Greetings Tarenti!

Big announcement tonight. The military has long been a central element to Tarentum and an important theme in most of our events and writing. For the past few months I've been taking a close look at our military and how we use it. I have it on good authority that the possessions system is well on its way. We're going to have our opportunity very soon to buy more assets using the points we earned during the Dark Crusade. So, it's time to make some changes to make the military more accessible for everyone.

Starting tonight, all military positions and titles are revoked, save for one: Oberst retains the honorary title and baton of Marshal of the Armies of Tarentum. Fictionally, the military is under the direct control of the Quaestor and Aedile, although we delegate the day to day operations of the military to the Marshal.

Ok, enough fiction for now. From now on, here's how you as a Tarenti will be able to get involved in the military and use military assets in your fiction.

No Tarenti has an official rank or position within the military anymore, which frees everyone up to place their characters wherever they need to be for events. No longer will you be stuck commanding your ship when everyone else is down on the planet. No longer will our ships have absentee captains who are always being called out on House business. It didn't make any sense, so we're done doing it that way.

The good news is that everybody's characters can now use military assets. All you have to do is requisition them from the Summit (or the Marshal) for your mission. Need a squad of special forces dudes? A squadron of starfighters? An entire task force? Just ask for it. If it's appropriate for your mission, you get to use it. If it isn't, we'll suggest something more appropriate and you can have that. You can requisition assets by finding Raiju, Oberst or me on IRC or sending us an email.

Fictionally speaking, you don't "own" or "command" the assets you are assigned. They work for the House. Your character works as an equal with the commanding officer(s) of those assets to successfully complete the mission. It is possible that your character could be assigned a temporary rank or position if it's appropriate (especially for sneaky spy stuff) but it won't always be the case. What that means for you is that your character gets to focus on being a Tarenti and a Dark Jedi, and can also have the peace of mind that comes with professionals carrying big guns at your back. When you're done, just give 'em back.

The other thing to come out of this is a project. We have a ton of Wiki pages that have suddenly become out of date due to this announcement. Raiju and I don't really have the capacity to update them all ourselves, so I'd like to put out the call to all Tarenti: help us update the wiki!

There are a couple of tasks here:

1. Remove places where Tarenti are listed as officers on ships or army units.
2. Create NPCs to fill all officer positions on ships and army units.
