Consul Report

My friends,

Haha, What a ride. The GJW is into it's third week (and so it's not so confusing, they're calling it week 2), We've had site issues that Orv has handled with panache and aplomb. Sarin's stepped down, Muz has been made the new GM (arcona voted yes for that, btw) and the GJW has kicked off. The Storyline thus far has been twisty - turns out we're not taking on the Vong but some jedi with droids who've already cleared out the scarfaces. The full story can be found here on the GJW site - it's long, but a good read. We've come a long way, dudes. We've been preparing and the other clans would have us languishing in last place - we showed them :P

What results we've seen so far have been encouraging: We won the BP, Came 2nd in the fiction (woot to strat for getting in the top ten!), Came 3rd in the SA event (btw, BRILLIANT work to our SA powerhouses who have been raking in the mavens!) Came 4th in the Codebreaking event, and our gamers have been clearing house! Just take a look at the Skirmish 2 results if you don't know what I'm talking about =P

That said, I also owe you all an apology. Whilst you've been chugging away participating, I should have been more visible as a leader in particular last week. Rest assured, I'll be around more for the rest of the GJW.

Now, onto a breakdown of the current events.

Comps:

As you all know, the GJW is ongoing - a full listing of the events can be found on the GJW site here . They're broken up into categories:

  • Gaming

Gaming Events: All of them need to be arranged in #dbgaming, max of 3 matches per platform per opponent a day. Don't dodge or I'll hit you.

Week 2 Gaming Event - In Whose Favour?

2v1 gaming event. It's ongoing for the rest of Week 2. It's an open and shut one, this event. If you can find two other people to face you and reckon you have the cojones to take them down, go for it. Likewise, if you reckon you and a clanmate can tear down some non-arconan, same story.

Skirmishing Event Continued

This is the last week of this event, and we're already holding our own. standard 1v1 on any platform supported by the DB. Find an opponent in #dbgaming and beat the shit through them. Easy.

Mistaken Identity Continued

Team Gaming. Any of you familiar with gaming will know about this phenomenom. You and some mates challenge some other guys and have a big fight. It's a little hard to get together if you're not Taldryan as they've already dominated in this event.

  • Fiction

Thanks in advance to Tim for these little tidbits, and here they are:

Run-on Event Continued

This event is large, it is worth 14% of the points in this event...and it is scored on the amount of participants. That means that the more people do at least two or three posts, the more our Runon will not just be awesome, but will also give us a fair shot at winning the event. The posts need not be long and they need not be large...they just need to be there.

Heat of the Moment (ACC)

It's started! This event already has twice as many fights as the co-op. In particular, I'd like to thank Vorion, Zandro, and Legorii for a million fights each. However, we can all do more. If you're afraid of getting bogged down with ACC events, remember that you've got a whole three days on each post, so you can stretch out your fights if you want to, and you need not have more than two.

Fiction Event - Chasing the Ghost

Another fiction for this week and damn is it large. Luckily, you have two weeks to finish this five-pager. And since this is a five-pager, it means fewer people will take the trouble to write a story, which means that there's a bigger chance for top 10, prize money, and hot girls/guys as groupies.

Battlefield Objectives (ACC Co-op)

This event is done for us, by now. Vorion still has one more post to do, but I hear he's all but wrapped that up, as well. Congratulations to all you amazing writers who participated (you know who you are).

  • Misc

These are the space filler events that nevertheless still give us a fair ammount of points. Here's the breakdown.

Week 2 Event - Effects of War

Your usual graphics event. Needs to be 500x500 pixels and in .jpeg. Most of us won't have the skill to get together a decent-looking entry, but do not let this dissuade you. Pretty much everyone is just whacking something together on paint and sending a quick rushed job in. Participation can't hurt, guys. Don't be intimidated by an unfamiliar field, just get those submissions in.

And for those of you who want to throw out a semi-decent GFX with minimal effort, there's always Terragen:

http://www.planetside.co.uk/terragen/win/downloadwin.shtmlThis software is handy and easy to use, and can get you a good-looking picture in less than an hour's time. And that's including the reading through this brilliant tutorial at:http://www.caroluk.org.uk/terratut/ In short: fire up the program and tutorial, grab a selected part of Antei from http://www.darkjedibrotherhood.com/wiki/index.php?title=Antei , and start creating awesome pictures with almost no effort at all!

Trivia Event - Briefings

You do this via the GJW site and are timed on it, so don't start it unless you're sure you can do it all in one sitting. The questions are usually GJW related, so refer to Tirna's helpful email for links on the past plot updates and the GJW plotline available on the GJW site to answer all the questions. This is a nifty little event for us, as it requires no 'skill' to complete, just the ability to work a web browser and seldom takes more than 30 minutes, so I expect a LOT of you to participate in this little gem.

Shadow Academy Event - Instruction

Your objective is to earn as many Dark Mavens as possible. The requirements for Dark Mavens are listed on the DBWiki, but the vast majority just require you to pass a certain number of selected SA exams with a score above 85%. It's running for a while, however I've seen a blizzard of participation so far, so if you complete the other events, have posted in the RO and can't find anything else to do, I strongly advise you just have a stab at an SA course or two that will help you towards a Dark Maven.

Codebreaking Event - Ambush

This event, like the trivia, has to be worked through the GJW site. It's often the most overlooked, as at a first glance it can be a bitch, however I long ago learned the art of googleage. Google Cipher tools and I promise you, you'll sail through this event.

That about wraps it up for events. If you need any additional questions answered, just gimme a shout and I'll be glad to help.

Tasks:

Other than GJW participation, my time running up to the GJW when the site was down was taken up with creating ATRs for every active member of the clan. The QUAs have been given operational control over them, so be sure to CC them on any activity you do. I'm focused on the GJW - I know I'm not the best example to follow - I'm dramatic, I'm emotional, I'm flawed, I'm sarcastic, cynical, far from the best writer, a sub-par gamer, but I love this clan. I know a lot of you do too. Let's be a clan, and OWN this.

RL:

Just...don't ask.

As always, if you have any comments or questions, get back to me on IRC or via [Log in to view e-mail addresses].

Thanks Arcona,
