NSD Transcendent

Opposite Florrum system primary

Florrum System

“This had better work, Roh,” growled Admiral Cyvaria Ranin, commander of the Ascendant Fleet. “Were we in time for a blockade, my ships could have littered their remains across the desert easily.”

“And in that situation, we would lose the opportunity we have been presented with. There is nothing more alluring to the Jedi than the chance to protect the innocent,” Selika replied. Her image floated above the holodisplay at the rear of the Transcendent’s bridge. Selika’s tight beam transmission was being relayed from Florrum to the Transcendent’s position opposite the system’s star by a small comm satellite.

“The forces we have en-route to Florrum’s surface will strike before the Jedi realize we are there,” came the voice of Teylas Ramar, Dread Lord of Clan Plagueis, from behind the admiral.

The woman snapped to attention as she turned to face him. “My lord.”

“You will get your chance, Admiral. Once the light siders are forced to retreat, we will etch their destruction so far into their memory that it will be spoken in the same breath as New Tython,” Ramar explained. “Your ships will jump in, and we will trap them between us and our army already present on the ground before they can realize what is going on.”

“Easier said than done,” Ranin muttered to herself as she turned back to her duties.

Landing Zone Bravo

Five Kilometers South of Objective

Florrum

The deafening roar and accompanying gust of hot air from the engines of the last LAAT/i taking off temporarily drowned out the barking of orders and bustle of the landing zone. Soldiers rushed to get their crew-served weapons and defensive positions in place. Time was not on their side.

A male Chiss with regulation cut black hair in a KUDF officer’s field uniform stood surveying the bustle of activity. His glowing red eyes darted across the various positions of the perimeter making sure all the avenues of approach were covered. Len Iode had briefed his troops, it was time to let them do what they do best.

Len’s follow KUDF officer, a graceful Human female with silver hair and ice blue eyes approached. “How are we looking Len? The first of my scouting patrols will be ready to move out in twenty minutes.”

The Chiss gazed toward his Human counterpart. “Major Archenksova, my squads are setting up their sectors of fire now.” He pointed toward a nearby creek bed in the rocky terrain. “There’s more deadspace than we anticipated in this position but we’ll have to make due with the grenades we have if it comes to that. Orders are orders after all, the Plagueis forces can drop out of hyperspace any minute.”

Alethia nodded in agreement with her peer’s assessment. “Well if all goes well we should have all the approaches the planetary shield generators secured before they arrive.” She let that wishful thought hang in the air for a few moments. “But you know the old saying, no plan survives contact with the enemy.”

Len chuckled. “No it does not.”

The Prologue Winner is...

Clan Odan-Urr

Odan-Urr has placed first overall in the Prologue, decoding Thax Kolzaar’s message before Plagueis’ intelligence and arrived on-planet before hostile forces could arrive. This has given them a solid foothold over the terrain and an increased readiness to battle the incoming forces of Plagueis.

The Battle is Begun

Gentlemen, ladies, Jedi and Sith,

The Prologue is over, and the message has been decoded. On the surface of Florrum, undesirables are gathered for a last stand against Plagueis’ armies. Determined to save them from defeat at the hands of Plagueis’ nefarious schemes, Odan-Urr has allied with the undesirables. Meanwhile, Plagueis has been granted Inquisitorius support to soften the rallies of these so-called vermin.

In addition to the second phase’s launch, we have some NPCs that can be used for context, and included in some member’s fiction. Do note that the winner of the overall event will be allotted one of these to keep post-feud, so killing off the winning Clan’s selections will be non-canon.

Clan Odan-Urr NPCs
Clan Plagueis NPCs

Comprised of three phases, this event has a Prologue phase and two regular phases of competitions, with two competitions running the length of the event from the second phase to the end of the third phase. The Prologue itself will be run for one week while the two “main” phases will be run for two weeks each, with a week-long break between them. An introduction, this prologue will introduce you to the start of the conflict between our Clans—with a catch. A single competition will determine which of the Clans arrive first to the field of battle. Win, and determine the route that this event will take (of two possible fictions!)

Our timeline is as follows:

  • Prologue: 29 February to 6 March

  • Phase I: 7 March to 20 March

  • Break: 21 to 27 March

  • Phase II: 28 March to 10 April

Competitions

The next round of competitions is live! This is comprised of four that will run through this phase, and two that run through to the end of the feud. In order to participate in the group events, please use the provided form below.

Fiction: Sides of a Coin

The battle between Odan-Urr and Plagueis has begun in earnest....

