Regent Report #10: All Ur Base R Belong To Us

Noobis Regent

Hello everyone,

Welcome to the launch of Release: Planetary Assets.

Regent Seperator

All Ur Base R Belong To Us

Planetary assets are here! This is the biggest update to Clan purchasing choices in years, and we're happy it's completed. First, thanks where thanks is due.

A huge thanks to both Thran Palpatine and Selika di Plagia on this project. Because of these two extraordinary members and their dedication to excellence and the members of this club, this project (which was initially started under our previous Regent, Thane "Atra" Skotos) went from not likely to launch until late this year at the earliest to launching in the first couple months of the year, and within my first year as Regent. This is a major accomplishment for the Regent Staff, and I couldn't be prouder. So thank you, guys.

Second, a little rundown on this release. I'm not going to list every new prototype we've added in this report, as you can easily find every single one in the same store and filter out the type of planetary assets you want to see using the filter/search button. Every Planetary Asset, whether a small turret or base or shield generator, will be sold by the new clan store Antares Construction Group. This store is now available for shopping by clan summits. Go oogle.

There are several new item types and subsequent categories being added to the system:

  • Planetary Bases
    • Fortifications
    • Modular Garrisons
    • Spaceports
  • Base Weaponry
    • Ground Weapons
    • Orbital Weapons
  • Defense Shields
    • Area Shields
    • Planetary Shields
  • Orbital Defenses
    • Orbital Platforms
    • Orbital Systems

Space Stations were already a thing used in possessions prior to the launch of projects, so they were not included in that list. There has been however a slew of new stations added to the system, and like every other planetary asset these items can be found in Antares Construction Group. They will no longer be sold by Arx Fleet Systems.

Costing

Planetary Bases (in the grand scheme of things) cost nearly nothing to buy. This was done to ensure that we aren't stifling the clans from using their existing locations within their dominions, or discouraging them from creating new ones if they want. Instead, the cost has been shifted to the rest of Planetary Assets. Clans will still have the ability to kit out their bases for cheap, depending on what they want, but the big ticket items will cost big (as they should). Summits who look at the Planetary Bases cosmetic aspect will find a list of pre-written, general aspects that have been created to give an idea of the assortment of things you can use planetary bases for. These are not super specific, and we encourage every summit to specifically detail their specific locations using custom aspects to really make them their own.

Slotting

Dominions have had their slotting updated to reflect this release. The slot sizes in regards to Planetary Assets are as follows:

  • Asteroids
    • Ground Assets: 2
    • Space Assets: 50
  • Moons
    • Ground Assets: 75
    • Space Assets: 75
  • Planets
    • Ground Assets: 100
    • Space Assets: 100
  • Star Systems (for defense of a star itself)
    • Space Assets: 50

Ground Assets consist of:

  • Planetary Bases
  • Base Weaponry
  • Planetary Shields

Space Assets consist of:

  • Orbital Defenses
  • Space Stations

Planetary Bases each have their own size as well for slotting purposes:

  • Outpost: 1
  • Small Spaceport: 2
  • Base/Modular Garrisons: 3
  • Large Spaceport: 4
  • Headquarters: 5

The items themselves have also been given slot sizes, tiered to their actual size. This is to ensure we don't see craziness like a Hypervelocity gun being equipped to something like an outpost, and keeping in mind that most asteroids are small when compared to a moon or planet (and therefore will only be able to accomodate up to a small spaceport planetary base).

Credit Grant

And now the question all summits have been waiting to see an answer for. Will there be a credit grant to the clans with the completion of this project?

The answer is yes.

A total sum of 200 million credits (pretty well a 25% increase) has been granted to each of the seven clans, which will allow them to make proper use of this new release with the total value of their credit accounts. As I have said before, clans will not be able to buy bases and give them all super-powerful ridiculous things for every location, and this was the intention; clans still need something to build toward, and this carries that forward while not devaluing the yearly lump-sum grants clans receive from vendettas.

