Another great match in the Championship tournament! I really liked the contrast between the posts here. Sometimes writers that have different styles cause a clash that makes battle have a strange tone shift between posts that makes things kind of difficult to follow. There was definitely a style clash here, but in this case, I thought it worked well to show the inner workings of both characters. We had humor. We had action. We had drama and a family reunion. We had a ton of scored fur and angry Ewok noises. All in all, a very enjoyable read and I commend you both n a job well done. Let's get to the score breakdown. As you're going to see, this is another very close battle. I marked you both equal in Syntax, Realism, and Creativity. The only place where your scores differed was in Story. Ultimately, I felt like Corinna told a story that pulled me in just a bit more than Tasha's did. That's not to say that Tasha's story wasn't good. It was quite good, but I loved the inclusion of Kazzik by Corinna and the running prodigal son feel to her side of the story. In the end, a solid effort by both of you, but Corinna moves on to the next round.

endor

Located within the Moddell Sector of the Outer Rim territories, the Endor system is a well known location of much importance to the Galactic Civil War. This was the location of the destruction of the second Death Star, and the deaths of both Emperor Palpatine and Darth Vader. It was this victory and this location that allowed the Rebel Alliance to become the New Republic.

The Forest Moon of Endor, designated IX3244-A, is the ninth moon of the planet Endor. Its surface is covered in dense forests of redwood trees. Several of these trees were connected via wood plank bridges and walkways by the local Ewok population, who made their homes within the trees, high above the forest floor.

You have arrived at night. The thick foliage of the trees blocks out almost all external light sources, making it very difficult to see without naturally or artificially enhanced vision, or at least some kind of light. The sounds of nearby streams can be heard, as well as the chirps of thousands of nearby insects and birds. As you begin to settle into the business that brought you here, the loud, startling “TOOO-ROOOO!” of some kind of horn rang out nearby... then another in the distance, and another.

“Of all the karking places Vincent sends me…”

Stumbling a bit through the dense redwood forest of Endor on the back of her beloved companion Varashi, Tasha’Vel struggled for a moment. The thick, reaching darkness from the canopy above prevented the moonlight from shining down to illuminate the path. Only the soft calls of birds and crickets could be heard.

“TOOO ROOO!” Suddenly, loud horns blared from higher up the redwoods, traveling quite a distance.

“Damn you, Vincent.” She then patted Varashi’s neck. “Guess we are not gonna be alone for long. Let’s see if I can do this; if we are to survive, we need some light.” She searched the ground and found a branch of suitable size to use as a torch. Concentrating on the end of the branch, a small spark lit up the stick and began to burn. Slowly, after a few minutes, she had light.

“Well, he never said this job was easy.”

Dismounting from Varashi, Tasha’Vel took out Morra’s Vengeance and hacked the larger leaves down as she moved through the forest with her companion behind her, holding the makeshift torch in her hand. Just as she moved aside the leaves, she came face to face with a small creature wearing Mandalorian armor. Startled badly, Tasha’Vel smacked it in the face with her torch.

“Faka bratiiin! Pritka! Pritka!” It shouted in Ewokese as it quickly backed up from her and growled waving the spear it had in its hand.

“What in the Nine Hells! A Mandalorian Ewok? Great, and I don’t even know Ewokese; this is gonna be just lovely. Hey, I am sorry you scared me. Do you understand Basic?”

“Fraza koonatzgah!” It nodded to her.

Tasha’Vel sighed. “This is gonna be fantastic. Hey so I am just trying to get out of this place. Think you can help me? You look like you are capable of-” A spear shot out from above and landed beside the Sith. Sensing immediate danger, she sprinted back to Varashi with the torch in hand. As she looked above, the Twi'lek could see many golden and amber eyes peering out of the trees at her while a shower of arrows suddenly rained down.

“Oh, what a glorious karking day this is! Vincent, I am gonna kill you when I get back.”

Swiftly, she darted out of range and jumped onto Varashi as shouts and growls in Ewokese from the horde of angry Ewoks echoed through the canopy tops and followed her.

"CHIBA CHIBA SOHPA!"