Entries must use one of the following prompts:

  • Risk-takers and extortionists both, the former Ohnaka Gang’s greed has placed them under the crosshairs of both Clans. Willing to sell the captive leader of your Clan to the highest bidder, neither side is entertaining the thought of a deal. While rivals from the other Clan move in to collect a high-value target, the task has fallen onto you to rescue your Clan’s leader.

  • Whether out of foolishness or a desire to return to the trade of pirateering, the remnants of Hondo Ohnaka’s Weequay gang have decided to extend negotiations for their exclusive services. With their resources, any Clan would find them a great ally—at a cost. As the designated negotiator in dealings with the neutral faction, you have been instructed to outdo a negotiator sent by the rival Clan without violence.

  • A number of T-7 ion disruptor rifles have fallen into the hands of the enemy Clan. Able to decimate multiple lifeforms with the pull of a trigger, these rifles could be the tipping point for whoever controls them. More important, these rifles are able to disable starfighters, making them ideal for crippling the rival Clan’s atmospheric starfighters. You must either secure the rifles or otherwise prevent rival troops from using them against your Clan’s starfighter support.

  • Soldiers on your side of the conflict are pinned down under fire from an unknown marksman with a superior position. The battlefield is his killing field and his ridge is shielded by a wall of rock serving as his cover. Beneath him, however, blinks the telltale signs of a console—rigged to blow the ridge when activated. Whether through activating the explosives or removing the threat by some other means, your soldiers are depending on you to see the field secured for safe passage.

Puzzle: Decode the Message

Intelligence analysts for your clan intercepted a message being sent from the surface of Florrum. Certain that it doesn't belong to either Plagueis or Odan Urr, it has become a pivotal importance to decode. The message may mean that there are more forces at work and your respective consul could use this information to their advantage.

Decode the cryptogram.

Do NOT share this puzzle with anyone else in either Plagueis or Odan Urr to give them an advantage.

Grading:

  • An entry with no mistakes will value higher than an entry with one or more mistakes.

  • Entries with the same number of mistakes (zero or otherwise) will be valued on time taken to complete the puzzle (lowest time valuing higher.)

  • A single mistake will value higher than two mistakes, but will always be less than an entry with no mistakes Two mistakes will always value higher than three mistakes, and so forth.

Multimedia: Transmissions From the Surface

Create some form of multimedia content (e.g., video, recorded song, extended GIF, interactive website, game, etc.) lasting at least 30 seconds from one of the following prompts:

  • Battle journal - Create a multimedia log from your character’s point of view as the battle unfolds.

  • Propaganda - Create a propaganda piece either to bolster your own side’s morale or make the enemy question theirs

  • A different point of view - Create a multimedia piece from either the Weequay gang’s, the undesirable’s or another third party to the conflict that is not affiliated with Plagueis or Odan-Urr such as the Inquisitorius. How do they view both sides? What are their goals? Who are they making the transmission/log for?

Rules:

  • This event may be entered by teams of up to three people or by individuals.

  • Scoring will be based on creativity, effort, and artistic skill.

Battle Plan: Drawing the Line

Even the greatest armies can be routed against the better planning of a decorated commander. Plagueis’ bloodthirst has brought them to Florrum to counter the Odan-Urr rescue effort. While their fleets are locked in a battle for Florrum’s skies, a similar struggle has each side fighting amid desert canyons and sulfuric geysers. Central to the conflict are a half-buried ion cannon emplacement and a geothermal powered planetary shield—relics of a bygone age, but still quite functional.

In the right hands—your Clan’s—these can be used to wreak devastation on the enemy’s fleet and prevent enemy fleet support to the ground battle. To Odan-Urr, these would serve against Plagueis’ blockade, punching a hole large enough for several shuttles to pass through unmolested. But were these to fall to Plagueis, the emplacements would be turned on the Odan-Urr fleet. Alternatively, it can be eradicated to prevent the other side from gaining an advantage, if the location is deemed impossible to hold.

Rules:

  • Teams will consist of 4 to 6 members from one clan. Signups and team assignments will be facilitated by the leaders of each clan.

  • Scoring will be based on Creativity (25%), Level of Detail (25%), Presentation/Aesthetics (50%). You will not be graded on tactics or any real world military knowledge (formatting of operation orders, etc.), the presence of these in your plan will neither help nor hurt.

  • For team submissions, a valid entry must include a statement detailing the contribution of each member.

  • Only one team member needs to submit the entry through the site, we will manually adjust participation records.

  • Any questions regarding this event can be addressed via email to all the competition organizers
