Fiction

Saladrin loved the cool, crisp coastal air. After the sun set, a very light mist sometimes enveloped Seher, and when lit by starlight, it gave the entire city a softly-glowing magical aura. As the night air was shifted by the salt-lined gusts of wind, Sal made his way down one of the wider roads towards the admin district. Anyone dull enough to still be working there at this ungodly hour would be no trouble. It would be near-empty, dark and misty, whilst still publicly accessible. Perfect for a rendezvous.

Which is why he had to avoid it - the Jedi of Seher were particularly adept at sniffing out shifty stuff. He’d go on through the admin district towards the residential area near the west market. It was perilously close to the Jedi’s Citadel, but the Shinga wasn’t one to be too cautious. The Shinga had taken a gamble, and if it fell through, Sal would be the one to take the fall..

Sal always prided himself on how far he’d come. His tribe had been a nomadic, yet coastal group. They were a kind, generous people, and, when given the chance, had joined the Tribal Alliance. However, the Treaty wasn’t just. The Harakoans were barely allowed enough militia to protect themselves from thieves and bandits. For a medium-sized tribe, Whenua had allowed barely a quarter of the people to be trained in weaponry and armed — half the men weren’t allowed, doomed to never become a true man. The tribe’s crops and profits were sent off to a hub to be ‘fairly’ distributed amongst his people. That meant that a productive tribe like Sal’s actually got less crops than they sent off, whereas a stagnant tribe barely had to lift a finger to get the same amount of food.

As more tribes signed the Treaty, the worse it got. The whole Tribal Alliance became more and more parasitic, and tribes like Sal’s became dirty, poor, and starving. Some had wanted to approach the New Tython Council to discuss amendments, but they had never got their chance. Sal made sure of that. It was an idealistic concept, that all tribes could combine their forces and become allies. But it was an idea that would never happen. The best way forward was to break up it up, according to the Master of Politics.

He spotted his rendezvous up ahead, on the right. Instead of approaching it, he started to circle around, checking for any tails. Seher was by far the most difficult and riskiest of all their “franchises”. It required a certain… cunning to infiltrate it, especially under the Jedi’s noses. It was said that there were espionage-trained Jedi among them, as well as certain Jedi with an amazing mass of connections in the underground.

As he turned and finally started approaching the modest dwelling, he squared his shoulders, and added a bit of an arrogant swagger to his step. This may only be a delivery of some goods, but it was always beneficial to intimidate their customers - especially the city officials. It ensured that the Shinga’s blackmail would work, when he decided to use it. The Master of Trade had said that if everything went to plan, that time would be very soon.

Seridan had a lot on his mind, and so naturally he’d retreated onto the rooftop of the Citadel. A mist had rolled over the city a few hours before, according to a weather report. It didn’t hinder his vision, but he could imagine the wisps of water vapour whirling and dancing around anything that caused the air to move. He could feel the slight refreshing wetness of the air on his skin.

For a moment, he stopped focussing on what he saw and just felt the world around him. Using slightly Force-enhanced senses, he felt the individual threads in the fabric of his robes, and the tightness of his blindfold as it clutched to his face. It was Seridan’s way of relaxing - simply being and feeling.

Alas, as he once again surveyed the city around him, he remembered all that was going on. The piracy which surrounded Seher bay, almost terrorising the shuttles which flew there. JScumm and the Agents had been deployed to rid the city of this problem. Once they were routed out and destroyed, the city could relax, hopefully.

The Disciples had gotten some interesting reports as well, about some contaminated food, defective goods and other hindrances that would take some time to sort out. Seridan didn’t like just passing off work to others - he wanted to be helping, to be taking part. He’d looked into it on the Sentinel Network, but nothing of note had come up. He just felt like all he did nowadays was delegate and decide things. He missed the times when he was part of the action.

He glanced at the time, and remembered that report he’d read earlier. Some low-level black market trader was out and about in Seher about now, near the western markets. He stood up, and jumped down to the citadel’s stone floor. This ‘courier’ would be his way to be beneficial to the house, beyond the administration.

When he reached the residential district, he climbed back onto the rooftops. The buildings here were closely spaced, and not too high, so the risk was minimal. He started dashing quietly across the roofs, working toward the markets. He noticed something: a figure in black sauntering away from a house. That must be him.

Seridan readied his tracker, then launched it towards the courier, altering its trajectory using careful telekinesis. First he’d track him, then he’d go undercover and infiltrate the local black market as this courier’s ‘friend’. He would not be useless. Not again.