“Not good, so not good.”

The Mandalorian Ewok was also pursuing her. Tasha'Vel had no idea of its friendliness, but now was not the time to stop and talk. Looking upwards, she saw that higher up the redwood trees, there were several wooden catwalks. Directing Varashi, she grinned. “Climb Varashi and get us up there. I have an idea.” Looking at the Mandalorian-garbed Ewok, Tasha’Vel threw out her right hand and concentrated hard, lifting the now startled Ewok from the ground and bringing it up with her. As Chikma rose up from the ground, the Ewok held onto the spear for dear life.

“Warrppsll!” The Varactyl dashed and leaped onto the side of a nearby redwood. It scrambled up to the wooden catwalk just as the small horde of Ewoks arrived.

“Take this!”

Setting down the torch for a moment, Tasha'Vel flung her hands forward and sent Chikma hurtling right into the horde, plunging several to their doom as the Mercenary became a living bowling ball and finally stopped after mowing down several Ewoks in the process. Looking about, Chikma found themselves a little dizzy but still intact; however, now the rest of the Ewok horde left looked pissed.

Chikma squealed as he tumbled down the catwalk.

“Squeee!”

His helmet’s multi-frequency target acquisition system went berserk, telemetry alerts spinning around the edges like the slot machines he frequented on Baime. As he slammed into a support post, a red banner blinked across the center of his blurred vision.

Impact imminent.

Somewhere below the treeline, one last Ewok fell with a descending cry: “Yubbb…”

“Sorry!” Tasha’Vel’s voice echoed from behind, distinctly lacking in regret. “Nothing personal, little guy!”

His ears twitched inside his helmet. Little. A black scorch mark marred one side of his helmet. The Twi’lek had hit him with a torch. In the face. Then she’d called him “it.” And, to top it all off, she’d thrown him like a bowling ball at his own people.

He’d show her what it meant to be a Sky Warrior.

Chikma sat up. Two dozen silhouettes ringed the wooden bridge, camouflaged against the foliage and night sky but tinged orange by his visor’s thermal vision. The counter in the corner ticked down to twenty-three as, he imagined, a heat signature cooled to blue on the forest floor. He turned his head, the varactyl a bright red bonfire with feathers. The torch guttered on the planks, quickly fading. But there was only a hole where the Twi’lek should have been. No heat signature.

An arrow slapped his chestplate. His plasma shield flared, swallowing the projectile whole. Dee fratta chu. N’la mo. That’s one charge; five more. Another arrow whizzed by his head, followed by a plunk as the Sith swatted it out of the air with her blade, cursing the Combat Master the whole time.

The Mandalorian stood. He raised both paws and removed his helmet to reveal a mix of russet and sandy fur, a jagged scar under his left eye, and three notches in his right ear.

“Oh hheneheh!” he exclaimed the traditional Ewokese preface to a tribal announcement.

“...Chikma?” A squat, broad Ewok called out, pushing through the horde and holding out a scrap of dented durasteel on a cord.

Chikma recognized that piece of scrap metal. The same cut of pendant in beskar hung around his own neck.

“Cousin Chikma? Fell-off-the-shrine Chikma?!” the Ewok continued in Ewokese as the others scratched their heads.

“Kazzik!” Chikma embraced his cousin.

“I lost a bet on how long he’d last out there in the big, wide galaxy,” Kazzik said as he pulled away from the hug, hands still planted on Chikma’s shoulders. “But the Sky Warrior came back!”

“Just for now,” Chikma said. He jerked his head toward the edge of the walkway where the casualties had fallen from. He pressed a paw to his heart, then pointed at Tasha’Vel and dragged a finger over his throat.

Another Ewok, an elder according to her necklace of smooth river rocks, nodded solemnly and raised her bow.

“Oh, come on!” yelled an exasperated Tasha’Vel.

“So the Mandalorian Ewok joins the horde.” Tasha’Vel’s eyes shifted, getting colder, murderous. “Then you have chosen poorly. Varactas, Vilruna, illuminate!” Two violet blades of light pierced the darkness, casting an eerie violet glow to the Twi’lek’s now more terrifying face as she mounted Varashi.

