House Fiction

Trepus Mine Base
Trepus, Solyiat

The medical facilities had run out of bacta tanks and exam rooms sometime after midnight, so Corinna designated Briefing Room Nine as overflow. Built to hold 400 bodies for mission staging, it now housed refugees from Is Brea on every tier of the amphitheater. As they waited on medical clearance or assignment for the next transport out, families soothed crying children wrapped in scavenged blankets and small groups played sabacc on the floor. The chaos didn’t phase the small group of Hoth’s military commanders and tacticians who had taken over the holoprojector well at the front of the room.

Under the room’s hustle and bustle, the Force thrummed like a melody that seemed to harmonize the frenzied medics rushing in and out of the room as well as the soldiers moving dutifully down the corridors outside. Each chord emanated from a central node, carrying something of the woman who stood to the side of the holotable beholding it all and channeling her reflexes to benefit the immensely complicated operation that had taken over her life the past several days.

“Ma’am?” A grizzled voice reclaimed her attention.

“Yes, Captain,” Corinna replied, stepping back toward the war council behind her as the man who addressed her adjusted the vector projection.

“Loyalist forces have retreated to a garrison outside the Jewel. We’ve secured the Governor’s Mansion and completed our final sweep of the grounds.” The Sephi officer cleared his throat the way so many people do when they had bad news.

“And?”

Thank you for these gifts, Tor. It was a very generous offer to share your amazing talent. And you’ll always be a part of Hoth.

Until next time, House Hoth, may the Force be with you.
