Beat the grass to startle the snakes - HMR QUA report

A report wherein Muz reminds some people who he is, introduces himself to some others, and lays out some plans for global dominat...err, house-building.

Hi there.

I'm Muz. You may remember me from such things as the Sons of Sadow, the Dark Council, or the Iron Throne. Today, I am going to talk a little bit about House Marka Ragnos.

I have recently been tapped by Locke to lead the house where I started my career in the DB, and in no small part to the plans I laid out in my application. I am going to share some of those initial plans with you here, as well as ask for a little bit of feedback.

Plans, mwahahahaha.

So, nothing goes anywhere without a plan, and I have a plan for the house. The very first thing I would ask/beg/plead with you all to do is to click this survey link and fill out the questions. It will help the summit (and myself) properly figure out what we need to do and how we need to address things in the House. The survey can be found here: https://goo.gl/forms/3nkZaoXcmECikcVs1

Next, I want to bring up is that the fictional state of the House is kinda a mess. Tasha was working toward getting that sorted, and I will be continuing that work. This will encompass rebuilding the HMR facilities on the wiki, and in fiction (likely to be included in reports going forward), as well as bringing people together to help bridge the gaps between the old historic stuff of the House and the newer generation of members. as such, I am asking for some volunteers who are ready and willing to get their hands dirty with Ophelia and myself as we start this hard work. This would be a great way for junior members to earn some cool promotions and medals, as well as a great way for older members to get in there and leave their mark on the house. Shoot me an email, if you are interested in getting involved.

Once we have our background moving in the right direction, I want to start helping people along their own personal paths, be it toward promotion, toward leadership, or just to help them grow in skill in something. What are those things that you want to do? I need you to fill out that survey so I can find out. Or you can email me, either way works, honestly. I have the intention on running a 'training' runon in the next few months, to help get HMR folks in fighting trim, and show them how to make a runon that actually wins events. There is an art AND a science to it, and I am more than willing to help you all figure that out...especially since CNS (and HMR specifically) used to have the best reputation for runons and fiction. I intend on elevating our game, so that we all get better medals and winning scores. Should be fun along the way, too.

Also, I am going to be doing some rather intensive training programs with new leaders. I think that the longterm survival of the club is based on our new leader's ability to learn their jobs. No, that doesn't mean i am going to be one of those leaders that just delegates everything down. If you haven't been around for my terms on the DC, that really is about the opposite of how I operate. What that means is that I will be walking Ophelia and anyone else who is in our leadership program (that includes BTLs and BTSs) through the steps of how to be a more effective leader. That way, we won't have to search the whole brotherhood for someone when our positions open up, because we will have qualified people ready and waiting here already. If you are interested in getting in on this program, please reach out to Ophelia and I, and we will do our best to get you included in that training, even if a position is not available yet. As I always said: Leadership is action, not position.

Congratulations go out to Armad, who was made Wikipedian of the Month for his contributions to the wikipedia. for his work, he received a Dark Side Scroll (and a hundred credit bonus for when possessions comes out). I am always glad to see when a member of HMR gets recognized on the larger level, and Armad certainly deserves the recognition. Thanks for the work, Armad. Keep kicking tail!

DragonCon was a long and mostly fun weekend, and while i caught a brutal chest cold on the backend of it, and am glad to be home, I enjoyed it thoroughly. If you have never been to a convention of this sort before, it is a lot of fun, despite the long lines to get into anything, and the hordes of people swarming over the place. So much geekery, no matter what your preferred flavor is. We saw everything from Klingon Stormtroopers (in tiaras and tutus) to Warhammer Marines. I even managed to buy a sounding horn from the guy carving the drinking horns for Sam Flegal's Havamal project. Super cool.

TL;DR?

• Muz is QUA
• Do survey https://goo.gl/forms/3nkZaoXcmECikcVs1
• Get involved! Email me!
• Armad earned Wikipedian of the month

Otherwise, keep having fun out there, and let me know if I can help with anything. (also, take that survey, please!)