“I have obliterated armies larger than you all. Face my wrath. Woarrrrrghhh!!”

Calling on the memories of her slain friends, the Twi'lek's body surged with the Living Force around her, now seething, her eyes set ablaze with hatred and steeled. Varashi, unafraid, charged forward in complete sync with his master. The Twi’lek’s hands moved outward as sparks of bluish-white lightning crackled and hurtled outward, striking the nearest Ewok holding a bow; it coursed through him, frying him on the spot. She then hurtled both of her deadly lightsabers in a whirling, spinning wheel of destruction; they tore through the horde, slicing through fur and flesh, cutting down numerous Ewoks as she directed the blades with her skilled hands. The scent of copper filled the air as the annihilation of the Ewok horde continued. Tasha’Vel’s dangerous blades whirled in a circle, cutting more down as they tried to aim and attack. Just as a black-furred Ewok with white stripes readied to throw a spear at his master, Varashi leaped into the fray, grabbing him in its jaws, tearing into it with its razor-sharp beak and breaking the wooden spear. Chikma, seeing all the carnage, charged forward and threw his spear directly at the Twi’lek, giving a war cry, but watched in horror as she just smiled. Her hand closed into a fist as the spear stopped before it struck her, swerving and flying to the ground below.

“Not today, Mandalorian Ewok, you have pissed me off.”

SNAP

CRUNCH

Came the grossly sickening sound of bones being splintered as Varashi bit into the black-furred Ewok violently. He then shook the Ewok back and forth before casting it over the side of the wooden catwalk to their death. The blades now returned back to her; Tasha'Vel leaped off Varashi into the middle of the Ewok horde, striking and moving, clearing Ewoks with her two violet lightsabers as she unleashed hell upon them. Her body becoming a literal death machine, churning and dropping body after body of Ewoks around her. The air was littered with the smell of charred and sizzling Ewok flesh as she ripped through them. Death was all around the Mercenary and getting worse; he had to do something.

Aiming, he fired the wrist rocket at the Twi’lek, sending the anti-personnel rocket hurtling towards her. Smirking evilly, she snapped her fingers as she halted, glaring at the oncoming missile while it collided against a sheer barrier and exploded, causing it to shatter.

“That all you got, Mandalorian Ewok?” She charged and sliced downward with all her might against him as she battered Chikma’s armor with her blades, until the shield gave out. Swiftly, the Ewok angled himself, turned on the jetpack, and propelled forward, grabbing her tightly while he dove off the catwalk towards the ground below. As they plummeted, Tasha’Vel cackled insanely.

“So be it!”

Taking out his fiberchord whip, Chikma bound them both tightly together while pulling out his thermal detonator and hit the button, beginning the countdown.

“Oooh, you little-”

“Coatee-cha tu yub nub!”

“KABOOOOOOMMMMM!”

A six-meter detonation ring vaporized both Twi’lek and Mandalorian Ewok, and the surrounding foliage below as the Mercenary’s armor hit the ground; almost nothing was left save for Chikma’s helmet. The rest of the Ewoks surrounded the now-crying Varashi, taking turns stabbing the beast with their spears until the creature, bleeding from his wounds, fell at their feet. The handful left looked down and, in unison, cried out.

“YUB NUB, CHIKMA!”

The horde of Ewoks surged, their ululations echoing through the forest. Chikma reached over his shoulder to draw his spear, which had been carved from a redwood just a few miles away. It had barely cleared the sling when the shaft flew out of his grasp and away into the night. He scowled. Another reason to dislike the jetii.

Now rid of his visor, Chikma finally beheld his opponent. He could only note Tasha’Vel’s blue skin and tattooed lekku before his compatriots swarmed her. She flailed her body, flinging brave Ewoks this way and that as she managed to draw Vilruna from her belt and summon its blue blade.

“Oh, you want to do this?” the Twi’lek yelled, slashing at three Ewoks attempting to crawl up her legs in one flourish. The diminutive beings yowled for but a moment before they were sliced in half at the atomic level and fell to the wooden planks below in a furry pile of legs and torsos. “Let’s do this, then!”

