Rivalries

Rivalries is in full swing. I’d had this vision for this competition in my head for about a year now, and the fact that it’s finally in motion is kind of surreal. The reception so far has been positive. We already had our first set of matches graded out, with new sign-ups coming in daily.

The event still has another few weeks of run time, though. Endurance and perseverance will become key.

I will publish the full Google Sheet (containing the Signup Form Results) at the end of Rivalries for full transparency. (So you will get to see my organized chaos of note-keeping and color-coding and annotating sign-ups!).

Some questions that have come up:

“Do I get any points if my opponent times out on the opening post?”

Read the competition details. Front lines.

“Is there a word cap?”

Read the competition details. Front lines.

“Is there a word minimum per post?”

Yes, 450 words. After the initial launch, this was clarified in the report itself and the competition details. Still, Front lines.

“What happens if I update my CS between fights?”

When an ACC match is created, the website (thank you, Kalen, for thinking of this) locks into the currently approved sheet. When a Judge goes to grade the match, they will be working off that version of your character sheet.

“Can I request an opponent specifically?”

No, you cannot. All sign ups are based on the queue. If there is a duplicate pairing, I tag it and take the next sign up that follows it. What I can/will do, is periodically point out when the queue is empty. In theory, if you and the person you wanted to fight submitted at the same time, there is a chance you would get one another. Nothing is guaranteed, though. I will simply work off time stamps, and no exceptions will be made.

Ultimately, I want everyone to be having fun with this. I’ve been doing quirky little announcements in DB Chat on Telegram, and seem to be getting good reception. In my next reports, I’m going to start highlighting matches I liked and talking about things I liked/noticed in them.

Special shout out to my judging team who are hard at work in the shadows grading all these matches. They are a great team and I’m lucky to have them.

To request a match, use this form.

Here is the current scoreboard (as of the posting of this report):

scoreboard (Updated)

A few weeks ago, I put out a call for designs for a new ACC Logo. The existing “Fist” logo seemed like it belonged to a different office. The competition generated a lot of really good entries. More than I had thought I was honestly going to get.

In the end, one design stood out most, and that was Kaz’s. However, I really liked elements of Scarlet’s entry, and so in the interest of creating something new and unique, I blended the two ideas together and passed off my notes to V’yr. Our brilliantly sexy and awesome Herald was able to work with me to craft it into what will now serve as the new ACC Logo.

The blade, modeled after an ancient Sith Sword, speaks to the raw nature of conflict and the primal art of the ‘duel’. The angular diamond is fully symmetrical and signifies that all four elements of the Combat Center’s spirit remain in harmony: Story, Language, Conflict, Passion.

These four elements maintain a circular balance for what makes up the spirit of the ACC. While Story sits at its heart, the use of Language is important in bringing the narrative of your Conflict to life. Yet without Passion, or a willingness to put the time and energy into the Combat Center, all the Story, Language and Conflict fall short of their intended purpose. Together, they stand as tribute to the competitive spirit of the ACC.

On the blade, there are some Aurebesh (because everyone loves Aurebesh) “runes” that speak to the blade being treated with Sith Alchemy. Something something lightsaber resistant swords. ;P. I’ll leave you guys to figure out what the text actually says.

Art is ultimately subjective, but I think this new logo does a better job representing the current ACC and what it stands for. I hope you guys like it, and give credit to the multiple artists who contributed to its design: (Kaz, Scarlet, Wally and, of course, V’yr.) V'yr has already gone ahead and made the logo in plain vector form for use on Warbanners! :)

ACC Fundamentals & Qualification

I am currently working on re-writing the ACC Fundamentals and ACC Qualification Exams. The big key will be incorporating changes from CS 2.0, highlighting guidelines that have been added since the ACC first re-opened, and using two new NPCs to demonstrate the new Force Powers and the Non Force-User Disciplines. This will be completed soon(TM).

Character Sheets 2.5

Post launch, the CS Development team has been hard at work helping answer as many questions as possible over different mediums. With the project concluded, I’d like to highlight each team member who contributed in a significant manner and was awarded a merit award:

CS Development Team - Something Old, Something New

With CS 2.0 fully deployed, and the initial responses handled expertly by my wonderful team, Evant and I have decided to close down the current team. We are reevaluating everything that needs to be done going forward, and are currently mapping out a plan of action to make sure that we are meeting our deadlines and staying on top of projects without cramming too many cooks into one kitchen without overwhelming any one contributor. This is a delicate balance that we as leaders have to make.

We will announce our new team in the coming weeks. For now, please roll all questions to the Voice and the Voice staff at: [Log in to view e-mail addresses]

CD-4WG

Evant and I have decided that the nifty Character Sheet Database Reference should live in an NPC droid that we have decided to call CD-4WG. Or, C-Dawg as we’ve come to call him. He’s a declawed (no weapons system) Combat Droid with an accelerator processor that has the ability to pull up and spit out information from the “Database” for the Voice and Combat Center.

(Please don’t read too much into this. It’s mostly a joke.)

Anyway, C-Dawg remains your best reference for anything within the Character Sheet system.

Non Force-User Disciplines

Mav did a thing with a James. At long last, Non Force-Users are a part of the Dark Jedi Brotherhood’s Character Sheets! You can find all the details in Mavs report..

The only thing I’m going to comment is a reminder that the new Order Feats are just flavor. As of right now, they do not have any mechanical functions within the ACC, but should be used when writing your characters outside of it or in your own fictions :). While the CS’s are not strictly for the ACC, as Combat Master I do have a responsibility to speak for it.

Anyway, you can see the first of the two new Disciplines Mav, James, and I came up with for Non Force-Users either through C-Dawg or on the Wiki.

Let’s take a look at the two new Disciplines real quick.

Weapons Specialist

Field Medic

(Thank Terran for Wikifying these and working with the colors for them!)

The other two Disciplines we are working on are Infiltrator and Operator. We were working under a tight deadline, so we decided in the interest of delivering the best possible result to push these two back from initial launch. Look forward to these in upcoming reports as they are developed on the back end! We are all about getting things as right as possible the first time around ;).

Character Sheet Spotlight

As we start to see the first wave of NFU's being created, I wanted to highlight Arcia Cortel's sheet in particular as one of the first Weapons Specialist. Arcia wrote and revised all of his characters Custom Aspects to reflect the change from a Force User to a Non Force User. It shows how you can have a character with good back story and their own brand of power even without the Force.

Great work, Esca!

Wrap Up

Thanks again to everyone who has gotten behind Rivalries and for the generally warm reception to CS 2.0. It was a lot of hard work, and I’m happy that everyone who helped saw their rewards and seems happy. Thank you again for your continued support as your CM, and for the patience with us rolling out updates and doing our best to make changes on the fly.

Remember, feel free to ask questions here as well, and we'll do our best to answer them! CS 2.0 Q&A on Discourse.
