The shuttle silently made its approach to the Nexus of Light. If not for the scenery outside the viewports, its passengers would not have even known they were moving. It had barely even vibrated when it broke through the planet’s atmosphere.

For as silent the shuttle itself was, its passengers buzzed in a quietly excited fervor. New friends, faces, brothers, and sisters all as the newest recruits to the Children of Mortis, heralded as soon-to-be Lightbringers; whatever that exactly meant, they didn’t know, only that they would be following in the footsteps of a thousand generations before them.

Saira O’Setera had not taken her eyes away from the viewport she sat beside since the ship had cleared into the atmosphere of Pendroh-I.

Next to her one of the other recruits leaned forward to look out the viewport as well.

“Really is incredible. I don’t think I will ever want to leave,” Qru Avajor whispered in Saira’s ear. Saira nodded absentmindedly. For hours now the two had discussed in hushed voices what their new lives would be like. And now it was finally here. Deep sapphire oceans gave way to sandy beaches, which transitioned into rolling hills of grass and finally into a deep, dense green forest.

The shuttle banked, and for a moment Saira and Qru were able to see their new home. The Nexus of Light was nestled high in the Jiplo Mountain range, shining like a beacon welcoming all those who knew the warm, peaceful embrace of the Light Side of the Force.

The castle complex itself was massive, flanked on both sides by the rivers that fell off the cliffside into thousand-foot-high waterfalls, which caught the light, spreading beautiful rainbows all day long. The stained glass windows shimmered in the sunlight as the shuttle softly landed in the main courtyard.

Summary

• Bright-eyed new recruits join the Lightbringers! This includes Saira O’Setera and Qru Avajor, who became friends while on transport to The Nexus of Light.
• The leader of the Lightbringers, The Harbinger of the Light welcomes them all, and gives the new recruits a tour of the Nexus.
• Apprentice O’Setera experiences a slight chill when locking eyes with The Harbinger.
• Elsewhere, in The Halls of Balance, Novice Ernesto Hayes trips in a hallway.
• He has a brief conversation with the leader of the Truthwardens, The Arbiter of Balance himself, also known as Loremi P’sum.
• Hayes also speaks with Loremi’s husband, Dolori s’Amet.
• Hayes explains he is providing background scans on the new recruits, and that something flagged one of the new Lightbringers.
• Elsewhere, in the dirt and grime of a slave market, Kikiri wishes for retribution against those who have wronged her.
• A woman appears, sent by The Seer in the Darkness to recruit Kikiri into the Shadowseers.
• The woman buys Kikiri’s freedom and allows her to kill her most recent master, Othyl.

Hello everyone! I hope you all enjoyed the first chapter of Shadows Unveiled! These fiction releases will provide insight into the lives the Children of Mortis, how they are structured, and ultimately what their goals are.

I am very excited to say that the fiction competition Who are the Children? was a great success with all clans (and the DC) participating. There were some very fun fictions in there, and I very much enjoyed seeing different ideas about what the Children actually are. As promised for meeting the threshold I am revealing more information about the Children than I would have.

The Children of Mortis, are led by the enigmatic Father, who has split control of the faction into three main groups. The Lightbringers who study the ways of the Light Side, and are under the command of The Harbinger of the Light. The Truthwardens are led by The Arbiter of Balance and seek to resolve the conflicting mentalities between the extreme ends of the Force. And finally The Shadowseers, a dark and mysterious sect under the control of The Seer in the Darkness.

As part of this, I have constructed the “web” image as seen above. Yes I stole this from the recent Assassin Creed games. This has been designed to be updated as the different leaders and sub-groups of the Children are revealed.
