[GM] Farewell to Jac, A New Justicar Nominated, and May the 4th...

Greetings all,

Today I say goodbye to a Councilor I have served with for years, nominate a new Justicar, and delve quickly into a few other subjects.

A Farewell to an Old Friend

Jac Cotelin is one of my closest friends in the Brotherhood. I have had the great pleasure of working with him since he returned to activity in the Brotherhood years ago as a regular member transferring out of the rogues to join Clan Taldryan, where I was Consul. Jac had taken a few years off after his first stint as Grand Master, and was eager to become involved once more. Before long, he became my Proconsul, but truth be told, I learned more from him while he was my Proconsul than I suspect he did from me. Later, we would once more work together during the Exodus and, of course, afterwards. Jac is among our most dedicated leaders and most influential members, and more than that, a good friend to many of us.

And thus, it is with great sorrow that I accepted our Justicar's resignation yesterday. We had discussed that this day would come, as Jac foresaw his shrinking free time, but he loved our club and hoped he could carve out enough time to continue to serve for the rest of this year. As you all have seen, Jac has realized that will not be possible. It is almost an understatement to say that the foundation of what this club is and will continue to be is due to Jac. He has inspired countless leaders and members across our club, including myself, and while yesterday I accepted his resignation, Jac will remain as a trusted advisor and member of the Star Chamber, helping to guide our club for years to come.

Justicar Nominated: Dacien Victae di Plagia

After consultation with the departing Justicar, members of the Star Chamber, and the Dark Council, I am nominating Dacien Victae, aka Bubba, as the next Justicar. Bubba has served our club for more than a decade across every level and has proven himself more than capable of taking on one of the Brotherhood's most important positions. His approach is calm and reasonable, and in his most recent stint on the Dark Council, his term as Headmaster was marked by stability and growth. He currently serves both as a member of the Star Chamber, and on the Chamber of Justice as Left Hand of Justice. In the real world, Dacien is an accomplished lawyer, skills that will no doubt aid him as Justicar. I have informed the Electorate of my nomination and initiated the 48 hour discussion period, after which I will call for a vote. If you have pressing questions you would like to see Dacien address, please contact your summits, or you can contact me directly.

Recognizing Excellence: Atra Ventus

I would like to take a moment to recognize our Combat Master, Atra. Atra is an excellent advisor and a good friend to many of us, and his contributions to our Brotherhood are numerous. Atra's positive impact on our character systems and his tireless devotion to improving the ACC has resulted in countless projects completed at various levels. Atra has trained a dozen judges and took on an enormous task in being the primary judge and grader for a 'bin' during the Great Jedi War, ensuring a smooth ACC event and the introduction of the combat writing category that gave members more options than ever to flex their fictional muscles. Atra is always mindful of membership feedback, working with the Voice and the Regent where needed, such as in his implementation of functional armor to our fiction systems and in his review of items to ensure compatibility with our systems. I know I speak for the Deputy Grand Master and the Voice when I say congratulations, Atra, on your Emerald Dagger (this was awarded a few days ago ;) ).

Changes in the Grand Master's Staff

Unfortunately, my Magistrate Laren has had to step down due to real life obligations. Many of his projects have been passed on to the Wiki Tribune, as they dealt directly with updating our primary reference material for policies and the like, and Bentre was interested in seeing many of the same problem pages update. I am naming Auorora "Aura" Ta'var as my Magistrate instead, as she has already been working with me on a few projects. Aura will be assisting me in evaluating membership and leader perception of different unit positions, particularly Rollmaster and Quaestor, and finding ways we can improve efficiency in our structures as we move forward. Expect to see more from her soon!

May the 4th Be With You

Starting on May 3rd (site time), we will be launching a small event that will last until the 7th in celebration of May the 4th. This event is generally canon-themed, is individual-focused (as opposed to Clan-focused scoring) and the member performing the best across competitions will take home a custom robe. Several Dark Councilors have designed fun competitions I hope you all take part in, and the Deputy Grand Master will have more details for at launch of the competitions. Competitions vary in difficulty, and we expect some fierce competition here for the robe! More details will be available tomorrow.

Quick Hits

A few quick updates not in need of their own subsections:

1) Summits are currently discussing two options for Vendetta dates, either starting in October, or later in January. We have begin preliminary planning for the next major event, and we will share more details with everyone soon. For now, we can share that relative Clan placement will be based predominantly on participation. We are giving ourselves (and units) ample time to plan around the coming Vendetta.

2) Rather than trying to steal Maximus' thunder, I'll point you all to his excellent report. Please take the time to follow our social media streams and like our Facebook! Beyond just Facebook growth, our random join numbers have spiked higher than we've seen in a long time, and soon we will have a bit more information on that moving forward. Please be sure to welcome all of our new faces, many of whom have already made their way into Telegram, whenever you get the chance!

3) We will be moving ahead with a plan to remove the granting of credits from being an organizer or co-organizer on container competitions. This effort will help alleviate some of the need for us to have heavy oversight over organizers and co-organizers, and to continue to emphasize the utility of 'containers' in organizing. Merit medals will continue to serve as the best way to describe a leader's contributions to the success of an event.

4) I have not forgotten about the rank renames - I will be in contact with members that reached out to me later this week regarding how I am hoping we can go about updating some of our rank names!

With that, I hope you all have an excellent week, and no doubt you will hear from me later this week in regards to the Justicar vote.

Telaris "Mav" Cantor
Grand Master

Jac, thank you again for all your work and dedication to the Brotherhood. Dacien, you have some very big shoes to fill. No pressure! But seriously, you'll be great.

Congrats on the Emerald Dagger, Atra! And Aura, enjoy being Magistrate for the big boss.

Yessss. You’ll do great Bub.

Again, thanks Jac for your service.

Congrats Atra on the ED, [insert joke about Atra now needing blue pills]. Best of luck Bubba & Aura, you'll both do great.
