Consul Report

_"I swear upon my life that I will be faithful and strong for my King. Shall never do Him harm. Shall observe my homage to him. Wage war upon His enemies and to send protection and troops at His command. To hold in His name this fief until He commands otherwise or I fall."

"Then rise, Princess, and serve me well."

Long live Tarentum._

Hey, everyone, and welcome to a new era of Tarentum: New houses, new leaders, new Proconsul, new Consul. I apologize for the rather meager fictional offering at the beginning of this report; I have begun writing official fiction for the clan's upcoming storyline, which I will send out in my next report.

For those of you who don't know me, my DB name in full is Ronovi Tavisaen Tarentae, and I'm your new Consul. I was just recently made the newest Tarentae, and I became the head honcho of Tarentum just two days ago after Oberst's resignation. I'd like everyone to take a moment to thank Oberst for all the work he did for the clan as Consul. And of course, for those of you who do know me...no, I'm not insane yet.

Replacing me as Proconsul is Ji K'awiil, former Quaestor of the recently closed House Cestus. Everyone please welcome him to the clan summit and congratulate him on his new position. He will be my second-in-command and will be alternating reports with me biweekly, so you'll see the same sort of format in his reports that I used in my previous PCON reports.

We do have a lot to cover in this report, so let's keep it snappy.

Our house project is nearly complete. There are still a few wiki articles need to be edited and polished up, including all three articles of our recently closed houses. However, our RM of Fiction is currently finishing up final exams, so no hassling him on it. The articles for House Kaerner and House Reinthaler, as well as most of their battle teams, have been created and will be edited with coming fiction. We still need an article for Battle Team Zurhidon, so Dox, if you could get on that even it means creating a Zurhidon page merely as a placeholder, that'd be great.

Ji and I will be opening up monthly talks with our house leaders on IRC. This way, we can keep everyone updated and refreshed on the happenings of the clan so no one is left in the dark. In this way also, we'll be able to get BTLs directly talking with their appropriate RMs (Fiction or Gaming) in order to jointly work with them on fiction and gaming projects for their teams and the entire clan as a whole.

I guess I'll take the time to reiterate what Oberst said in his last CON report that RMs are no longer activity archivists but our own Fiction and Gaming Tribunes. Aediles, you will be responsible for documenting all members' activity, with the help of your BTLs. Quaestors, you will be responsible for getting newcomers into the appropriate googlegroups and sending them welcome e-mails.

I'm sure many of you are curious to see what Ji and I have in mind regarding new storylines for the clan. The truth is, we only have vague ideas so far, as they're not very detailed yet. We want to be able to get every leader involved in fiction talks, in order to avoid the possibility of dictating the plots and events of our clan's new history to such a point that no one can creatively add to the lore. We want each story in our clan to be inclusive, and not too complex, in order to get every member involved and having fun.

In terms of run-ons, I have particular plans to make them less frequent, even though I admire the efforts of past clan leaders to make them more prominent in clan functions. While I know houses and battle teams can coordinate them, run-ons take a lot of time, a lot of people, a lot of effort, and a lot of patience and cooperation. That being said, once a run-on is finished, there is a particular atmosphere of creative exhaustion from the clan, making it difficult to involve them in future, even if smaller, fiction competitions and gaming challenges for some time. Therefore, Ji and I agree that official run-ons should only be done clan-wide, once a year. However, that's not to say that you and a few of your friends can't have your own little run-ons just for fun - it's just that they wouldn't be a part of a unit's official lore and they wouldn't be competition-based.

We are expecting to have a clan story arc, complete with run-on, done every six months of the year. The other six months will be used to focus on clan and house duties, as well as continuing fiction and gaming efforts. The ideas for story arcs go all over the map - I have thrown around the idea of an NPC-only run-on as well as the idea of a comedic run-on where we can completely ignore the typical rules we normally set out. What I want to emphasize is the concept that run-ons do not always have to be serious, and they do not always have to be strictly added to clan lore. They may also be used for fun exercises for the entire clan, in order for its members to be even better RO writers once vendettas roll around.

What I need from you guys is your opinion on how our clan powers should be established in our lore. A few months back, we were given Smoke Demons and Rakghouls as our clan powers. People have used these powers in the ACC, but before I write the appropriate wiki article on them, I want to know what the popular opinion is on them. Should we incorporate these powers fully into our clan lore and practices - as in, should we have buildings or bases devoted to the craft, and see these powers affect which direction our clan is headed in terms of its rituals? Or should these clan powers simply be established as just that - powers we can freely use as if they were another Force ability? Respond to this e-mail with your opinion, and Ji and I will take it into account.

Raiju has also expressed his concern about Tarenti, especially newcomers, getting confused when certain past storylines are referenced in our current story arcs. Therefore, I am offering a chance for you all to volunteer to assist him in creating wiki pages strictly for detailing our most popular storylines and run-ons. "In the Shadows," "Settling Home," "To the Core," "Of the Past," and "Broken" are just some of the storylines that would be explained in these wiki articles. If you are interested in helping out, e-mail Raiju at [Log in to view e-mail addresses]. Chances are, you will be rewarded for your extra efforts.

Finally, similar to what Muz did with his forum thread, "Ask the Grand Master;" I will be answering one to two of your questions in each report I distribute. If you think you have a particularly good question to ask me, e-mail it separately to [Log in to view e-mail addresses]. If you ask me the question on IRC, it will not be added to the report unless it is a particularly awesome question that pertains to everyone. And while maybe I can't award Dark Crosses like Muz does, I can possibly reward you for a particularly good question or set of questions.

And copying Muz again, for those members who aren't fans of reading reports,

TL;DR:

  • I is your new Consul, myes?
  • I will begin new clan fiction in my reports starting in the next two weeks
  • Ji = Proconsul; will alternate reports with me biweekly
  • Project Fisting nearly complete; few more wiki articles to be written and edited (Dox, get on the Zurhidon page :P)
  • Monthly talks among clan and house summits to begin soon
  • RMs = mini-Tribunes; Aediles = activity archivists with BTLs' assistance; Quaestors = "Welcome"-ers
  • Official run-ons to be clan-wide, held once a year
  • One clan story arc every six months; doesn't have to be super-Dark-Jedi-emo-angsty-intense
  • Clan powers: Huge part of clan lore or simply powers we use? Respond to this e-mail with your opinion
  • Volunteers needed to help Raiju with wiki pages oriented around clan storylines
  • Ask the Consul questions! Send her questions in a separate e-mail

I am really looking forward to working as your Consul and only expect great things from our clan. There's no direction we should be going but up. LET'S ROLL!
