Gaming Update #43

Battlefront Beta

This is important enough for me to plug it in a Report I'm posting right above the Beta News. Read the Battlefront: Beta Test & Specs News Post. There's plenty of awesome information to be found in it including information on Cluster rewards for this Beta Weekend as well as a Competition that will be running during it.

Battlefront: PC as Club Designated Platform

As Pravus mentioned in his report earlier this month PC will be the official platform for the Dark Jedi Brotherhood. The two factors that weighed heavily on this decision were that historically PC games have fostered better communities followings, and that PC offers better longevity for the game.

As an example related to longevity, lets look at Jedi Academy which was released in 2003 and still has a decent amount of folks playing the game. Its useful to our club in that it is a PC game which nearly any computer can run now, and is very fairly priced so it doesn't put a financial burden on members. The same advantages could not be stated for a video game which was released in 2003 or 2004 on a console. The network to support game play may no longer work and outdated consoles may be the only ones able to run the game (depends on backwards compatibility or re-releases).

From this perspective PC is the only logical choice for our Club that takes into account long term growth.

As Pravus mentioned in his report all platforms will be supported, however there will be a Cluster advantage for PC Battlefield players. Right now we're working out if that will be a temporary (1-2 month) deal or a long term benefit.

In closing, I'm going to quote Pravus from his report on this topic, "We will support Battlefront across all platforms. Buy the game where you want, play where you want, and have fun where you want."

Star Wars Uprising: DJB Cartel Info and Dev Q&A

The Star Wars Uprising Mobile MMO game has been out and available for almost a month now. We had quite a flurry of members rush to try the game out, and I've seen several who felt it didn't live up to what they hoped for. Due to the way the Cartel system is set in the game, we can only maintain 40 members at one time. As there are additional Club Members who are active in the game and who would like to get into the main DJB Cartel (we had to form a second one to accommodate everyone) I'm going to be removing Cartel members who have not logged into the game in the last 14 days.

Now, for those of you who are still playing the game or even are still considering it and looking for a reason to pick it up again Aabs came across an interesting Dev Q&A regarding Uprising. This covers a wide range of questions from the long term viability of the game to if higher level materials will be able to be broken down into lower level materials. Its a pretty nice read, take a few minutes and gain some insight from the development team.

October Gaming Competitions

September & October Gorefest

Somehow I neglected a Gorefest in September. Here's the plan for the next month:

  • Friday 16Oct2015 - Sunday 18Oct2015 (September Gorefest)
  • Friday 30Oct2015 - Sunday 01Nov2015 (October Gorefest)

Pendants of Blood

Starting 22Mar2015 the Weekly PoB has been awarded for matches from Sunday to Friday. A second PoB will be awarded for Saturday matches, consider this a "Gaming Day". Time will be based on GMT just like competitions, so Friday at 7pm EST the "Gaming Day" will begin and conclude at 7pm EST Saturday. Following completion of the Gaming Nights project this may change back to a Sunday-Saturday one per week reward. The wiki has not been updated with this new schedule for that reason.

While I understand the concept and why we are using the PC platform as our "official" one, I do not see the reasoning behind DJBers playing on PC an edge in Clusters, in either long or short term. For instance, my laptop will play the game, barely, however my Desktop will now. However my PS4 will have no issue there. So I am forced to play on a stuttering laptop that is uncomfortable to play games on to begin with to stay ahead in GMRG rankings against those on PC when the game debuts? Trust me, I highly doubt you will find many people on other DJB supported games when this one hits the shelves.

From a price perspective for me to remain competitive, yes some people may laugh, but I like the competition the GMRG brings, I will have to buy a new CPU, Motherboard, and possibly RAM just to play. Again I see the reason for making PC the supported DJB platform. However discriminating against the platforms, and those who play on them, isnt a wise idea, and yes Im aware quite a few of yall will be playing on consoles as well.

DS - Thanks for the feedback. We'll look at running Competitions for PC and Console separately with different level Crescent rewards (higher for PC) as an alternative. No promises that we'll change the plans, but will definitely look at it.

Honestly I can see a reason for having a potential higher reward for PC. Console servers are run by that respective console's company. Microsoft and Sony have been fairly reliable in that aspect. PC is ran by EA/Origin, and they have a horrible tendency to underestimate the large player base. Im hoping they take this coming weekend as a grain of salt and double what to expect on release weekend next month. Otherwise yea, those on PC are going to have a horrible time. That and as far as I know most FPS players are on console, so yea potentially longer wait times for PCer's. Yes I know, Im killing my own argument here.

I dont know yall's justification for planning what your planning. However, my advice (if you so want to take it) is to implement it at a later date to ensure that the concept your aiming at is viable and wont hurt those of us stuck on console.

I sense favoritism towards PC "master race" people here. What a bunch of bullocks.

Also on a more serious level, what are the plans for Uprising in the DJB? Will we be able to get CE/CoF/PoB's out of it or will it stay as is for the moment and only be here for fun? As of now its hard to make any kind of comp out of it since its hard to tell when sector battles will be pushed, and with only a 24 hour prep period and 24 hour play time for the sector battles, it seems hard to make comps based on those battles and end results.

I have a D3 question, since no one online can answer it

In season mode, i have all chapters done except 4 and only one task left

Greater rift 10 level solo.

I can't figure it out. I ran through all and got to level 6, but there was no other levels after.that. just takes me back to town

My barbarian is lvl 70 +45 and even on normal mode, my ass is kicked

How do i get lvl 10 to finish all tasks

Uprising is still in the works. A mobile MMO with 2 minute long missions and no mission complete screen is tricky to work into our systems right. PoBs for level 40 characters in it might end up being a thing.

I don't play Seasons D3. Is it Greater Rift 10 solo or a Torment X Rift solo? You unlock more greater rifts by completing the highest one that you're able to pick. If you can't clear the content I suggest farming for better gear, that's the way of D3.
