Regent Report #18

Noobis Regent

Hello friends!

The Regent Staff has completed implementation of our newest project Capital Ship Upgrades, and Arx Fleet Systems has been reopened for sales and purchase.

Capital Ship Upgrades

This was always a project that I wanted to see come to light, and now it's finally here: the ability for the various clans to really make their fleets unique beyond an armada of bog standard ships that most people don't care about. With this project now implemented, it is our hope that fleet sizes might stop increasing at such an exponential and eventually unsustainable rate (as the DB and other faction fleets sizes are a direct correlation/response to that of the seven clans), members and clans can become invested in their vessels, and open new areas of storytelling and use of clan fleets can be realized. Unique ships from the pre-possessions fleets can even be resurrected.

We got (at least) 99 upgrades, and Ludicrous Speed is one of 'em.

LUDICROUS SPEED, GO!

Jokes aside, there's a large variety of different upgrades available for clans to purchase: everything from crew upgrades to electronic warfare upgrades to better weapons and even (gasp) gravity well generators, so summits can apply a variety of upgrades to everything from their corvettes to their destroyers. Every capital ship in our system (yes, that includes specialty ship classes for The Collective, Tenixir Revenants, and Children of Mortis >:)) has a Capital Ship Upgrade slot. This slot varies in size depending on what category of capital ship the vessel is, and clan summits can slot however many upgrades they want that can fit into that slot.

The slot sizes for each category are:

  • Corvette: 4
  • Frigate: 6
  • Cruiser: 8
  • Destroyer: 10
  • Dreadnaught: 20

The way Capital Ship Upgrades work for the actual item sizes is a little weird, but easy to master. Like every other upgrade in our system, we had to account for both item rarity and upgrade rarity per usual, but we also had to take into account the different possible vessel sizes associated with the different classes of capital ship - afterall, you wouldn't be able to fit two gravity well generators or two dozen turbolasers on a Corvette. To try and keep things relatively simple, we've also tiered certain upgrades with different versions (Turbolasers I-III as an example), with each tier increasing in size. So while you can slot several Corvette upgrades into a Destroyer, it doesn't work the other way around.

The best rule of thumb for clan summits if they're looking for upgrades for your clan's capital ship is to click on *Manage" beside the item in question, attempt to slot an item, and browse the list available for that item just like you would a personal space vehicle or land vehicle . That will prevent any non-compatible upgrades from being displayed. If you have any unslotted Capital Ship Upgrade Rewards from vendettas, it'll try to slot these first and not give you that prompt.

There are four main different types of Capital Ship Upgrades, each set to a certain rarity and designed to correlate with the rarity of ships available for purchase by clans:

  • Capital Ship Upgrade I: Uncommon rarity. Can be slotted in Uncommon, Rare, or Epic capital ships.
  • Capital Ship Upgrade II: Rare rarity. Can be slotted in Rare or Epic capital ships.
  • Capital Ship Upgrade III: Uncommon rarity. Can be slotted in Uncommon, Rare, or Epic capital ships.
  • Capital Ship Upgrade Reward: Legendary or Artifact rarity. Can be slotted in Uncommon, Rare, or Epic ships.

The only exception to the prior sentences regarding purchasing and upgrade sizes are Capital Ship Upgrade Rewards. These are granted by the Regent after a vendetta and are not purchasable, and every Clan Fleet Upgrade Reward has an item size of 1 to allow it and as many other upgrades as possible to be slotted in your capital ships. Item sizes for Capital Ship Upgrades run from 1-8.

You can purchase these upgrades using the previous method, by filtering out Capital Ship Upgrade under Item Category in the Item Research search filter, or direct by browsing the stock of Arx Fleet Systems. By far the most stressful part of this project was trying to nail the sweet spot for pricing; not too low that clans would be able to buy the best of the best for every ship, but not too high that they wouldn't want to invest whatsoever.

The list of Capital Ship Upgrades available at launch can be found at this link that I'm making super long so people can see it, but we don't want to stop there; if there's an upgrade that a clan summit wishes to see added to the system, we are willing to work with them to make that possible as long as it remains reasonable, Star Wars-y, and within the realm of realism.

Clan summits should drop us a line on the Regent Staff Mailing List with the things (including details) of things they'd be interested in and we can discuss making that a possibility.

In-Progress Projects

Content Reviews

  • Mandalorian Content Review
  • Confederacy of Independent Systems Content Review
  • High Republic Content Review

The Regent Staff has completed its review of C.I.S. content, and items deemed acceptable by myself and Evant/Bubba for addition will be trickling out in our Booster Releases (including the Droideka in the Celebration Store because I'm a man of my word, and Von's entry placed second in the Life Day Celebration Store Item competition). With season 3 of The Mandalorian on the horizon it's a little hard to say that our Mandalorian/Book of Boba Fett content review is complete, but we all look forward to seeing what fun comes from that. Our High Republic content review remains ongoing.

Masterwork Possessions

With the XP system now being implemented by the ever amazing CodeGod, this project has begun picking up steam again. Most of the Masterwork item prototypes have been completed (there will be over 150 at launch), and before the staff can really hammer down on the theoretical details like how much each item should cost and at what XP thresholds Masterwork currency will be granted, I've engaged with James on what is and is not possible for implementation before we get too deep into the water. His responses will have a massive effect on this project.

Booster Releases

The Regent Staff is committed to bringing new content to the Brotherhood's possessions system from existing and new Star Wars media. Our next Booster Release is (once again, the same as the last time I included this in my reports) currently before the GM/DGM for their review, and once past that stage we'll set a date to implement it and bring some new items into the possessions system. Included are two items proposed by members using the Item Prototype Approval Policy!

I've already worked out and completed the new additions for Star Wars Celebration 2023 in a separate document. It is truly painful to know what's coming months in advance and have to wait. Current and former Regent Staff members know this pain.

Epic Capital Ships Expansion

The imminent launch of Capital Ship Upgrades caused the Regent Staff to take a look at exactly what ships at each rarity are available for purchase, and we found slim pickings when it came to Epic-rarity capital ships. At that point, I decided we'd make expanding that list with base cost Epic-rarity capital ships (either a suite of tailored Brotherhood classes produced by Arx Capital Exchange, special edition versions of existing ships like we've done with member ships, or a combination of both. This project is not high priority, but it is on our list and occasionally being worked on.

Oh boyyyy

Hell yes droidekas

I am excited about the Capital Ship upgrades. This can get clans back to the really cool stuff we had before Possessions and make ships important again instead of just throwing them away or retconning the fleets.
