New Proconsul

After much deliberation, and much consulting and discussions with several members, I have selected Oberst to be the next Proconsul. Oberst has the skills and experience, and I fully believe that he will help lead us to victory in the GJW.

The Great Jedi War

Recently, I e-mailed the house leaders my vision for everything that we, both as the leaders and as a clan, needed to do to ensure a great result in the GJW. While there are actions that the leadership alone can take to influence things, everyone can play an important part.

I’m only asking two things from each and every one of you: try to have fun and participate in all that you can. Great Jedi Wars are the event, the Super Bowl, World Cup, and World Series of the DB, so to speak.

I know many of you have never participated in a Great Jedi War. Definitely give it a shot. It can be intimidating on some levels; I understand this. But, if you put forth your best effort, then you will know that you tried. Make it your goal to win an event. Don’t be afraid that you’re not going to win.

First off, I helped judge in the last Great Jedi War, both the run-ons and the fiction events. While there were certainly some outstanding entries, most were mid to lower range on the scale; I’m sure many of you would be able to surpass them. Furthermore, you never know when your effort will pay off. Here’s my own personal example:

I’m not one to brag on myself, but if you look at my dossier, you’ll notice that I do have plenty of awards, including some of the higher up awards like the Ruby Scepter. But, out of all the awards I’ve received, you know what my favorite one is? My single Gold Nova. Why? Because I beat everyone else in the Brotherhood in a Great Jedi War event. It was unexpected, but I won it. That was back in 2003, and it still my favorite award to date.

Make no mistake about it: I aspire for nothing less than first place for the clan. And make no mistake about this: each and every one of you can play a vital part in our victory.

Great Jedi War Helpers

Numerous members of the clan have already volunteered to help out with this project, but anyone is welcome to offer their assistance. Basically, from now and through the Great Jedi War, we’re going to have members helping people qualify in the ACC. Also, if anyone needs help (especially during the GJW) with proof reading fiction entries, at the very least for grammar and spelling, I will be willing to help, and I’m sure others will. For the run-on, we will have an active discussion thread where you can toss out ideas, partial posts, etc. for feedback and assistance.

If you are interested in helping with any training/inter GJW assistance, please e-mail me so I can compile one list to the clan. BF and a few others have already offered to help people qualify in the ACC.

Character Sheets

The new character sheets are out. Yes, they are still working through a few bugs, but by and large these things work pretty well so far. I’ll admit that I was a little hesitant about them when I heard about them, but they seem pretty cool. Exactly what role these will play in the GJW and beyond is still up in the air, but I’m sure we’ll find out more as things progress.

Clan Competitions

To keep everyone active and provide a nice break from finals, work, or whatever else you having going on, there will be a few things coming soon. Sephiroth will be running a short fiction event and Oberst has another war scenario coming. Both will release their details soon.

Real Life Notes

Work is work… grocery retail during the Christmas season is always busy, and next week will definitely be very busy. This week has actually been a bit slow because, I believe, people are saving up their money, or waiting to get paid (teachers in particular will get paid before Christmas, rather than at the end of the month like normal).

The new computer kicks ass and I really like the 24 inch monitor. Why get it so big? Because I could :P

Enjoy the rest of week, and I will be sending out a short e-mail next week, but this is the only week of the year I get three days off without being sick or working 12-13 hours days.
