Consul Report

Aloha and good evening.

There's things happening on the horizon that everyone needs to know about. First and foremost, the alliance that will be happening between Arcona and Tarentum. This has actually been in the works now for a couple of weeks, as the notion has been tossed around between members of both Clans. At this point, the alliance is mostly finalized, with the sealing document (treaty) being written up as we speak. What will this mean? Well, it's mostly a fictional thing. On those terms, Arcona and Tarentum will officially be friends, have a mutual interest in assisting each other, and will not be pressed into opposing sides of any war. Realistically, it means that some of us have friends in Arcona, some do not. You don't have to suddenly make friends with everyone in Arcona, or change how you see things. But, I would suggest that there are good people in Arcona, people I consider friends, and you may discover that you have friends there, too, as soon as you meet them.

Secondly, Korras has been named Proconsul of Tarentum. Since the untimely removal of Oberst as Proconsul, I have elected not to name one. Basically, I had been considering the options, discussing it with Oberst (who always has been, and always will be someone I see as an adviser), and spoke with Korras about it today. Korras has accepted the call to serve this Clan, and I have no doubt that every facet of Tarentum benefits from him in this respect. Korras is an apt, accomplished leader, but more importantly, he's a good man who has a great attitude about this Club, and about this Clan in particular. If you need anything from him, he'll be as quick as he can to help you out. If you're looking for advice, he has an opinion and insight into things that you may not have. I have worked with Korras in the past in other positions, and look forward to what he will bring to the table in helping me make this Clan what we all want it to be.

Next, while I don't usually make it a happen to mention additions to the Clan, I feel compelled to mention three people who have returned most recently.

Jason Hunter has returned to Gladius, a House he served both as a member, and as Quaestor of, at one point in history. Jason has a good attitude about things, and is easy to get along with. Welcome back, Jason.

Rax Von-Klug was formerly in Tarentum some time ago before he was elected to serve as Seneschal of the Brotherhood. Rax is a good man, and an accomplished pilot, from what I know. Rax has an indirect tie to Tarentum, as well, having been formerly of Tau Squadron, the group (many years ago) that was actually responsible for founding House Tarentum, which has become this Clan today. Welcome back, Rax.

And speaking of founding Tarentum, one of our Clan's honored veterans has also returned. Erich von Reinthaler established himself as a premier pilot in Tau Squadron, as well as a dedicated member of the Infiltrator Wing some time ago in the Emperor's Hammer. He also had the notable position of being one of the original members of House Tarentum, and even helped to design Castle Tarentum. Von Reinthaler is a respected veteran in many circles, and, as far as I know, even keeps company with Captain Abbey Danger, herself. Members of Tarentum, I hope you join with me in welcoming back this veteran and good man, Adept Von Reinthaler. Hopefully Captain Danger comes with him. Heh.

Though it pains me to say it, I finally broke down and started reading a Star Wars novel. I know, for shame. A few days ago, I had a strange desire to pick up a few novels. I picked up the novels for each of the Prequel movies, as well as "Dark Lord: The Rise of Darth Vader." So far, I can say I only read a few chapters of "The Phantom Menace," and stopped reading it entirely. I'm not very happy with it as a book, and I doubt I will go back to reading it. I skipped over "Attack of the Clones," and went straight to "Revenge of the Sith." Surprisingly enough, I really like RotS. It's been a good book, easy to read, and has really brought a lot of depth to what you see in the movie. Two ideas about the book really stand out to me. 1) It discusses stuff like lightsaber forms, and even mentions strengths and such to those forms that isn't in our lightsaber guide. It has opened up an idea in me that I'd like to see brought about, wn updating of the lightsaber guide, adding in strengths and weaknesses, more info on the forms, and so on. I think the source info is available to do it, and ought to be done, since it'd be a good enhancement on the fictional level. 2) It actually has made me almost despise the Jedi Council/Order as a whole as it existed then. Personally, I've always been more of a fan of the bad guys; good guys generally annoy me. But in this case, there's stuff that goes on in the novel that you didn't see in the movie that just really adds to what you did see, and helps it make more sense. No, I still don't think it rationalizes "Darth Emo" instead of "Darth Vader," but stuff does make sense. In any event, if you're looking for a decent book, even if you despise Star Wars books as a rule (like I do), the Episode III novel is really pretty good.

There were things I wanted to have done this weekend that I didn't get around to doing. I won't make a detailed list, but I will say that, yes, I am behind on a few things. My brother got married yesterday, it was a nice ceremony and a good time, but kept me busy. It's been a busy last few weeks, but yesterday topped it off. Fortunately, he and his new bride are now off on their honeymoon, and everything that made this place plain loco the past little while is starting to settle down. Needless to say, those things I am behind on, I will be looking to catch up on this week. These things include promotions and medals (including grading the run-on to the moment and medals for that), returning contact with people I need to be in touch with, etc. So yeah, it's been busy. If there's something you've been waiting on me for, for the last day or two (or more), feel free to send me a reminder email. Sometimes I forget, or I fall behind, and I don't mind it when people toss me a quick reminder to say, "Hey, I sent you this, you need to get back on me when you have time."

I think I'll leave this one there. Have a good week, Tarentum.
