Plagueis Rollmaster Report #17 - Spring is Coming

Spring is Coming

Yes, it’s March and that does mean spring is in fact coming or, in some sense, is already here. I’m a couple days late, yes, and that has to do with my not feeling great the last couple days. Why? Allergies, plain and simple.

Yeah, that’s been me. So while some of you might think of flowers, robins, and bunnies (some of which bring chocolate) when it comes to this time of year, there’s only one truth I (and I imagine others) have to deal with this time of year.

Ah yes, the lovely green cloud of sneeze inducing terror. I can just see it now.

The DB is Still Here

Just because we are approaching that time of year where we (at least those of us that don’t live in climatically blessed areas like our Fearless LEader) can start venturing outside without our parkas and huskies doesn’t mean that there’s nothing to do around the DB. While we’re still in a bit of a holding pattern as Mav finishes settling into the Iron Throne, I will say there’s been some discussions as to our direction from here and some possible future events. I can’t really go much more into that at the moment, but I do think it’s highly likely we’ll have some sort of event in the next month or so.

That said, there’s still plenty going on around the clan, and there’s one particular item I wanted to touch on for our newer members. As you might know I was recently on a certain podcast we do around Plagueis. Even though I might have sparked some controversy in my ranking of the movies, the main point was about leadership in the DB. There’s one bit we didn’t really go into in the podcast that I wanted to go into here, getting into leadership. It’s a fact of life that leaders come and go for a number of reasons and for that reason we are always keeping our eye out for the next generation of leaders. While it might not be for everyone, leadership is an important thing in the club and is often well rewarded. While expressing an interest to me/the other leaders, there are specific qualities we look for in potential leaders.

  • Activity - If you’re not doing things on a regular basis, how can we expect you to set an example for those below you. You don’t necessarily have to Do All The Things (tm), but doing a lot of things is definitely a help

  • Positive Attitude - No one wants a jerk in charge or wants to work with one under them. If we see you as helpful and willing to work with people, that will go a long way.

  • Dedication - You don’t have to be amazing at fiction or the best artist to be a leader in the club, putting in the effort goes a long way. We can edit a wiki article or project proposal , but we can’t create something from nothing.

Please feel free to come to me if you have any questions on this sort of thing, I’m more than willing to discuss it with you. It’s also worth noting that clan leadership isn’t the only kind. There’s regular turn over in the Dark Council staffs, the Shadow Academy Faculty, and the ACC and Wiki staff. Working in those capacity can go a long way to showing the necessary traits we look for in clan leaders. If you see one of those positions open up and you’re interested, throw out an app. Even if you don’t get picked, you might still get some benefit out of it if, for example, a larger project is coming up and the DCer needs help beyond their staff. Heck, I was still a journeyman with no particular position when the then GM Muz approached me with my first assignment.

Reports and Happenings

  • Our illustrious new Grand Master needs a Social Media Tribune and is extending the applications for another week or so. If you’re good with the facebooks and the twitters, go apply!

  • Wally shows us Da Wey to more stuff about the Collective and how to make a corgi burrito (more corgi news in a bit). Remember what I said above? There’s some of those types of opportunities in this report.

  • HAP and HKM. One of them references one of my all time favorite jams :).

Final Musings and Moment of Zen

I’m getting the feeling some of you might be wondering why I’m suddenly into the Corgis. “That’s Wally’s thing!” and “I thought you were about seals!” you might say. Well, first off, the two aren’t mutually exclusive:

My recent corgi love comes from an event in World of Warships I had the chance to participate in, Corgi Fleet: Requim. While I’m not going to explain the giant inside joke around the name, the short version is that I got access to a special “corgi” account with special corgi flags and people got prizes for killing me in a game. It might not sound like it, but getting shot at even more than usual was amazing fun. I even got myself a new wallpaper out of the gig.

I’m going to leave off with a dual moment of Zen related to this. The first is the little send off we did for the event on the WoWS Forums. Spoiler alert, there are a lot of pictures of corgis. Pay particular attention to the locations. I’ve also been using a new set of music for both playing and writing battles and I thought I’d share the mix here.

Keep it evel mo chairde!

well done nice report.

Great report! I love seeing members dedicated and having fun!!

I hear you, Arden. I've had multiple hospitalizations and have had to wear surgical masks around this time of year. Allergies are the worst.

Reeeporrt, good one this is.

Some more podcast and Corgi love. Oh yes.

Yeap, I got up one morning to a new paint job on my car. Stay safe! Or at least keep allergy meds on you :P