Important Notes

A couple important things to note about this release:

  • The Golan M135 Space Station from Rogue One has had the planetary shield generator removed, it's now just a big space station that clans can slot a shield of whatever strength they want to purchase into it. The point of this was to reduce the cost of the station substantially, as including the basically impenetrable planetary shield would have skyrocketed the price by over half a dozen hundred million of credits. Now clans as they build credits can slowly upgrade their Golan M135 with stronger shields, which actually makes the station itself much more flexible.
  • You'll have noticed once browsing the store, there are no actual construction shipyard prototypes in this release. After a lot of discussion amongst the staff (which includes a Proconsul, two Consuls, and a person responsible for managing his clan's purchases) the decision was made to axe these items in favor of helping keep the Brotherhood's feudal system intact (the main reason why the Brotherhood fleet is as small as it is, capable of taking out 3-4 clans on its own but not able to withstand an attack by every clan at once) by having clans require use of Arx Captial Exchange facilities for their larger ships, which includes Mattock Station and four new Telgorn Corp Repair Yards. Bubba and Evant have signed off on this approach, as well. We have included the Telgorn Corp Repair Yard for purchase by clans, which will allow clans to do general repairs on vessels 600m or smaller (see prototype description for details). Undoubtedly some will not be happy about this decision, but that's how the system has been intended to work from the get-go (even if it is mostly ignored by some).

Dominion Policy

As a reminder, the Dominion Policy when launched covered "future Planetary Assets and existing assets such as space stations" in preparation for this project. As the policy states, if a type of item exists in possessions and you don't own it, then you don't actually have it. The wording on this document has been updated to include the new item types, bringing it to version 1.1.

Ongoing Projects

Armor Upgrades

Armor upgrades have been completed and submitted for final approval to Evant and Bubba. Once approved, we'll make some time to implement them. While we wait on approval for these upgrades, the staff has started work on Land Vehicle Upgrades to make sure we've always got something going on.

Land Vehicle Upgrades

The last of the initial launch for member facing upgrades, now that we're awaiting approval to implement Bentre has already started on this project, taking a look at existing space vehicle upgrades to see what does or doesn't fit for a land vehicle and axing those that don't. From there, we'll build a list of additions to add for the members.

Masterwork Possessions

There has been a little progress on this project since the last update, but it's mostly been put on the backburner until planetary assets were completed and implemented. Now that planetary assets are good to go, I'll continue plugging away on this project while the XP project continues to be worked on by other DCers.

Faction Possessions

This project is roughly at the half way point. Thran has comprised new possessions updates for the Severian Principate and Dark Brotherhood, which have already been implemented (only shuttles and fighters remain for DB possessions, with naming still to be done on assets that worked their way over from the SP) with Bubba and Idris signing off as we go along to make sure we're staying kosher and not going overboard. The Arx System has been added to possessions, with a minimal amount of planetary assets for basic defense of the planet itself and Eos City. Next on the docket are the Tenixir Revenants and The Collective's possessions, after which we can call this project a wrap.

Booster Releases

The next Regent Staff Booster Release is coming along nicely, with most of the staff already having contributed something to it at this point. We're hoping to see a couple member suggested items added, as well as some missing items from The Mandalorian and Book of Bobba Fett. There's no timetable for release on this booster just yet, but we're getting to the point where I'm almost comfortable submitting it for GM/DGM review.

Planned Projects

Space Vehicle Review

At some point the Regent Staff is going to do a review of all existing member ships, and make determinations where we feel is due to make clan versions of these vessels. The T-5 Deliverance has already made its way into the clan stores as a flight, This is something that we'll be doing once our schedule clears up a bit and major projects are off the docket.

Land Vehicle Review

One thing I've noticed going through land vehicles in the system is an inconsistency in their wording. Some are written in the same format as space vehicles, listing armament and complement in their own sections, while others don't. To ensure system uniformity and consistency for a better member experience, the Regent Staff will conduct a full review of land vehicles present in possessions to align the way the descriptions are written with space vehicles.

Clan Fleet Upgrade Expansion

I'm planning on the Regent Staff implementing a massive expansion to the Clan Fleet Upgrade item type, which will allow clans an additional method of spending their cold hard credits in the form of purchasable upgrades for their capital ships. At this time, the only Clan Fleet Upgrades in the system are the unique Artifact rarity upgrades awarded for vendettas. This will cease to be a thing, and going forward Legendary rarity upgrades will be rewarded for those events. Purchasable upgrades will range from Uncommon to Epic in rarity, keeping in line with the capital ship rarities that Clans have the credits/ability to purchase.

I'm about to bankrupt Tal, aren't I?

Jokes aside, excellent report, Noobis!

And there went my day off.... I have been looking forward to this release for a while. Great job on explaining everything. Now off I go to the rabbit hole.

Wow, sweet.

So glad this has come to fruition! Nice work, team!

Excellent work guys! Love the updates!

We need more vespene gas!

Thanks for the update Regent Staff!

This update is so based.

(All your base are belong to us)

Awesome update to the system! Nice work

Question: In reference to spaceports (both large and small) How many ships can each accommodate? We've seen Mos Eisley and we've seen Coruscant. One can take a lot of ships (Docking bay 94 for instance) and one can take hundreds (presumably). How man can each of these accommodate?
