Sepros

Sadow Temple

Dusk crept over Sepros in a slow, deliberate fade. As the light bled away, the air sharpened into a crisp chill that bit pleasantly at the skin. Though the days clung to their humidity this time of year, the planet’s turn always brought the cooler winds of night and with them, this quiet, prevailing cold. Outside the temple’s offices, DarkHawk watched as the table of Naga Sadow was offloaded from the transport, crews guiding the relic toward its new home with the reverence it demanded.

The mission to Rorak IV had been a success, at least by operational standards. Ashia Keibatsu had claimed Naga Sadow’s table in a legitimate high-stakes game, but Buldakka the Hutt would not let such a humiliation stand. The Clan had invited his vengeance.

DarkHawk welcomed the challenge, yet a thread of unease lingered. The Hutts were ruthlessly predictable in one regard, retaliation was inevitable. His mind churned through security contingencies faster than he could silence them.

A familiar voice boomed in his mind, cutting through the noise of his thoughts. “Do not dwell on what has not transpired.”

DarkHawk turned to find Lord Keibatsu, the Lion of Tarthos, standing beside his wife, Ashia. He bowed to the Grand Master, then inclined his head respectfully to Ashia.

“Ashia, your operation on Rorak IV was exemplary. The Clan owes you a debt of gratitude, and your selection to Blackguard is well deserved. Congratulations.”

She offered a confident nod. “Thank you Consul. Always a pleasure to support. Especially when it means besting a Hutt.”

“Hammer’s intel paid off,” DarkHawk continued. “I’m surprised he isn’t already here demanding his reward.”

Ashia smirked. “Give it a minute. He never misses an opportunity to collect.”

DarkHawk returned his attention to Lord Keibatsu. “Before we set the table in its permanent place, I’d like to review the chambers Master Stahoes discovered. I have a feeling they hold more than we’ve yet uncovered.”

Lord Keibatsu nodded. “As do I.”

Just then, Duke Keibatsu strode into the Consul’s office, his voice its usual low rumble. “You summoned me, Consul.”

“Kojiro, I have something that will suit your…particular talents. The Clan needs enhancements to our perimeter security. Head to the Rancor pit the situation will become clear once you arrive. I’ll join you shortly.”

Kojiro bowed and departed. Moments later, DarkHawk, Lord Keibatsu and Ashia descended into the temple’s lower levels, the ancient stone corridors swallowing sound as they moved. Deep within the labyrinth, Master Stahoes awaited them.

“I managed to get better scans,” Stahoes said, eyes bright with discovery. “I think you’ll be impressed.”

The holoprojection revealed a labyrinth of interconnected chambers, an untouched maze sealed for centuries. But one room in particular drew their focus, a fortified council chamber unmistakably crafted for Naga Sadow’s closest advisors. It responded only to telekinetic command, no doubt part of the Dark Lord’s obsession with secrecy.

With a single thought and wave of his hand, Master Stahoes opened the chamber. Ancient air hissed out as they stepped inside.

Meanwhile, at the Rancor pit, Duke Keibatsu descended into a partially constructed shelter. A commander and two ensigns guided him to a pair of reinforced corrals. Behind the thick glass, two adolescent Yozusks gnawed on massive bones, their predatory eyes gleaming beneath the low lights.

The commander handed Kojiro a datapad displaying the facility schematics. The Duke studied them, then immediately began outlining additional requirements, efficient, precise and uncompromising.

DarkHawk arrived as Kojiro handed the datapad back.

“Well?” the Consul asked. “What do you think of our newest additions?”

Kojiro’s expression, usually buried beneath the Keibatsu stoicism, betrayed the faintest flicker of awe. “Magnificent creatures,” he growled. “It is truly remarkable they survived this long.”

“Indeed. Acquiring them was… eventful. Their parents were less than accommodating. But here, they can thrive. And I would like you to train them. They’ll serve as wardens of the temple and protectors of Summit.”

Kojiro turned fully toward him. “It will be my honor, Consul.”

“You may begin whenever you wish. Your quarters are part of the renovations, use them as needed.”

The Duke lifted a hand toward the beasts, reaching through the Force. Both Yozusks froze, dropping their bones, and slowly turning to face him. A bond sparked into existence, silent, primal, absolute.

As DarkHawk made his way back toward the temple, Adept Tasha Vel’Versea and Creon Neverse intercepted him.

“Consul, you asked to meet?” Tasha asked.

“Indeed. Let me begin by congratulating you both on your selection to Blackguard. Most impressive work. Plus your work on Rorak IV was…outstanding. Now I have a special assignment for you both, assuming you don’t mind a few more credits to your accounts.”

Creon straightened. “Of course," he said enthusiastically. Tasha nodded, an eyebrow raised in interest. "Off the books?" She asked.

DarkHawk smiled.

“The Hutts will retaliate sooner rather than later. I need you two to be our eyes and ears between Rorak IV and the Clan. There are a few Hutt outposts between us and them. Buldakka is too loud and too proud to keep anything quiet for long, but your challenge will be staying unseen. Split up and gather intel discreetly. This is Clan business, subcontract as a last resort. Total black-ops recon, but if you have to, make full use of your more.....covert contacts. Rendezvous with the fleet with your findings and send everything back here fully-encrypted. That slug has eyes & ears everywhere as well. We cannot let him know we’re watching……Savvy?”

Creon nodded once. “Savvy indeed, sir.”

“We'll get started immediately and see what stirs,” Tasha replied.

Back inside the temple, DarkHawk reconvened with Lord Keibatsu, Ashia, and Master Stahoes.

“There’s much to study,” Master Stahoes reported. “The newly uncovered chambers raise as many questions as they answer. I’ve updated the schematics with today’s findings, there’s more to unravel.”

“Excellent,” DarkHawk replied.

Ashia lifted a datapad. “I found sporadic Nightsister glyphs down there. There may have been a connection between Naga Sadow and Dathomir. It could explain his affinity for alchemy and Sith mysticism.”

“Then by all means uncover it,” DarkHawk said. “Follow the thread as far as it goes.”

Ashia nodded.

DarkHawk turned to Lord Keibatsu. The Grand Master’s eyes were dark, black as the void, deep in contemplation.

“Thoughts, my lord?” DarkHawk asked.

Keibatsu exhaled slowly. “Many,” he replied.
