Kamjin felt uneasy piloting his Ghtroc 720 Light Freighter with his back on his companions. What should have been a simple op to retrieve a Force relic had nearly turned into a bloodbath. Raleien sat next to him in the copilot seat, looking equally uncomfortable. Thran’s mind-trick was still giving him occasional pangs of regret for neglecting Thranny; an inanimate rock that Thran had found and forced upon the Viceroy in an attempt to assess his trustworthiness.

What they hadn’t realized was that all their trustworthiness was being put to the test as the relic, a somewhat mummified remains of a Force sensitive creature, had been slowly driving them mad in an attempt to have them find it and resurrect it.

While Kamjin had found the relic first, sensing it’s potential and the gleeful destructivism in Thran’s and Sykes’s eyes had given it to Rayne. She was the only one there with enough medical knowledge he could trust to actually attempt to resurrect the creature and insane enough to keep Thran and Sykes in line.

However, Thran was out there now, the secret shared between them now at risk of becoming public. Kamjin did not know what would come next but he sensed trouble.

It’s a new year and fourth quarter 2021 awards have been issued. We started off 2022 with a bang with some significant recognition going out! I am extremely proud of all the members being recognized. Your hard work, whether within the clan or extending into the larger Brotherhood continues to contribute to the wonderful community that is Scholae Palatinae.

There’s been a significant amount of activity in the last month from the Dark Council. To help you digest it I’ve outlined the significant items below, my summary of the report, and addressed questions where applicable from within and without the clan.

Fist Report #40

Dracaryis continues his evolution of the Fist office with a revamp of how we codify and track online gaming. Historically we separated online gaming into three categories.

1. Player vs. Player (PvP): Where two individuals compete head-to-head
   
2. Player(s) vs Others (PvO): Where two or more individuals compete against other players (e.g., non-DJB members)
   
3. Player(s) vs Environment (PvE): Where two or more individuals compete against non-player characters
   

Drac has merged PvP and PvO activities and branded both PvP. I like this change as it simplifies where a member goes to report their online gaming. I, myself, was constantly confused with PvP and PvO when I went to submit scores.

Action: Review the updated Gaming Information page for the current gaming and Fist policies.

Regent Report #7

Zxyl Bes’uliik Taldrya (aka Anubis) has been hard at work again with artifacts.Specifically, moving historical and new clan artifacts into ‘physical’ (or I guess NFTs) possessions. The full list is available within his report, linked above, and I’ll take a moment to discuss the Scholae Palatinae specific artifacts.

In consultation with my Summit we submitted and gained approval for the following three artifacts.

• Holocron of Vengeance
  
• Rajk Opal
  
• Scisis
  

If the last two sound familiar that’s because they’re two of the winning artifacts from our Scour the Galaxy for Force Relics competition we ran in September, 2021. As you read through the descriptions they were informed by the winning submissions from our Force Artifacts: Let's Do Some Science! competition.

This is a continuation of my commitment when I accepted the Consul position to have our competitions and Clan activities directly influence our fictional story arc.

The third, the Holocron of Vengeance, is a historical relic granted by Darth Pravus to Scholae Palatinae. The possession description incorporates the new canon (e.g, removes references to Byss an Sentinels) for the artifact.

Now, we do not want to have these artifacts just sitting in a vault. As I reviewed with the Summit how we’d manage awarding the artifacts; I came to the conclusion that introducing a revolving competition for the artifacts was not the best way to go. I sought a means to provide the artifacts to individuals, on a rotating basis, without requiring people to participate in an activity they may not enjoy.

Below is how Scholae Palatinae will award the artifacts.

	Holocron of Vengeance: Granted to the Consul as a means to award, temporarily, to newly elevated Elders. I have held this possession until now and have requested it be granted to Xantros in recognition of his elevation to Elder. He’ll retain it until a new Elder is elevated or, approximately, three months.
	Rajk Opal: I consider this a ‘rising-star’ award and, as such, it will be awarded to active members under the rank of EQ1. They will hold the possession until they are promoted or go inactive. Currently this is held by Czarnian in recognition of his promotion to Knight.
	Scisis: This is in recognition of our gamers, specifically targeting the highest placed Scholae Palatinae member in the quarterly GMRG Guardsman Leaderboard. Currently this is held by Thran who placed first in the Q4, 2021 GMRG leadership board.

Exarch Report #2

Roleplaying, whether new to you (e.g., Scholae Palatinae) or a long-standing thriving part of your community (e.g. Arcona), continues to evolve under Alethia Archenksova watchful eye. There’s some key points made within the report about what’s been accomplished and what is continuing to be developed.

For us, this has led to the successful completion of our first roleplaying adventure, expertly DM’d (Dungeon Master - e.g., person who runs the adventure) by Xathia. She created a wonderfully detailed, contained, adventure for us exploring an ancient temple, fighting droids and pirates, navigating traps, and getting to know how our characters would interact and engage with each other.

A special call out for those who participated in our first event.

It was a whirlwind adventure of adventure, mystery, traps, and love (e.g., the newest mascot of Scholae Palatinae Spud).

While there are many different roleplaying styles that are being utilized I, personally, enjoyed Xathia’s approach utilizing D20 (e.g., 20 sided dice), allowing multiple roles to build up sequential actions, and then allowing for flowing post of action/dialogue. This flowed well given we had people in multiple time zones across the globe and people working throughout the day.

Are you ready to kit out CSPs dominion with planetary assets? Or is that a Thran job? - Anubis (Zxyl Taldrya)

Am I excited? absolutely! Am I ready to click a lot of buttons to buy and slot possessions? You betcha! Am I going to listen to what Thran tells me to do? It’s the only way I’m gonna stay alive.

The work being done by the Regent’s office and staff is simply amazing. From individual possessions in the booster packs to clan possessions in terms of the system and planets released; I couldn’t be more pleased.

Having a member of the staff within the clan definitely helps me understand and navigate the process but it’s all through the same mechanism we all have access to via [Log in to view e-mail addresses].

As a return question, I’m eager to find out if we will have primer possessions granted to the Clan, primer funds to purchase our own, or a “get them as you can get them” approach.

In regard to your question, I again refer you to the symbol.

In seriousness, to me it would make for a good twist and is similar to many modern stories that are removing the previous trope of male driven roles controlling the strings of plots or activities with the empowerment, and recognition, that women have equally played these roles throughout history.

It would further show a corruption of the Daughter’s role as a bringer of light and creation via the corruption of ‘birth’ that occurs when a crystal is implanted within an individual.

But, I could equally just be a crazy conspiracy theorist.

Who would win in a fight between you and Thran? - Zentru’la

Honestly, it would be close. I could see us equally destroying each other. I think I have the edge in power over Thran but Thran’s dirty fighting would conflict with Kamjin’s nobler aspects and would give him an edge.

What would be certain is that the area around Kamjin and Thran in such a fight would be completely destroyed.

I hope you all have had a great January and all the great new things that have come out in the past month. For me, real-life has kept me busier than I would have liked with some unforeseen work requirements that consumed three weeks of my availability.

As such, I’m just getting into the meat of The Dark Times Saga. A special shout out to Dek who has been answering my questions and feeding me information so I can absorb the main lift of the fiction work and competition design.

Further, a special thank you to Raleien who has kept the lights on with the tactical engagement and the support of Archangel and Aldaric who are generating House level activities to keep the competitive juices flowing!
