Consul Report

Aloha and good evening.

I apologize for having this out later in the evening than expected, but it's been a busy day.

First things first. In The Shadows 2! If you haven't been in the Clan long enough to remember it, "In The Shadows" was a run-on done several years ago. It was originally started by then Gladius Quaestor Anshar Kahn Tarentae, now our esteemed Headmaster. It was to be a Gladius competition, but proved to be such an interesting run-on that I spoke with Anshar about opening it up to the whole Clan, which we did. It proved to be both highly successful as a run-on and competition, and highly enjoyable too. Now, we have a sequel. "In The Shadows 2" has been incited by Gladius Aedile Dranik, and promises to be something that everyone will enjoy. I encourage you to take an active part in it. If you're not confident in your writing skills, ask someone to work with you on it. We have a great many capable mentors and writers who can help you out. Check the run-on frequently; it's located on the message boards ( http://www.darkjedibrotherhood.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=4160) and has so far gotten off to a good start. Come join in on the fun.

Second, Rekio has started up a new message board that is Tarentum-specific (not associated with the general DB message boards), and will House things that will be available only to members of Tarentum. Yes, we will absolutely still be using our forum on the general DB boards, but we will also be using our own board for other things. I encourage everyone to go register for the new boards soon ( http://www.tarentum.org/2/index.php). If you're planning on taking part in the "In The Shadows 2" run-on (which you should be), there is some helpful information on the new boards about Draugr and Aptrgangr, posted by Oberst. You'll find that Oberst is a great help with many things, and I appreciate his work on the Beastiary. It will prove to be an amazing help for many things, including this run-on. So, go register for the new board.

Next, I want to put forth a project that I want to get started on, and will be asking for volunteers to assist with these things. The Clan Promotion Guidelines. As many of you know, these guidelines are good, but somewhat old. I'd like to get a group started on updating the guidelines, and enhancing them. I want the guidelines to continue past the rank of DJK, at least through to Warrior/Templar/Priest, if not one or two ranks beyond. The MAA, Kraval, has also talked about working on Equite promotion guidelines. Due to this, to make sure that our guidelines are close (but still specific to Tarentum and your needs and strengths), I have asked Kraval to take part in this group to work on the guideliens, and he has accepted that invite. So, what I need is volunteers to work on discussing, reworking, and enhancing the guidelines. If you're interested in helping out with this, please, email Oberst and myself. I would love to see as many people as possible take part in this, from as many ranks as possible. Every viewpoint is useful, especially from those who will make use of the guidelines. I want to make sure they are challenging, but still help you to feel as though you can always make progress towards the next rank/reward. So, please, get in touch with me if you're interested in helping with this.

You know, I've just totally gone blank. I had other things that I wanted to discuss or mention, but now I can't remember. I'll have to send out another email if/when I remember what else it was. But I did want to briefly mention one more thing on a personal level.

I believe that we are all inherently imperfect. I think that everyone makes mistakes, we all have weaknesses, and we should all strive to improve upon those weaknesses. I don't think anything, or anyone, is ever "perfect." I don't think it's even practical to aspire to perfection on a certain level. It is good to aspire to perfection and skill, it's good to hope to be as good as you can be and better, but be appreciative of what skills and fortune you do have while you work for more. Tarentum isn't "just a Clan" in the Brotherhood. Tarentum, for me, has always been a group of tight-knit friendships that grow stronger and deeper every day. We are a group of people who like each other, who have fun associating with one another, and also happen to like Star Wars. When we act as a unified, motivated group, we kick all ass. When I was Consul the first time around, during the highly-contested Fifth Great Jedi War, Taldryan barely edged us out of 1st place by less than 600 points, when scores numbers in the 20,000+ range. All things considered, 600 points behind when you're around 20,000 points isn't that great of a margin to win by. Our 2nd Place finish in that competition was nothing short of amazing work and effort by a lot of good people.

When we still had "Order Wars," House Tridens and then the Clan as a whole won the last two Sith Wars. We had stars like Rekio Corsair Tarentae, who had fantastic participation and placement records. If you want to know why Rekio is a Sith legend, toss him an email and ask him about the last two Sith Wars. I could just tell the stories here, but it's good to have young and upcoming members poke and prod him into telling those good stories.

The point to all of this is, when we are cohesive and motivated, nothing can stop us. When we are disinterested and unhappy, we stop ourselves. And much of that begins with me (or whoever is Consul). I made a commitment within the last few weeks to make a report every week not because I like doing reports, but because I want to work towards perfection. We may never attain it, but I want to work towards it. To that end, I need your help. I need you all to communicate with me, and help me out. If something is bothering you, email me. If you have questions, email me. Or, find me on IRC. I'm usually on daily (sometimes once every other day) under the nick Bloodfyre. If you can't find me, hit up Oberst. If you need help, let us know. If you hear something that bothers you, tell us what happened. If you need a hamburger (Sarin), I can't help you there. But I can recommend that you see the people at In-N-Out (if you have one). If you need a recipe for a good dinner to impress a certain someone, the man to talk to is Oberst. If you want to know how to dress to impress, again, Oberst is who you really need to become friends with. If you're having a hard time with Calculus, go talk to Oberst; he's a genius. Of course, that begs the question; what the hell am I doing here?

Hopefully, I'm at least making you laugh. But what I'd like to be here for is to help everyone make this place as fun as possible, and help you to enjoy being here. So, be a part of this place, and help me work on our friendship. I'd like to say I know all of you, but at the moment, I will say I look forward to knowing all of you. I haven't met everyone, but if you're willing to help me out with that, I will meet and become good friends with all of you.

And then you will feel comfortable saying, "Quit yer yapping." And I will be glad to.

And speaking of quitting with the yapping, I'll end this email here. Have a good week, everybody. And remember, be a part of things. Have some fun with this place.
