Quaestor Report #3

header

Greetings everyone and welcome to the July edition of the Satele Shan Quaestor’s report. Summer continues to be a slower period for the organization, even more so than we are used to in previous years. However, the closing of Dominion – Phase I has brought a welcomed uptick in activity and helped to keep all personnel engaged to varying degrees. The event indeed allowed for a wealth of lore development and the growth of Satele Shan’s role within the Clan and Kiast System as a whole.

The main purpose of this report is to spotlight the results of Dominion – Phase I and go into the plan moving forward for what it means for the House and further growth and build out of our lore. World building is my passion and hopefully this evolution is something we can all get excited for.

Dominion – Final Results

Dominion – Phase I was a resounding success. We had 11 total participants with 44 unique submissions. In terms of statistics that breaks down to 40% of the House membership and roughly 72% maximum participation of those involved. These are impressive numbers and very similar to the statistics we have seen in Tython Squadron events. Houses are larger, far more unwieldy units than a Battleteam. The fact we attained such a turnout speaks volumes to what we can still do, even during a “slow period”. I put our activity up there against any House within the organization and would not blink at our chances. Great work all.

Now, without further ado, we do have a special honorific award to bestow. Originally, the honorific title of Baron of Vatali Empire was to be awarded to the top finisher of the event. However, due to the sheer turnout and how close the grading was (along with a fictional purpose) there will now be TWO baronies being awarded. Congratulations to Seer Junazee and Corsair Haran “Ji” Urr.

The further growth of the Vatali Empire and its fictional control of Kiast System will be an ongoing thing. The possibility of awarding future honorific titles is still viable as is the potential to upgrade ones’ titles and fictional holdings depending on performance and activity. While there is no plan to roll out a full nobility system, the intent is for it to be an organic growth of lore and fiction and yet be restricted enough for the titles to have meaning and be a mark of prestige – not everyone will be able to attain it. Future details to follow.

Now for the BLUF of the closing fiction. Very bluntly, the summit between the representatives of the Empress Kaltani and the Indag Conclave of Daleem and Pau’an Pharma and Chem respectively has come to a close. Despite hostility from the guilds, the sheer show of force by JTF Satele Shan was enough to deescalate the situation and bring the guilds to accept a reduced autonomy. However, all sides have ulterior motives – the guilds wish to use the new baronies as a wedge between the noble families to stir up animosity within the nobility while the nobles are welcoming the check on Imperial power despite resenting not being invited to rule Daleem. For her part, the Empress is a shrewd politician – perhaps the baronies will ultimately be loyal to her more so than to Odan-Urr itself. Only time will tell, as this peace is only temporary for all sides.

Items of Note

The main action items for me, currently, has been the near immediate grading and release of Dominion – Phase I results. Again, I am very impressed with the output so thank you all who participated. Writing the closing fiction was problematic due to curtailing the depth and scope and holding it back for the second upcoming event. There is much more to explore and flesh out now that Satelites are engrained in the Vatali Empire aristocracy and opportunities abound for politics, intrigue, and warfare.

With that, I will be updating our House Wiki page to include the basis for Dominion – Phase I and adding a few notes to the Daleem Wiki page to reflect the current state of the remaining Guilds. This has been completed, but will need proper Wiki editing. Looking for volunteers!

Now that Dominion has been closed out, expect to see smaller, more self-contained competitions being released by Tyraal and Talis to keep the opportunity for activity fresh as we all build towards worthy promotions and awards and general participation in the unit.

Closing

This report has come out a bit early in order to spotlight Dominion – Phase I. Talis has released his Aedile Report a little while back spotlighting the individual efforts and promotions of our esteemed members. That general distribution of labor will be maintained for the time being. Likewise, Tyraal has just closed out his own slate of competitions within Tython Squadron. Things are trending up, and the activity count from Dominion – Phase I attests to our numbers being where they should be for events of this size and scope.

However, as always, there is much WE can all do. All members can suggest ideas for further events and can submit competitions to generate more activity and opportunity for furthering the narrative and allow people to compete for awards and recognition. Simple things like building a personal wiki page and getting involved in Telegram are great ways to start. In this club you get back what you put in.

With that, this report comes to a close. Be on the look-out for upcoming Clan-level event later this Summer potentially and Dominion – Phase II to close out this story arc and set the new baseline.
