Fist Report # 42: The Final Report

My Final Update

Members of the Dark Brotherhood-

This report will be a little bittersweet for me. Many of you know what I do in the real world, and that job comes with a lot of responsibility. After looking at what my free time will look like come mid summer, I do not believe I will have the time to give the proper attention to the DB and its gaming community.

As such, I have informed Evant and Bubba of my intent to retire (again) a little earlier than I intended to. Real life will always win, and frankly I do not think it is fair for me to hold a position in some kind of absentee method. The Fist should be active, engaging with members, and a strong voice on the Dark Council.

My “third” term as Fist was short, but busy. The gaming system received a pretty substantial overhaul, policies were updated to reflect the current state of gaming in the club, and more avenues for people to participate and become part of the gaming community were opened.

  • Casual Gaming: Now you can play pretty much anything.
  • GMRG Leaderboard Rework: Clusters mean more, competition placements still matter.
  • GMRG Society Rework: More opportunity to rank up, society now in line with other DB societies
  • Pendants of Blood - Removed and no longer a gatekeeper medal.
  • Magistrate Rotation - Back to normal.
  • Discord Events - Thanks to Turel’s proposal, gaming now uses the “Events” function more than any other group in the club.
  • Halo: Infinite Added for full support
  • Apex: Legends new modes added

There’s plenty more that went on behind the scenes, but I think these are some of the most noteworthy things to happen to gaming over the past eight months.

I’m proud of everything this team has done, and I firmly believe gaming is in the best place it could be during a period of transition.

If you haven’t yet, read Evant’s post on what is expected of the individual who takes the helm of the Fist office.. This is an opportunity to give back to the club and shape policy and procedure for one of the DB’s most social activities. If you think you have what it takes, apply.

To those of you planning on applying, I will happily answer any questions you might have. Email, DM, whatever works for you.

Admin and Policy Reminders

If you haven’t joined the ranks of the GMRG, head on over to the GMRG-History course and pass the exam within the Shadow Academy. Get an opportunity to gain exclusive items, compete on the leaderboard to choose a Dark Council member to protect! (Get their accessory!)

All current Gaming and Fist Policies can be found on the Gaming Information page. I suggest that all members read this page as it has some great info. I will make sure this page stays updated to reflect all current office policies.

Final Words

This is a great club. I’ve enjoyed most of my eight years here. There have been some hiccups, but that’s life. What is important to me (always has been, always will be) is that the member experience be enjoyable and filled with opportunities. Like me or not, I think I’ve managed to provide both for the majority of people in this club. I am proud of everything the Fist office has accomplished since that day in 2016 when I was selected for my first term. I look forward to seeing what comes next, both for this office and for the club as a whole.

Remember always that on the other end of the Discord thread is a living, breathing person. Be excellent to each other, and when you find yourself getting irritated or angry, put down your phone or step away from your keyboard. You are never going to get everyone to like you, but there’s no need to make things worse for yourself by arguing and being an asshole on the internet.

I wish all of you the very best, and as always, keep on gaming!

-Dracpool, out.

You have left some big shoes to fill. Gaming is in the best spot it has been in a long time. Thank you Drac for everything you have done as Fist.

Very big shoes to fill.

You have done a wonderful job both times around as far as I see it and you have my thanks, Dracaryis. Cheers to you.

Sorry to see you go, each of your terms have had a great impact on the gaming community and the club as a whole.

Both times? Try three times. :P

Gonna miss you greatly Drac! You have been one hell of a FIST (yet again).

Drac is dead...long live Drac! Because I know he's going to rise again and I'm not saying goodbye I'm saying I'll see you soon in the next place you reinvent!

Sabbatical.

Congratulations and thank you Drac for all your hard work! I look forward to your inevitable 4th reign as Fist. ;)

Casual gaming was a class addition and one which will continue to be of massive benefit to the club well into your 7th term as Fist
