Clan Notes

Random quote of the week

(Since it’s election season in the USA)

“I'll run just once — and just for the hell of it. I'll select the most qualified vice-presidential candidate possible just in case something strange happens and I win. After I'm sworn in I hang around long enough to sign an Executive Order requiring all airport screeners to have graduated in the top one-half of their high school class. Then I'll free all non-violent drug offenders, take a few spins on Air Force One and get to know the interns. Then I'll resign and let the vice president take the controls.”

-Neal Boortz, talk radio host and author

Clan Competition

By far the most important thing going on right now is the clan competition. The run-on is going well (see next section for some important details), with more people joining in each day it seems. I’ve received a few other submissions, but not as many as I’d hoped.

So, after some thought, a big change in how the competition is running: every event is going to be open until we finish the run-on. Remember, though, that the run-on is going to be limited in the number of posts allowed. There’s still a bit of time, though we could possibly go through the 66 or so remaining open posts very quickly.

Please, please contact myself or Doni if you need any ideas. You can also talk with the other participants to see what their ideas are. I do have a general idea, but as I’ve noted before, the plot is flexible enough to handle some new, though related, situations.

For example, I had never thought of the food and water shortages, or military equipment being stolen, but it happened, and we’ve adjusted.

Keep up the good work, and let’s make this competition and especially the run-on, a success.

Run-on Specifics

Rekio was kind enough to point out some inconsistencies in the run-on. While things such as this are to be expected (it is the nature of run-ons, as best we try to avoid it), we should correct them. So, for your information:

The platform in the story is the unnamed DC platform at the edge of the Yridia system, not the Aegis. The platform, for the time being, needs to remain intact.

Telona is, according to her own posts, on the Sword’s Sheath, so that is where she needs to remain until the story moves her out of it.

Additional sabotage, while perhaps an interesting development, should be kept to more public targets. And, total destruction isn’t a likely goal; disruption of the normal government activities is more of what is going on. For example, there was only one poisoned food and water shipment, meaning the rest are ok. However, this automatically puts a backlog on orders and deliveries, meaning limited supply. Limited supply means increased ration restrictions, as well as increased cost of goods (basic supply and demand).

The admiral mentioned in my last post (#9) is not referring to any member of the clan; it is an NPC that I will introduce in the near future (ok, so Rekio didn't point this one out, but I had received a few questions on it, so just for everyone's info)

AWOL Checks

I know Gladius is running an e-mail based AWOL check. This is fine for the interim, but I know I’ve told everyone that just responding to a random AWOL check via e-mail is not sufficient. It may save your rear end for the short term, but you won’t get by with it all the time.

Here’s the long and short of it: inactive members drain the morale of unit leaders, as well as those active people on the same roster. This leads to an overall decrease in activity, which makes the DB less fun. My solution is simple: inactive members get to go. Those that have earned the right to remain on the roster will be moved out of a house.

If you’re going to be gone more than a few days, use the Leave of Absence feature under your administration options.

Speaking of AWOL checks and such, the clan mailing list will be updated after the competition, and after the rosters have been trimmed a bit.

Welcoming New Members

Fictional Updates

The clan continues to encounter a series of problems, including theft of military supplies, refugee overcrowding, and poisoning of food and water shipments. Perhaps strangest of all is the sudden cut off in communications with the Sword’s Sheath, the home base of Gladius.

Meanwhile, Anshar has dispatched Dranik, his most trusted aide and assistant, to investigate the other worlds in the Minos Cluster, which are also experiencing riots in their refugee populations.

Though no one has taken credit, it is believe that there is an organized effort under way to destabilize the clan.
