Voice Update #2: Help Wanted

update

A few quick things I wanted to touch on as we get ready for an exciting December.

Magistrate Position Open

Aiden Lee (now Rhylance) has stepped down from his position as Magistrate to focus on his duties as Consul of Taldryan. Being Consul is not an easy job, especially when you’re in the rebuilding phases and working with a talented new staff. Aiden is one of the hardest working members I’ve had the privilege of engaging with, and I can’t say enough about him as a member of the Voice staff team. I am confident that he will take his knowledge with him and share it with both the new and veteran members he is working within Clan Taldryan. I’m excited with everything he’s accomplished so far in such a short time and look forward to continuing to work with him on Clan Taldryan fictions and will still be retaining his services for side projects.

For his service, I’m happy to award Rhylance a Steel Cross.

Applications

With Aiden stepping down, we have an open position on the Voice Staff. Primary Responsibilities include the following:

  • Character Sheet approvals, remands, feedback, and development.
  • Voice Staff projects.
  • Policy discussions and implementation.
  • Proofreading services for the Voice and for Voice Staff documentation.

Applicants should:

  • Have a working knowledge or comprehension of the Character Sheet system and the various documentations used such as the Character Sheet Guide and the Character Sheet Approval Guidelines. Any magistrate selected will receive training on how we go about approving Character Sheets, but having a baseline understanding helps a lot.
  • >24 Hour turn around time on email.
  • Maintain presence and regular communication via Telegram, the Brotherhood's main communication platform. The Voice staff discusses a lot of things over our Telegram channel and allows us to quickly answer questions and help each other out to make sure we’re turning around Character Sheets for members as quickly and effectively as possible.
  • Confidence in proof reading both fiction and technical writing for the Voice (Wally can’t be trusted with possessive apostrophes).
  • Familiarity with the Wiki (helpful but not required).

All applications should be sent to [Log in to view e-mail addresses] by Sunday, December 4th.

Project Work

Not sure you’re qualified or able to serve a magistrate position, but still want to help or be involved? Apply anyway, or drop me a line separately stating your interest. I manage a lot of projects and like to include people from different units, backgrounds, and experiences. Ultimately, all the work we do in the Voice Staff is for the benefit of you, the members. If you want to be a contributor, I will do what I can to set you up with tasks as they come to me. There are no guarantees, but as a general rule of thumb, if I don’t know you’re interested I won’t know to reach out to you when something comes along I think would work.

Fiction Policy Update

Going forward, we have added some wording to the Voice Competition Approval Guidelines.

update

If there are any questions from competition organizers, let me know. For already running competitions, they can continue to run but will be monitored.

Character Sheet Approval Guidelines Update

I’ve updated the Character Sheet Approval Guidelines to better reflect the information featured in the Lightsaber and Martial Art forms guides respectively.

In short, members cannot have a Secondary Skill at a higher point value than their Primary Skill. This applies to Martial Arts Forms, and Lightsaber Form selection under the “Specialization” tab on the Character Sheet creation wizard.

Please handle auto-updating your character sheet responsibility.

Guest of the Matron: An ACC Event!

There is only one week left to sign up for the Guest of the Marton ACC event!. See Atra’s latest post here.

Please be mindful of the rules. They are listed in bullet points for clarity. Always check the preview before posting. Not only does this very easily check for formatting errors, it will also display your word count. Word caps (regardless of your opinion on them) are like every other rule in a competition. They are a parameter for you to work with, creatively. Look at it as a challenge, not a restriction, and you might end up enjoying it.

I’ll also remind everyone that both Google Docs and MSWord count words differently than the Brotherhood website. This was discovered (thanks, Slags) to be relating to the use of apostrophes and how they were counted as characters. What does this mean?

When competing in ACC events, always double check the preview button to check your word count via the website. This is the word count that judges will look at when grading.

That said, we’re learning a lot and testing some really cool things with this event. I really appreciate everyone's enthusiasm, patience, and willingness to take part. Keep it up as we head into the final week! Remember to sign up using the form here.

Get those apps in, we promise we won't be gentle!

Thanks for being awesome, Rhylance!

Hell yeah, Rhylance, do the things, do it all over your Clan!

Thanks you guys. This isn't the last you'll see of me in the Voice Staff. I SHALL RETURN!

Will you get us next time, Gadget?

Question about the new open prompt policy: will competitions in which members are given a choice of two or more specific prompts still be allowed?

No issues with those. This is more to stop "write about whatever you want and farm CIs"

Nice report! I'm sorry that I'm not a fiction guy or I'd apply to help you out. <3

Great report!
