Taldryan Consul Report: April 2021

header

The office’s other occupants turned inquisitively toward their Consul as she poked the button to accept the call, and a holographic image appeared above her desk—a goateed human man with dark, piercing eyes. Each of the gathered crowd exchanged looks as they saw Erinyes wince, swallow visibly, and force a smile.

“Hi, Muz. I was just talking about you.”

“Erinyes.” The former Grand Master’s eyebrows furrowed almost imperceptibly. “The Force warned me of a threat to my Clan. What did you do?”

Holy crap, the last three and a half months have just flown by. I didn’t intend for my first report of 2021 to take nearly this long, but at least we have plenty to talk about!

DB News

This is all old news by now, but for the sake of covering it somewhere:

  • Mav has finished his term as Grand Master and been awarded a Golden Lightsaber (finally).
  • Evant has become Grand Master in Mav’s place.
  • Bubba/Dacien has moved from Justicar to Deputy Grand Master.
  • Atra has moved from Regent to Justicar.
  • Selika/Slagar resigned from Herald, and was promoted to Master/EL2 on the way out.
  • Alaisy replaced Slagar as Herald.
  • Our very own Rian replaced Alaisy as Praetor to the Herald.
  • Our very own Kereban Zolar/Bale/Beardhulk has been hired as Praetor to the Deputy Grand Master. (Unfortunately, he transferred out of Taldryan shortly thereafter in order to focus on his DB-wide responsibilities. He’ll be back someday, though, I’m sure of it.)
  • Headmistress Ciara (my other boss) got promoted to Adept/EL1.
  • Regent is currently vacant, and the application period has already closed.

Thanks to Mav and Slagar for their service, congrats to all the newly-appointed/awarded/promoted/transferred DC and staff members, and best of luck to the Regent applicants!

Equally importantly, there is talk of a Vendetta in the air. It’s going to be a Rite of Supremacy, and it’s coming within the next couple of months. Stay tuned for more details!

Speaking of major DB-wide comps, the Shadow Academy-sponsored ACC competition, SARLACC, wrapped up a little over a week ago. Turel, our Combat Master, put out a very detailed results post which I encourage you all to read (or at least look at the pictures). Congrats to Alaisy for winning the event, and to Appius and Andrelious for making the top ten!

And, on the subject of actually-new news: Ronovi, Dread Lord of Plagueis, has announced her resignation. Nooo! But seriously, I wish her all the best in the next phase of her DB career, whatever that might be.

Aggressively Expanding Our Medal Collections

Phase II of our Clan event Aggressive Expansion wrapped up in early March, with delays in getting the results out because RL and other DB priorities interfered with the grading. Belatedly, here are the results from those four events:

  • Fiction: Andrelious (1st), Appius (2nd), Zentru’la (3rd)
  • Gaming (Squadrons): Shanree/Vodo (1st), Benevolent (2nd), Raistline (3rd)
  • Graphics: Rian (1st), Aylin (2nd), Zentru’la (3rd)
  • Puzzle: Dasha (1st), Aylin (2nd), Zentru’la (3rd)

Congrats to everyone who placed in the Phase II events! Since I know a fair number of you were waiting for the fiction update that would wrap up this competition and lead into the next, you can also check out the entire Aggressive Expansion fiction thread here. If you were already caught up, you can see the latest wrap-up post here.

Our Members Are Awesome

We (Xolarin and I) also finished our Q1 2021 awards review, and we have a few fun announcements to make on that front. First, congratulations to Tracinya Beviin Entar on the promotion to Battlelord/EQ3!

Second, my previous reports have mentioned the Gatekeeper and Lorekeeper positions handed out to the members who are most active in gaming and fiction. Those positions will be renamed, becoming the resurrected Cohors Praetoria Taldryae, and will be given to the two most active non-Summit members of the Clan in a given quarter. This report was supposed to mark the announcement of the new Cohors, but I’ve run into some technical difficulties with the spreadsheet I use to calculate that activity, so I’ll send out a supplemental report with those names over the weekend.

Inter-Clan News, aka This Thing We’re Supposedly Doing With CNS

Quick note for Combat Writing participants: the physical descriptions for Jeele Daival and Lantha Kiminn have been updated, in case you need to factor those into your submissions.

Before I go any further, I feel like I owe an apology to the members of Clans Naga Sadow and Taldryan. The Summits of your Clans had planned to publicise this event far earlier and to a much greater degree than we ended up doing. That publicity gap, and the delay in the beginning of the fiction events, was because I had assured Bentre, DarkHawk, and Xolarin that I’d get those things done and ended up dropping the ball because of RL commitments. So, I’m sorry for that lapse, and I hope you still find this event fun in spite of it.

Our joint event with Clan Naga Sadow, Unchained Malady, started on March 27. It’s currently scheduled to run until April 25, though we may extend that by a few days to account for the delay in starting the fiction events. You can find the umbrella competition listing here. There are a total of ten sub-events, including all the usual highlights (solo fiction, gaming, graphics, Flash gaming), as well as a small-group run-on option where members of Naga Sadow and Taldryan can team up with people from the other Clan along with their own.

In light of the publicity goof leading up to this event, many of you (particularly CNS members who are participating in it) are probably asking, “Who are the Unchained, and why do I care about them?” The short answer is that they’re a different breed of Sith who are hell-bent on destroying the Brotherhood’s way of life. One of their leaders has a bone to pick with Bentre, another is a sociopathic crusader, and both of them have enough firepower at their disposal to make them really dangerous to the Clans they’ve decided to attack.

You can find more information on them on the Unchained Wiki entry. Note that as of this report, the wiki article is NOT actually finished, but was posted while underway because some information is better than none. The CNS and Taldryan Summits are also working on a fiction update that will give a more detailed explanation of the circumstances around the Unchained attack on the Orian System, which we hope to release early this weekend. For the story of the Unchained’s first interactions with Taldryan, you can check out the Aggressive Expansion fiction thread I linked earlier in the report, as well as the latest PulseFeed updates for CNS and Taldryan.

That's it for this edition of the Taldryan Consul Report. Thanks for reading, and we'll see you next time!
