Vacation on Hoth Closing Fiction and Results

This marks the end of the Vacation on Hoth event. You can find the opening fiction here. You can find the midpoint fiction here. Below you can read the closing fiction and see the event results.

Closing Fiction

The aftermath was its own sight to behold. Discarded food and drink containers of every kind littered the ground, sat on every available surface, and floated in the hot tubs with varying levels of leftover consumable on, in, and around them. The occasional lost garment of clothing was stuck to the icy ground after being soaked with tub water or whatever spilled drink. Former liquids and semi-solids of varied unknown compositions were also scattered throughout and frozen in a horrific artscape that spoke to the intensity of the party thrown in celebration of Clan Plagueis’ final night on Hoth. The nearby obstacle course was painted much the same, though with a fair bit more blood frozen to it. Perched atop the highest point in the course, the apex of a climbing exercise, stood Furios Morega di Plagia and Azmodius Equesinfernum as they surveyed the results of their handiwork.

“Not a bad run, don't you think?” the latter mused. “Hoth was a pretty good pick.”

“Not bad at all,” the former replied. “Almost reminds me of my training on Morroth.”

“You didn't have hot tubs on Morroth… or even real food, much less several buffets.”

“I got to eat ice wyrm steaks,” Furios offered. “For several weeks.”

“Only because you hunted down and killed the bloody thing,” Az retorted.

“Well I was familiar with where it was weakest and its hunting patterns.”

“Yeah, because you studied them for the Summit. How long did you spend freezing your tail off on that mission?”

The Epicanthix pondered the half-rhetorical question for a moment. “I dunno, maybe six months or so.”

A period of silence settled between the two Sith as they continued to look out over the Hoth Arctic Training camp. After a few moments the Warlord broke it. “Quite the frozen crucible, Morroth… I almost wish the Clan could go back.”

“I don't, at least not based on what you've told me about the place.”

Furios shrugged. “It wasn't all that bad. I like to think I'm stronger for it.”

The pair of Sith descended the icy construct and returned to the camp to check out the aftermath up close. It only further proved to be a hot mess on a cold planet. Broken bottles and shattered dishes were strewn all over the mess hall, accompanied by the food and drink that they’d contained. The bunks had been ravaged by sentient and non-sentient alike, leaving smashed furniture and damaged appliances strewn about. Most of the hot tubs seemed to be still operating, filtering out any contaminants that had mixed in with the warm water and preventing themselves from being frozen over. The only one that did have its contents turned to ice was the tub filled with hot cocoa, which someone had irately electrocuted out of commission with Force lightning. All in all, this wasn't the wanton destruction of your average out of control party. It was far too savage, too aggressive, too Plagueian.

After they finished their walkthrough of the post-party pandemonium, the taller of the two tapped a few buttons on his wrist communicator and hailed the Geirskogul in orbit. “Send down the cleanup crews, Plan Aurek,” he commanded before closing the line.

“Plan Aurek? So this is the amount of damage you expected?” Azmodius asked.

“More or less.”

“Well what would it take for Plan Besh?”

The Aedile of House Ventress replied with a bemused smile. “Casualties.”

THE END

Vacation on Hoth Results

I want to start by thanking everyone who participated in the event. It’s been a long time since the Vacation on Mustafar and so this was a good opportunity for me to learn some new lessons related to running events in this era and to remind myself of others I’d forgotten. Additionally, I want to emphasize that although my name is all over this event, Azmodius contributed equally, running half of the competitions. Without him, this event would not have been the same and you might not have enjoyed it as much. All in all, I consider the Vacation on Hoth to have been a successful entry to the Vacation series and I can’t wait to drag the Clan somewhere new in the future.

Now let’s get down to business.

VoH_end

You’ve all done your best and survived the Hoth Arctic Training (H.A.T.) with most of your limbs intact. Nobody died of hypothermia or frostbite, nobody ate the yellow snow, and nobody completely impaled themselves on an icicle. These are quite the amazing feats and you should all feel proud of yourselves for what you’ve accomplished. Amidst the flurry of frozen desserts, hot treats, and dangerous exercises, I got to enjoy some wonderful entries across the spread of competitions and had some tough decisions to make when grading. While sitting in my hot cocoa hot tub, I saw that there was a lot of good, strong activity put on display, but in the end, someone had to be crowned Hottest Plagueian on Hoth (temperature speaking, of course).

I have to say it. The hat TuQ/took the H.A.T.! pause for laugh track

That being said, I’d like to extend a big Congratulations! to TuQ’uan, Tahiri, and J’Kast on their placements. It was a good showing of activity and I’m proud of everyone who participated. I’d also like to give a shoutout to everyone who achieved a top-10 placement. Az and I got a good total of 106 entries from 11 unique participants. All things considered, this is what I would consider a good turnout for a mini-event that I threw together haphazardly. Though this isn’t quite as prolific as previous Vacations, those were a different time and I’m still quite happy with these results. I’m definitely looking forward to sharing more Vacation on REDACTED madness with the Ascendant Clan next time.

Finally

Lessons Learned/Remembered:

  • Blind grading, although it does reinforce grading impartiality, should not be used for events as it makes it impossible to compile results. Thank you, Howie.

  • Team competitions for Graphics/Multimedia require specific grading procedures if you don’t require all participating members to have a submission.

  • Dates were kind of awkward. Need to revisit some ideas on that.

  • Double check your flash game competitions so that the game and submission requirements match.

Awesome event! Thank you Furios and Azmodius for hosting these fun vacations! <3 <3 <3
