Consul Report

Random Quote

"Get to gettin' before I whoop you."

Quick real life note

I just wanted to let everyone know that work has been somewhat hellish as of late with the loss of our grocery manager. This week, I’m having to do six days (four full days, and two half days) because they abruptly sprung a meeting on my boss for Tuesday. So, that’s why I’ve not been around as much, but things will die down once we get a new grocery manager, and no more random meetings :P

The Great Jedi War

It’s just two weeks away (13 days to precise). I’ve been promoting it pretty much from day one because I want us to do well as a clan. My reasons for this are large in number, ranging from the fact I want you guys to have fun (and winning/doing well is more fun than not) to getting the clan more points to spend on new ships.

This clan has made great progress over my time as Consul, and it is largely in thanks to the efforts of everyone here. Your response to the efforts of your house leaders, and clan wide projects, has been great. As I’m certain many senior members of the clan can attest to, it is hard for us to remain motivated when the membership isn’t responding.

Remember, the GJW will have all sorts of activities. And, if things go the way I anticipate they will, expect a very drastic event to happen in clan.

GJW Run-on

Since becoming Consul, I’ve never wavered from my belief that a better and stronger clan run-on would have greatly helped the clan last time, perhaps even pushing us into third place. That being said, I’m following up Oberst’s writing tips (all of which apply; we just have multiple writers) with some run-on specific tips. These will be reiterated when we get a GJW sub-forum, but here are some things that I’ve noticed in various run-ons that I’ve had to judge. I’m sure I’ve said some of these before, but they bear repeating, especially for newer members:

  1. Alarm Clock syndrome: Don’t waste a post with waking up, getting dressed, arming yourself, and going to the meeting location. Next thing you know, you’ve got 10-15 posts that don’t move the story one bit. And trust me, judges hate this kind of stuff (as I put it to Muz during the last GJW judging, “get dressed, go to my personal super ship, and fly to the meeting down the hall.”)

  2. The Power Ratio: Pay close attention to how those stronger than you react and deal with the enemy. Oberst is big, strong Dark Adept who is well versed in personal combat and the Force… if he writes that he’s having trouble against just one Vong, the amount of trouble you should have with just one Vong should increase inversely with your rank (the lower your rank, the harder it is for you).

  3. Details are Important, to an extent: Not everything needs to be fully described, like your lightsaber’s intricate grip. On the other hand, if you reference an event from another run-on, include just enough detail so that the judge(s) aren’t left wondering what you’re talking about.

Remember, these are all issues I’ve seen in various run-ons, and every single one of them ended up hurting the run-on more than helping it.

Recruitment

Just a word about recruitment, as I’m sure I’m bound to get questioned about this again. Recruitment from other clans is prohibited. We can open the door for someone, but don’t ask them to leave their current clan. And here’s the reason why I bring this up: we’ve recently had two members request transfers to this clan, and both worded their reasons in a manner that could cause suspicion of recruitment. And when someone requests a transfer, their current leaders get the same e-mail I do, so they know about it, and how they phrased their transfer request.

Promotions

Since my last clan notes, the following members have been promoted:

Scion to Dark Jedi Knight

Dralin to Dark Jedi Knight

Jaron to Jedi Hunter

Mechronage to Novice

Clan Arrivals

Since my last clan notes, the following members have joined the clan:

Daniel Antarres joined House Cestus

Mechronage joined House Gladius

Minstro and Seth Wolfe joined House Tridens

Concluding Comments

There are a few house competitions floating about, but other than that, there’s not much going on. For now, I recommend that you read through the run-ons the clan has done over the past year (found on the message boards), as events that happened in these will influence in some form or fashion events in the clan during the GJW.

Other than that, have a good week, be safe, and remain ready to kick the other clans all over the place.
