House Ajunta Pall Report - December - Anchorage Results!

All right folks, this won't be anything spiffy or pretty, but just the facts (and maybe the moment you've all been waiting for?)! I'll try not to go on too much. On to... the results!

First, I'll start with goods: the spreadsheet that has all the placements that you all want anyways. So take a look over it, and see how everyone did. Overall team 3 consisting of Furios, Amodius, Ra'gnar, and Octavia placed first. Congratulations to them! Individual placements can be seen with first place being taken by Selika, second by Furios, and third overall by Misium.

Everyone who participated did awesome, and I'm really glad for everyone who turned out for this. A very positive experience in my estimation. This was meant to be a fun distraction from real life, not a homework assignment or harangue and we tried to best keep it that way. Everyone deserves a pat on the back for taking part.

This was a really fun event to run, and a lot of good feedback on the types of events that were ran. All positive stuff. Unfortunate that some more people didn't get involved, but it was good fun none the less for all that did. This will be short(er) as I'm not going to go on and on about the intricate details of individual competitions as Arden has already covered that via e-mail recently, but I will hit a few points.

  • As Brimstone has already mentioned via e-mail, the URL hunt thing was fun, but a bit of a nugget. Originally we had used asterisks, which Markdown doesn't necessarily always cooperate with. Depends. James fixed it but I fear the damage was basically already done. That was our mistake, and Arden tried to be lenient within reason. In the future we will pick a new symbol or the like that Markdown doesn't absolutely hate/cherish which forces us to make sacrifices to the gods to work correctly.
  • Read the fictions that people chose to publish. They are pretty neat and were fun to read. I specifically inserted the "arboretum" part of the prompt just to see where people went with it. Some people got very creative, some chose to ignore it and got creative in their own way.
  • As you can tell from the spreadsheet, the winner of this came down to participation. I think this Plagueis event has gone to show why we stress participation so much in all that we do. Plagueis shows up in DJB-wide events, and it usually shows up big. Team 3 winning is a prime example. They didn't have the most people, or the "biggest hitters", but they did almost have 100% participation across the board and that's what got them the victory here. This is something to keep in mind when we, Plagueis, are participating in DJB-wide stuff especially where participation means something much of the time. Participation counts.
  • I noticed a lot of hand drawn graphics entries in both phases. Very cool. I like to see a mixture of both. Some people may have won points for making me laugh at their entry, too (Viv). Grading graphics entries with different submission platforms is hard, as you have to treat them all equally. It's easy to get "wow'd" by submissions in a format that you aren't familiar with or capable of doing and automagically think it's the most amazing thing ever. However, that being said, I suck at all graphics therefore anything and everything submitted to me gets an equal "wow" factor and therefore you all had a level playing field. :P Everyone took varying approaches and it was really cool to see some creativity from everyone there.
  • I have specifically singled out graphics and fiction not only because I graded those, but also because we see those a lot in DJB-wide stuff and this was good practice. wink wink
  • A closing fiction is going to follow this sometime in the next few days (read: when I'm not in finals week) which will wrap up this storyline a bit, give us some new stuffs fictionally to work with, and I'm hoping to incorporate a little bit of some peoples individual fictions into this.

Third place, hmm? Guess I'll have to try harder next time. Good job, everyone. Especially Team Furios. That near 100% participation is impressive.

I cry foul sir! For some arbitrary thing that made my team loose by a few points! Nah well done organizing Teylas (also Arden I suppose) looking forward to the wrap-up fiction.

Good job all

I'm so prpud of everyone. We all did a great job! And Teylas, great job on everything!!!

Good job to all. Now, lets talk about grammar :P

Speaking of grammar, what is an "arboretum"? Dunno what it was so went with laboratory

What would we do without Google?

Brim: Arboretum = Garden like thing focused on trees.

even with google, i'd still mis-spelt it.
