Introduction

Greetings Dark Jedi Brotherhood!

My February report, like the month itself, is smaller than previous month’s reports. January is historically a slow time in both the general gaming industry and within the club so I won’t waste your time will filler just to get words on the page.

This report is going to focus on a sad piece of news. Junazee, Praetor extraordinaire, is stepping down from her post after an illustrious run.

Junazee: Professional Taskmaster

When Junazee informed me of her intention to step down at the end of March it goes without saying (but I will say it) that I knew I would have a huge hole to fill on the staff. Junazee has been in the Fist office since March of 2017, first as Magistrate followed by her elevation to Praetor in May of 2018. During Junazee’s time as Praetor she has been the Taskmaster of the Fist office. Anyone that has served as a Magistrate over the past two years knows that Junazee does a fantastic job of getting newbies up to speed on Fist policies and procedures. With a staff that rotates regularly, this is no small feat.

On top of training duties, Junazee works extremely hard to ensure that the staff is always meeting their service standards. Whether that is the 24-hour approval time on submissions, submitting monthly GMRG submissions on time or grading competitions in a timely manner, Junazee always shows a commitment to excellent service standards.

Junazee has also put up with three separate Fists in her tenure and it isn’t an accident that the gears kept turning within the office through the transitions between new Dark Councilors. Her experience and professionalism has helped elevate the entire office for three years now and replacing her is going to be a huge challenge.

Junazee, on behalf of not just myself but the other Fists you have so admirably served in your tenure, I want to thank you for all that you have done over the past three years. All of us in the gaming community have benefited from your diligent work. I wish you great success in your new role as Quaestor of House Galeres, they have chosen not only a hard worker but a great person to fill the role.

Praetor Applications

With Junazee now on her victory lap, I’m going to open up applications for Praetor. First and foremost, please review the wiki entry for this position to get started on your own application: Praetor.

In addition this list, the Praetor to the Fist performs a handful of key duties:

  • Monitors the gaming submission queue and helps ensure the 24-hour approval time is maintained.
  • Assists with the training and selections of new Magistrates.
  • Ensure all policies and procedures are up to date.
  • Answer member inquiries regarding policy as it is written, deferring to the Fist for policy interpretation.
  • Stay up to date on new game releases and updates to existing platforms.
  • Produce at least one report per month.

An ideal applicant will possess the following traits:

  • An very good understanding of Fist policies such as those listed on the Gaming Information, Fist-O-Matic and the Rites of Combat pages.
  • Thorough knowledge of the current Supported Platforms.
  • Previous experience as a Magistrate is a huge plus. I’m not going to say it is impossible to become Praetor without this experience but any former Magistrate will have an immediate advantage.

Applications should include:

  • Your recent club history with a focus on gaming activity and the roles you have served in.
  • Your experience with leading teams in administrative work and on projects.
  • Ideas that you have to grow the gaming community within the club.
  • Any other information you feel is relevant to the role.

Applications will remain open until the end of the day, site time, on March 1st, 2020. This will give me some time to review applications and allow for some overlap between the new appointee and Junazee before Junazee is officially retired at the end of March. The final selection will also be run past the Grand Master and Deputy Grand Master to ensure proper oversight.

Send your applications to me directly, ([Log in to view e-mail addresses]).

Discord Changes

We decided to make some changes to the club Discord channel listing in an attempt to spur more detailed discussion around specific platforms. The Clan specific channels have been removed and instead there are now game specific channels for each of our supported platforms. The idea isn’t to replace Telegram as the main channel for gaming related discussion but to enhance our communication tools.

The new Discord channels provide a place for more in depth discussion to occur about a specific platform. For example, if people are looking to get into more detailed discussion about itemization in Destiny 2 the Discord channel would be a great place for that topic. To be clear, this topic can still be discussed in DB Gaming but because this level of detail may be better served by a more focused audience. Also, these channels do not have the meme ban that exists in DB Gaming.

Thank you to Warp and Kris for their work on these changes. Warp for doing the work with changing the Discord channels themselves and Kris for bringing the idea up for discussion.

As with all changes I look forward to your feedback.

Thank you Justinios for the kind words. Being magistrate and then praetor I have learned many things and mentored or helped many others. This is a great opportunity! It saddens me to step down but I feel it's time for a break and let someone else have the chance to help out the FIST staff and gaming community. I hold this position close to heart and hope the next praetor will too.
In my next report coming up I'll write more. So, APPLY! If you have been a magistrate I hope you heavily take it into consideration. For you have seen how things go. Those that are considering it that have not been on staff. Follow the guidelines Justinios has in his report. Hope there will be plenty of applicants. If you have any questions don't be afraid to ask! I'm available on Telegram or email. Apply, apply APPLY!

Ty Junz for your work

Hands down the best praetor I had during my tenure as Fist. Nobody else even comes close.

Thank you for all your hard work, Juna!

Juna made my short tenure as Fist an absolute dream. Her work ethic, attitude, and ability made her absolutely invaluable to me, Drac, and Justinios. Sorry to see you go. Congratulations on a phenomenal three years on the Fist staff!

Great Work Juna you did great things as P:FIST and would have definitely made the best FIST I would have ever worked under hands down. Nobody else would have even come close.

Edgar is right. Juna will make an excellent Fist some day! No doubt in my mind she could do the job, and do it very, very well!