It only took a few seconds for Chikma to pull the amethyst kukri from its sheath and join the fray with a charge. He ducked under an arcing swipe of Tasha’Vel’s lightsaber and popped up with the purple blade held high.

The two blades met for a heartbeat, but the collision proved enough to shatter the amethyst. A hundred tiny shards burst through the air like a swarm of angry insects, stinging Chikma’s cheeks and peppering Tasha’Vel’s exposed hands. Every Ewok within several feet yelped and clutched at their faces as the glittering spray buried itself into their skin.

The Twi’lek’s boot caught Chikma in the chest. His armor’s plasma shield absorbed most of the impact, though he did stumble backward. Then an unrelenting pressure began to close in around his throat as some invisible force lifted him off the ground. His eyes shot to Tasha’Vel, whose face sported an evil grin during the momentary reprieve. The Mandalorian kicked and clawed at his collar. The edges of his sight began to blur.

Then, suddenly, Chikma dropped to the ground. Not so much breathing as desperately grasping for air, he raised his head just in time to see Kazzik’s jaws latched into Tasha’s thigh. Coughing, he grabbed the fibercord whip from his belt as the Sadowan wiggled her leg in an attempt to fling his cousin off. With a flick of his wrist Chikma coiled the whip around her left forearm, then heaved with everything he had left. The quantum blade skewed wide as she dropped it, carving a furrow in the wooden planks.

Behind them, Varashi roared.

A dozen Ewoks had overtaken the varactyl. Armed with ropes and nets, they tried to subdue the creature as it bucked and snapped.

Perhaps due to the ridiculousness of the situation, perhaps out of concern for her companion, something snapped beneath Tasha’Vel’s already exasperated expression. “I will not,” she snarled, “be eaten by teddy bears!”

The air itself seemed to snap taut as she planted her feet and threw out a hand. Everything after happened in rapid succession in a way Chikma had never seen before, despite all his exposure to Force users. First Tasha’Vel telekinetically plucked an Ewok off Varashi’s back and dangled him in the air like a marionette. Then, as that Ewok squeaked in protest, violet bolts of lightning arced from her outstretched hand to his suspended form, illuminating him and singing his fur before he exploded into a gout of orange flame that rolled across the walkway until a solid chunk of the Ewok masses glowed like festival lanterns, burning alive.

Freed from his captors, Varashi snatched a charred Ewok in his jaws and bounded away.

Scorched fur drifted in the air like ash after a volcanic explosion. Tasha’Vel’s blast had put a dent in the horde’s numbers, but the walkways above were still thick with glinting eyes. More horns sounded in the distance, presumably calling other tribes to their aid. Having finally loosed Kazzik from her thigh, the Elder dropped her free hand to her belt. Varctas came out in a smooth draw. She snapped the blue blade to life, the whip still biting into her other forearm. Then she lunged at Chikma.

Chikma saw the blade coming his way, but he did not have enough time to evade the incoming blow. The plasma blade stabbed through his chestplate. His breathing became strained and laborious as the lightsaber pierced his body, but he didn’t fall. Instead he grabbed Tasha’Vel’s wrist and, summoning all his might, kicked.

The built-in boot blade snapped out from his toe with a sharp snick, driving up into the meat of her already bleeding thigh.

“Kazzik,” Chikma wheezed to his cousin in Ewokese, standing directly behind his opponent. “Spear.”

His cousin had already found a dropped spear much like the one Chikma had carved in his coming-of-age ritual. He clutched it firmly with both paws as he charged at Tasha’Vel, tears streaming down his face.

The point went in just under her ribs. She stiffened, mouth falling agape in disbelief.

“Yub nub,” Kazzik whispered as the remaining horde approached in a frenzy, stabbing her with their own spears and crude blades.

Meanwhile, Chikma slid to the blanks, gazing up at the canopy he’d so missed during his service to Venn-Voss Colonial Supply Solutions. As his vision once again faded to darkness, horns bellowed among the redwoods again in a lament to the Sky Warrior.
