HMR QUA Report - Part 1: We're Going Through Changes

HMR Quaestor Report - Part 1

So it’s that time of the month again, and this report comes with a twist as I am breaking it down into two separate reports. This month will deal with primarily house things and the next part will deal with the results of Below Zero. There’s a reason for this and it's basically my health. Picked up a virus after being caught in a storm then working for 6 hours in drenched clothes. Hint; if you have to go to work during a storm take dry clothes. Basically, the virus is leaving me worn so any major projects are being put on hold, or broken down into parts to help me get things done.

So there we have it, do an event in the cold and end up sick from the cold and rain. Sod's law.

State of the House

What can I say about the House this month? Activity has been awesome. I am so proud of everyone who got involved in Below Zero and I want to thank you all given it was my first event as this Houses QUA. I’ve run many before as Aedile but stepping up to fill the boots of Muz was genuinely one of the scariest moments I have ever experienced. But it’s been a good two months in its own way.

Some sad news of course. Our member base has dropped. Losing some members like Macron, Firith and half a dozen newbies hit our numbers quite hard. We rest at the lucky 13 mark now, with the Nighthawks being half of that. This obviously isn’t good in terms of numbers, but it’s also not a bad thing if the scoring for the GJW comes to participation/active membership which I discussed in the last report.

It would be amazing if we could get our oldies back, and with the GJW looming I shall put out an email to try and entice them back for the glory of Ragnos.

Talking about the Great Jedi War. There have been rumours that it may occur sometime in October. That’s one month to have a break and relax. I’ll be running some competitions, probably a couple from each category of fiction, gaming, graphics and misc to give you all something to do.

Nighthawks

So this is the thing that may or may not draw me ire and I am ok with that. Sometimes being a leader is making an unpopular choice for the betterment of the House. Darkhawk has tended his resignation and so I wish to thank him for his year service and the effort he put into assisting the summit in running the team for the last year.

I have decided, with input from other summit members, to turn the position of BTL into a yearly rotation. It’s an old school method of ensuring we train as many leaders as possible so we always have someone who can command should the summit fall. In laymen terms, this means the BTL will be a year only. After the year is up new applications will be opened again and a new person will be appointed and so on and so forth. Why are we doing this you may ask?

The truth is numbers. We have 13 members left in the House and not a lot of you are leadership trained, now usually this wouldn’t be a problem but I’ve come to realise that should anything happen to Marcus or myself the list of ready candidates who could take over is limited without calling on the likes of Muz again to train someone new or calling in outside help.

This rotation should allow the House to have a constant ready supply of leaders to step up and get stuff done.

So since the position is vacant I am now opening applications for Battleteam leader of the Nighthawks.

Applications are open DB-wide and need to be sent to the following people, myself ([Log in to view e-mail addresses]), Marcus ([Log in to view e-mail addresses]), Benny ([Log in to view e-mail addresses]), and Sang ([Log in to view e-mail addresses]) no later than 10 PM GMT on the 13th of September. I have the right to close applications early should the right candidate step forward.

There is no minimum rank or DB experience requirement, though having passed the Shadow Academy leadership courses will be a bonus for you. Be prepared to answer follow-on questions via email or telegram.

The BTL’s Duties

Set a good example for House members through strong regular activity and a positive attitude in chat. Maintain regular communication with BT members through email and Telegram. Assist in evaluating and recommending members for promotion and merit awards. Assist in planning, running, and promoting competitions for the Battleteam. Assist in developing Battleteam lore and maintaining our wiki page(s). In regards to this, the Nighthawks will need a new up to date direction, I will be looking for your ideas at what you are going to do and how you are going to progress with this.

What to include on your application

Relevant leadership or project experience in or beyond the DJB, if you have any. Any ideas you have for improving or developing the Battleteam. A 30/60/90 plan won’t be required. Any time constraints we would need to be aware of and to top it off things about you, what makes you tick and drives you forward.

I’m leaving this report here as is. In the next week, the Below zero results will be released, with end fiction that includes some updates for some of you.

Thank you for being the best house in Naga Sadow, you guys make me proud.
