Gaming Update #42

In this report we have Battlefront news and summary of known game modes, information on a JA Tournament starting next month, and Diablo 3 Cluster changes. As well as the normal summary of Gaming Competitions that are running, Pendants of Blood that were awarded, and results from previous gaming competitions.

Battlefront - A Glimpse at the Battle of Jakku

Imgur

Earlier this week EA Battlefront put together an article which details the thought process of the Concept Artist who worked on the Battle of Jakku. We now know that the events related to it occurred 29 years before The Force Awakens, and after the victory on Endor. Its a quick read, but interesting.

Since we're a little light on Battlefront news this time, I wanted to provide a quick run down of what different game modes are currently known:

  • Survival - Co-Op Game with waves of enemies attacking 1-2 players. Only playable as a Rebel Soldier.
  • Fighter Squadron - 10v10 player clash (with an extra 10 AI ships on each side) in the skies. Right now we have seen a mission type where a shuttle needs to be destroyed or defended and there was mention of another with the winning team needing to accumulate 200 kills before a time limit (unknown what the time limit is yet).
  • Supremacy - 20v20 player clash involving both ground and air units to secure terrain.
  • Walker Assault - 20v20 player battle, Rebel Forces race to destroy the AT-AT before it reaches the target, while the Empire protects the walker(s).
  • Blast - 10v10 player deathmatch. Winning Team is based on first to reach 100 kills or the team with the most kills after 10 minutes.
  • 1v1 Battles? - There was a brief mention in a News Post during E3 that "You should be excited for the Star Wars Battlefront Missions, where you can jump in and play against AI alone or with a friend, including split-screen co-op and 1:1 battles."

We're eagerly awaiting more Battlefront News, recommended PC specs, and hopefully an Open Beta to determine how to integrate as much of this game into our club as possible!

JA Sway Friendly Tournament

A few months ago a discussion began related to dropping the Swaying rule for Jedi Academy. At the conclusion of that I mentioned running a Tournament with modified rules in place to test this and collect member feedback. We're going to be doing that next month.

In order to participate, you'll need to subscribe to this competition through the website BEFORE September 18th. No late entries will be permitted. The Tournament Bracket will be assembled based on PVP Score Rankings from 01Jan2015 to 18Sep2015. The #1 Ranked subscriber (highest PVP Score) will face the last ranked participant (lowest PVP Score), and so on. Basically March Madness style.

The Tournament Bracket will be published by Sunday 27Sep2015. Battles will begin on Monday 28Sep2015. Each round will begin on a Monday and end on the following Sunday, giving 7 days to complete. If by Thursday your opponent has not responded to emails from you attempting to schedule a match please CC Valhavoc on your communications. This will most likely result in your opponent forfeiting the match, with the decision to be made by the Fist. If matches are not played and neither player has reached out to me I will consider both forfeiting out of the tournament. Issues outside of this will be resolved based on a decision made by the GM, DGM, and Fist. I strongly suggest setting up your matches early.

  • Each Match will be played until one player reaches 3 points (kills) against their opponent
  • Each Round will be decided based on best out of 5 Matches. All 5 Matches must be played.
  • Results from each round will be emailed to Valhavoc by the winner of the round, with their opponent CC'ed.
  • Use of DBGaming is NOT required to challenge opponents for these 5 matches.

The only Jedi Academy specific Rules which will be in effect are as follows:

  • Matches must be played on an Official Club Server, refer to the Gaming Servers Wiki Page. No exceptions.
    • If players cannot agree on one Official Club Server then each player will choose a server. Three Matches will be played on the higher tournament ranked player's server. Two Matches will be played on the lower tournament ranked player's server. Consider this a "home field advantage".
  • When both players have sabers ignited, the duel starts.
  • You cannot use a Bacta Tank during a duel.
  • You cannot attack a player who has been knocked to the ground in a duel, whether by kick or saberlock loss.

Star Wars Galactic Defense version 2.0 now available

A new version of the App came out earlier this week. It introduces a ton of new changes... although alot of it doesn't appear to be awesome. New character Tokens need to be collected to level up your champions, as well as certain items to progress them. These can be bought or earned from playing missions. It seems if you want Dark side tokens you need to play the Light side campaign, and vice versa. Overall, it feels like the general difficulty of the grind in this game has been significantly turned up. Not sure what their plans are for in game events. If anything comes up I'll be watching for it though.

How to submit gaming scores video

Earlier this week Sim Potens put together a short video for CSP that shows how to submit gaming scores through our website. You can view the video here. Thanks Sim!

This video has also been passed on to the Headmaster for potential inclusion in the Journeyman Hall, Gaming 103: Submitting Gaming Activity course.

Diablo 3 Cluster Changes

As mentioned in one of my last reports I was looking at altering how CFs were awarded in Diablo 3. Since the feedback was positive and now that the newest Diablo patch and Season have begun I'll be implementing the following shortly after this report goes live:

  • Regular Rifts from Torment 1 to Torment 5 Difficulty award 2 CE for completion
  • Regular Rifts from Torment 6 to Torment 9 award 2.5 CE for completion
  • Regular Rifts at Torment 10 award 3 CE for completion
  • Greater Rifts from 10 to 23 award 2 CE for completion
  • Greater Rifts from 24 to 44 award 2.5 CE for completion
  • Greater Rifts above 45 award 3 CE for completion

As I mentioned before, this will replace the current system which has members accrue Clusters by killing elites. A screenshot of the Greater Rift Completion Screen or the Regular Rift with the Rift Boss defeated will be required.

August Gaming Competitions

Pendants of Blood

Starting 22Mar2015 the Weekly PoB has been awarded for matches from Sunday to Friday. A second PoB will be awarded for Saturday matches, consider this a "Gaming Day". Time will be based on GMT just like competitions, so Friday at 7pm EST the "Gaming Day" will begin and conclude at 7pm EST Saturday. Following completion of the Gaming Nights project this may change back to a Sunday-Saturday one per week reward. The wiki has not been updated with this new schedule for that reason.

Sweet!

Related to Star Wars Galactic Defense, I just requested the following competition. It should be live soon:

  • Obtain the highest Star Count on Kashyyk possible. Both Light Side and Dark Side Stars count. Ties will be broken by the first to submit. 2nd Level Crescents to the winners. For every 12 Stars earned on Kashyyk 5 CEs will be awarded. Competition will run through September 30th.

Is TiberiusR Tra'an Reith? Sounds similar to his Xbox gamertag.

Liam, you are correct.

So excited for Battlefront

Confirmed TiberiusR as Tra'an and updated Report as well as competition!

Ugh, so many mobile game competitions. What happened to the computer flash games?
