a certain amount of chance involved in our performance. It's a wonder why I was stressing out over it in the first place. I guess I wanted to be the first Consul to lead CNS to victory in a Great Jedi War. I got close enough though, and I'm satisfied, so whatever happens in the future, I'm happy to know that everything came together at the right moment this year.

More important than any of that, I want CNS to be the kind, wonderful group of people that we are. I've been feeling a little detached, and things seem a little cold on IRC, and I don't know why that is or how to solve that. Of course, I'm not on IRC as much as I used to be.

So there you have it. Your cliched end of year message.