Introduction

Well hello, Satellites and Shanians, and how do you do? bows

I’m Seridan, and I was BTL for the Disciples for just over a month. Before that, I was a ‘veteran’ member of Ooroo. I am fairly active, and place a focus on fiction, though I do do other stuff. This is only my second leadership position, but I shouldn’t be too bad…

I’m a 17 year-old student from London. At the moment, I’m studying the IB, which is the qualification that will get me into uni next year. I’m studying 6 subjects (Physics, Maths, Psychology, Computing, English and Russian), and also do quite a few things out of school. I play the trumpet and the keyboard, and have learnt quite a few languages, like French, Ancient Greek and British Sign Language. I also help out for my school’s musical productions as a technician. We’ve put on quite a few performances like Fame, Hairspray, among others. Last week, we put on Beauty and the Beast (6 performances in >30 degree heat… wouldn’t recommend!) and it went well, and got standing ovations for most of the performances (probably due to my fabulous lighting design :P ). (Also, yes I did just copy and paste most of that from my first DoB report…)

I am now your Aedile. It seems like our House’s creation a few months ago, we’ve gone through quite a few leaders - hopefully me and Cable can stay for the time being, giving some stability. (Whilst we’re on the subject, I’ll be on a semi-LoA next week…) Both Cable and I are British, so you can expect a lot more British humour. That’s right, there’s a ‘u’ in humour, and favourite, and colour, and neighbour :P

House Satele Shan

Right. Onto the nitty gritty stuff. This is where I’m going to talk about all the stuff we have organised for you guys and gals :)

House Satele Shan is currently missing most of its wiki page, so I’ve taken it upon myself to fix it up a bit. Ermm… that’s pretty much it. Not much news for u--

Oh wait - we’ve got an event :)

Compass of Reason: Part 2: Conflict of Interest

As the glorious banner that Mar made above shows, we’ve got ourselves a new event :)

You remember the time when we stopped the Seherob from sacrificing innocent people? Well this time, we’re talking about slavery!

The Seherob captured a number of Sith during the Invasion of New Tython a few years ago. Some of these provided advanced tech to the Seherob, and in return they now lead pretty free lives - except they can’t leave Seher. Most of them were annoying and naturally ‘unkind’ towards their captors, and so they have been chained, or branded. The Sith are still of use today, being used to provide information, or perform manual labour.

Some Jedi want this to stop. Others are just fine with it. If the Jedi do want to approach the Seherob again about their culture and laws, will it cause alarm? Outrage? Riots? What will be the outcome? Surely we can’t stop their faithful worship and deny them their servants? Or can we?

We have a number of awesome comps set up so that you guys can draw stuff, debate, game, and write about what happens! This event will begin on Monday 13th July, and will last 2 weeks. There’ll also be an awesome fiction released by Mar in the next few days, as well. Go and get ‘em, guys!

After CoR2, Cable and I have a nice and juicy storyline written, and that should be coming to you guys soon - the fiction above may hold a few tidbits of information about that…

Disciples of Baas

The Disciples now have the great Lu’aisha Gresee as their BTL. I know that Aisha will do great things for them, and she’s already got plans for the future. A few comps may be on the horizon…

“Founded during the fall of Purity Rock, the Disciples of Baas is a Battleteam of Clan Odan-Urr whose main focus is critical aide and protection of innocents throughout the galaxy. They teach with their wisdom. They defend with their lightsabers. They heal with the Force. They protect with political savvy. They are the Disciples of Baas.”

Is your character a scholar, an advocate of peace, a medic, diplomat or teacher?! Then this is the place for you! Disciples of Baas is the perfect Battleteam to join if you want to develop your character further and take an active role as one of the Jedi Masters within Arca Praxeum!

Strike-Team Ooroo

The wonderful Sentinel Shadow Jscumm leads these wonderful space ninjas. There were comps last week, which will help set the scene for future events. The wonderful Ooroo is 2 years old! Celebrate it by doing this competition!

“Founded in the wake of the Dark Crusade, Strike-Team Ooroo is a strike team of Clan Odan-Urr dedicated to preventing the oppression of the Sith - those of the Dark Jedi Brotherhood, those of the One Sith, and even any non-Sith or non-Dark Sider oppressors. Their goal is to directly fight for freedom, justice, and peace in the galaxy, and to help stabilize and secure those that they free from further oppression.”

The closest to space ninja you're gonna get folks! Strike team are for those who wish to play the stealthier types of character, you'll have all sorts to do such as undercover missions and Crime fiction.

In Closing

The Clan Summit has recently awarded loads of merit awards - and every single one was well deserved. Special shout-outs go to Ji, Aaleeshah, Zeon, Edgar, Junazee, Krandon and Aisha, for their hard work and contributions in recent months! Keep it up guys!

Only a short(ish) report this month, not much more to say. It’s been a good few months for the Clan, and in the upcoming weeks, a few House events will be going down and some nice storylines are on their way. We hope you enjoy them - after all, that’s what we’re here for, in the end. If you ever have any queries, questions, demands, complants, ideas, or ponderances, please don’t hesitate to let one of us know - we’re an understanding, open, reasonable lot, and we won’t bite :)

That’s it for this month, House!
